So far this is what I'm looking at.

Template: Wizard has a cost of 7 refresh but with it being reset to 3 in your character creation thread this is fine.

High Concept: (Warden on the Front Lines) he works under Morgan and has seen combat in the war against the Red Court vampires.

Trouble: (The Horrors I've Seen) along with being a warden and having fought in this conflict he has seen some shit, some PTSD might bleed thru at times or the nightmares might come for him when he closes his eyes, either way it has both hardened him and left some of his humanity in shreds.

What shaped you?
Aspect: Iron Sharpens Iron

Little did he know how much his path would be affected by the military school he ended up in. The strict discipline and regimented lifestyle molded him.

What was your first story?
Aspect: Eyes Cold as Ice

When cadets start turning up dead during the Crucibal, Corbin puts his life on the line to pass his final test. Can he survive against the brutal assault of a crazed killer while learning his place within the White Council and passing the Crucibal?

If we want to design a mantle you can talk it over with me and as long as it is balanced with the ones in the book, I'll okay it.

From the Criminal mantle:
Heat [...] Clear one point of heat between sessions.
Lay Low: Once per session, you may attempt to ...
Inside Man: Once per session, you may declare ...
The Usual Suspects: Once per session, you may declare...

Those don't use fate points at all, they are all about 'Heat', the unique mechanic of the Criminal mantle. And since the only way to reduce Heat is tied to session, it is rather crucial for me :). But you are right, Hamasa, recovering fate points is also done 'between sessions'. And 'lasting' conditions are measured in sessions.

No, most stunts are just, basically, your powers from you mantle (think template, except more detailed and less customizable). Some are automatic; for instance, as a werecat, I have the Beast Whisperer stunt which states "You inherently understand and may communicate with any animal of the same type as your wereshape [etc.]". No conditions, no requirement, certainly no fate points, I understand and can communicate with cats. On the other hand, it's a rather weak power but hey, it's always on.

Others have a built-in limit to how often you can use them, separate from fate points. So as a criminal, I have "Heat" (as in, heat from the police). I have five boxes, and by crossing them (increasing my heat) I can fuel some of my criminal stunts, and get a +2 to some rolls, or a piece of equipment. Vampires have "Hungry", which fuels (some of) their powers.

Others yet are simply "once per session", and tend to be more powerful, and a very few (and very powerful) require the expenditure of a fate point.

Note: I have two mantles, criminal and wereshifter, because wereshifter is added to a pure mortal mantle. Most characters will have only one.

Play by ear. You can generally accomplish quite a bit in a 4-8 hour session. Granted, if you ran 4 hour sessions as opposed to 8, you would get to use your once per session ability MORE OFTEN in game.

So, on play by post I'll go either by milestones (We reached check point A, everyone's once per session refreshed along with their refresh!) Or when I feel like it (This feels right, everyone reset your refresh, once per session, etc).

Make sense?

I've mixed up 4 people so far. Whoops. Apologies but that has been corrected.

Side note, HOUSE RULE:

Any characters sharing a back story gets a free aspect (shared) to add to their list of other aspects.

Example. Felix and Hamasa share a back story and decide together aspect is: Cats Have 9 Lives

Due to their shared backstory, they each get this aspect and now have ties in game.

This is available for everyone and the above listed is "literally" just an example. They don't have this (but if they used my example that would be funny and cool)

You don't have to be chained to the hip per se. However, I would expect almost, but not quite, no infighting and a lot of teamwork. You could still have your own story arch, but more than likely you know that the two of you will help each other out (close to for "free") with each other's story archs.

But sharing a backstory means that if you wrote a full essay of your character, several paragraphs would be teamed up with this person. You don't have to write that much obviously.

Think a mid-20's Michael Carpenter with magic instead of Amoracchius.

Anyway, I'm looking for PCs to build history with. I'd like significant enough events to build an Aspect or two around, but I'm more than happy just to create familiarity and backstory. Alex (or Xander to some) is a contemporary of Father Forthill's at Saint Mary of the Angels, and a member of the White Council (despite the disapproval of many of their members).

Since time is being loosely tracked instead of precisely tracked, a character operating in one thread at any time is crucial. If you were in corbin's thread an hour before your thread and a fight broke out, it could severely affect whether one scene or the other could happen in the first place. Thereby starting a domino effect of actions that didnt take place.

Whichever scene takes the greater precedence will be the one to post in. Corbin thought he couldnt continue his thread without your information, so he moved to you. If you needed the warden's protection because your life was in danger, you would move to him. If there is ever confusion just ask me.

Over time im sure we as a geouo will naturally develop a good system that works but i think for now, you can be active in only 1 thread at a time unless you have minions.

Exactly right. 1 free, max of 2 additional since each takes 1 point of refresh and you can't go to 0.

The fae mantle words it especially oddly since only it directs you to pick the free stunt in the mantle description whereas the other mantles seem to assume you'll remember it from the character creation bit. I think the intent might have been to require all fae to spend a minimum of 1 refresh acquiring stunts as well as picking the free one, so that all fae start a bit under refresh max. But if that was the intent it's poorly phrased.

Correct. All core stunts essentially come with the mantle. Then you get to pick 1 additional stunt free. If you spend refresh you can get 1-2 more.

Soulgaze: When looking someone directly in the eye for more than a few
seconds, you peer into their soul and they likewise see into yours. The
exchange manifests itself as a cryptic vision. Make a Focus roll, opposed
by their Focus roll; the winner learns one concrete, useful piece of information about the other individual, or two things if the winner succeeds
with style. On a tie, each person learns something. These things can be

I think it's soulless creatures rather than non-mortal (and the description does specify you see their soul and they see yours). So trying to initiate one and failing tells you something too. I know it worked on Tomas so works on White Court and if memory serves Dresden avoided similar with vampires of the other courts and a dragon.

I did too. Roll. Corbin has a +2 total if he rolled correctly. Im adjusting the rule.

If you win by 3 or more. Both parties describe a scene such that it imitates the book. This can be a PL to each other if you wish.  The loser however Writes 2 pieces of information while the winner writes one.

Tie and anything else 1 each

As it is a contest of will, you are free to give as much information as you want but the minimum is the above.

Another fun fact. Every two pieces of truth about yourself you willingly give Above required, give yourself a fate point. On your sheet list

1 fate: soulgaze +2 info(person soulgazed)

Or something similar. This is true for the initiator and initiatee

Re: OOC:

Yes, I am. So I went looking on the Internet, and I found a forum post speaking of switching Third Eye and Soulgaze from Intellect to Focus between the backers' preview edition and the actual release. That might explain the discrepancy, although I couldn't find an actual errata or anything...

My version says:
Soulgaze: When looking someone directly in the eye for more than a few
seconds, you peer into their soul and they likewise see into yours. The
exchange manifests itself as a cryptic vision. Make a Focus roll, opposed
by their Focus roll; the winner learns one concrete, useful piece of information about the other individual, or two things if the winner succeeds

advantages with a free invoke at the GM’s discretion.

However, when I looked at the version under your link, on the credits page, mine has a few more playtesters, and four Interior Artists instead of two and a XX mark

Interior Artists:
Tyler Walpole,
Medusa Dollmaker,
Lenka Šimečková,
and Brett Barkley

So I'm guessing mine is the more recent ?

Adding your focus to the negative 1 would not give you 7. If you wanted to spend Fate you didn't state so. or is that 7 from something else? copy paste error?

Re: OOC:

Sheet is done, Mr. DM! If you could give me a look to make sure its in order.

Working on my full bio right now- for other players, I'm a Squire (non-unique lower-power Knight) for the Winter Court, my High Aspect is Mantle of the Snow Hare, my Trouble is Mab's Little Bitch Boy, and my other aspects are The Hare Hides in Thornbushes, Ready to Bolt, and Ears Always Up.

The Mantle of the snow hare gives Carlisle good danger sense and the ability to either evade or escape foes, but it also marks him as prey. He can't stand toe-to-toe with most of the things he's force to deal with. an even if he could, he wouldn't want to. His trouble is that Mab and Maeve have their hooks bone-deep in him, and tug him like a puppet whenever it amuses them. As much as he may resent it, he's duty bound to serve.

His other aspects represent how he navigates the hungry Winter Court as prey. The Hare Hides in Thornbushes is how the Mantle protects him- while the fae of the court know they could easily break him, they'd have to content with the Queens first. Being a favorite plaything of the royals has upsides as well. Similarly, Carlisle seeks to put himself in the good graces of the powerful, or place himself in protected positions, to use them as a shield against his enemies. Ready to Bolt is his hair-trigger danger sense. His weight is always forwards- Carlisle knows the second the shoe drops and is out the door before it hits the ground. Sometimes being so ready to flee isn't an advantage, however- plenty of things enjoy the hunt. Finally, Ears Always Up is his perception. Carlisles hearing has gotten supernaturally good, gaining him important advantages and leverage to both do his Lady's bidding and keep him safe. Carlisle doesn't let a peep pass him by unaware.

Is there anyone who still needs inter-PC background stories for some extra aspects who's looking for a Winter Court agent or a fast and reliable secure courier through the Windy City?

Using money as a weapon was a cool gimmick. I think I once made a combat specialist with 40 dice. How, I don't remember. Back-Story ties?

So, I'm finishing off character development.

Tamsyn Athanasiou is a psychologist/counselor with a private practice.  She specializes in grief and trauma counseling, critical-incident response and "cult deprogramming", but has a wide range of less dramatic-sounding services.    She's pretty heavily involved with the Paranet and has offered support for many of Chicago's supernaturals: grief counseling for the families touched by the murders in White Night for instance.  More recently she's been seeing several people dealing with addiction withdrawl issues for those suddenly without a supply of Red Court narcotics.

Those who know her well would know that she has a sort of "alter-ego" that's a lot more physical and... unpredictable.

Anybody care to create some connections with me?

Back-Story ties?

Ping me with an RTJ and it's all yours.

I was the assistant program manager at a sub acute hospital diversion program, a job that.

a).  Had 4x 10 hours shifts a week.
b). Worked noon to 10pm
c). The period from 5pm to 10pm was largely just sitting around in case something when wrong.

Most nights it didn't, so I had a lot of time on my hands to mess around.

I was also blessed with a hardcore group of dedicated players who built an amazing story with me, several of whom I chat with on Discord almost every day and am in multiple games with or run by them.

Scans IC thread: Is THAT a fate point?

Alex I can start you a thread but it was just going to be easier for you to just jump into Nutmegs, Like right now don't wait for people, as you are one of the liaison's to initiate the duel between Marcone and Aspenwhite. Part of your background. NEVER just wait for someone when interacting with the GM. Me. But do wait when interacting with the player.

Like white wolf sandbox, I'm going to cater to the fast and the furious, I mean people posting regularly. I'm not going to forget anyone by any means, but I'm not going to slow you down.

Also, to Corbin's point, if you want to jump into any thread, PM me first and we'll work your angle to go there.

Tamsyn Athanasiou:

Hello Tamsyn! My character Eve is also a newcomer in this game. I think it would make 100% sense for our characters to be connected. At least regarding Tamsyn's line of job, but we can figure out if there is something more in it. I will try to get PM in at some point today or tomorrow, though you can of course PM first if you have a lot of free time in your hands. I am still in the process of codifying the character to the site (most of the actual mechanical creation is ready), which will take a while.

Hello everyone. Yes I sleep during the North American day time. I'm more akin to being in line with Japan as far as my sleeping habits.

I generally wake up about 8 PM CT or 10 am in Japan. Hahaha.

I'll read the scene. As most have noticed I'm concentrating more on the story and less on the rules (I don't know them the way I know pathfinder and white wolf). I may very well make a mistake or two feel free to let me know when that happens.

EDIT: Corbin, Hamasa, Nora, and Eve...I'll post after your exchange is finished. I'm guessing one of you is going to either open a Way, get the group back through the trapdoor, or so on.

My assumption was that the presence was in the hallway past the trapdoor, even if it spoke to the characters in the room where the trapdoor is. In my minds eye I assumed Eve would arrive to the room they would back off to.

Anyway, the portal is still open to an icy cave somewhere in Nevernever, should Corbyn and the others be willing to go through. I would say that the portal remains open a little while still (initially meant for Eve to have a chance to get the hell out, if this was a trap), but any delay after that would force Eve to take action to keep it open. Unless GM rules it otherwise of course.

Erik, edit your post. Drakul or Dracula Tepish isnt a vampire. He is a creature of some kind not classified. His son, Vlad the Impaler, became a black court vampire as part of his teenage rebellion against Dracula Tepish. Per Blackstaff McCoy.

That doesn't change that Drakul is indeed Black Court Royalry. If we are going with him being the original, that is. Any of his direct descendants would be.

Since you stated he is the original, Drakul Vlad Tepesh 2. As nobody knows the first one and he isn't relevant. Unless you want him to be.

Wiki is right. You could say, he gave rise to the black court vampires. THat wouldn't technically be a lie. Its possible. But he himself is not.

I have played a ton of Turn Based Tactics and RPG games. I played FF7 as a kid and beat it like 3-4 times. As well as spent insane time on chocobo breeding/racing. I loved that game. Good story line too. However, today I've played a ton of unforgiving real time combat games such as, but not limited to, Dark Souls, Demons Souls, Nioh, Sekiro, etc. Playing the FF7 demo felt really nice. Seems like same/similar engine to FF15 and man the characters look good. I'm really excited about it.

Re: Back-Story ties?

It was quite a beautiful remake, I have to admit. I have played some Bloodborne, Nioh etc. I have loved a few jRPG games, though I admit having never played through FF7. I loved Breath of Fire 3 and 4 though. Chrono Trigger was beautiful as well.

The problem with the FF7 remake was the combination or real time hacking and having to switch characters all the time to ensure optimal output. I have to admit I did not peruse, if and how can commands and objectives be given to AIs. I like to hack and spell-sling my way to victory, but I do not want to do it with 3 characters simultaneously.

There was a more classic way of giving commands, have to try that too.

Regarding the current Nora scene: do you have some set difficulty in mind for our endeavor, or do we just RP it through?

Re: Back-Story ties?

Before posting more I'd like to hear other opinions. It is about the soulgaze. Should it be done via private messages, or in an open thread. On the other hand, it is something only Corbin would see and feel. An important moment between two characters. On the other it is usually an interesting read, enjoyable to all and this is not a PvP game where some 12 year-old would try to metagame the hell out of it.

Corbin, should we do this in completely private message, or as a private line inside the post to streamline the info to one place? I do not really enjoy the orange color of the private line as it limits the form, but it would be easy to find in its proper place.

EDIT: Have the soulgaze post about ready, just need the place to put it into  =D.

Its from the book series The Sword of Truth. Which was really good until about 6 and then I started to lose interest.

That might be why you're getting crappy D2 groups :)

I've found, in general, that the XBOX online community is a lot more toxic than the PS4 one. Though that probably comes from there generally being a lot more of them in general. If I were more into the online multiplayer thing, I'd probably get one.

Re: Back-Story ties?

So, I didn't post last night. Apologies. Hopefully it's slower tonight at work. You would think it would be with everything happening but it actually gives increased workload due to more strain on all networks. More people are using it all at once vs everyone going about their day and using it at different times. This is causing high utilization of bandwidth that the systems weren't designed to support. But of course nobody wants to spend an extra billion on equipment they don't need for only 3-4 months ish (or longer depending). Because once everything stabilized companies would have a billion in gear they don't need nor would they get what they paid for it back.

Anyway, that was an over explanation on, "I'll try to post tonight."
