Hello everyone!

I will be playing Hamasa, a shadow clinging information broker of dubious and unknown background.

I'm putting up some information for NPCs that anyone could run into. One person is reading the series for the first time, CONGRATULATIONS, but I can't put up information without spoilers. Sorry.

No crossover aspect in the Accelerated ruleset :)

Hello, I am Felix Mac a'Bhiataich, a totally unremarkable university professor (need to check up on the actual universities of Chicago). And whatever else you think I did it wasn't me and I have an alibi !

Hello all.  Big fan of the Dresden Files and actual Illinois native here.  Don't know too much about Chicago itself, but I know a lot about the suburbs around it.

Nora Murdock used to be a Red Court Infected.  But thanks to a certain meddling wizard, she...isn't anymore.  She's actually a little put out by this--it was nice being a superhero.

How do all. Looking forwards to the game.
Best of luck to person being a first timer with the series.

Marcus' from a family with a history of osteomancy, though luckily they've by now been around long enough that the Council's records have them listed as "below council level capabilities, not in fact necromancy." He's been in the US building up some experience in various medical institutions to aid with his orthopaedic work and Chicago's next on the list. At as it turns out one of the worst times to visit.

Hello! I'll be playing Iris, a spoiled socialite with no business having anything to do with the supernatural at all.

I'm also the newbie to the series, so wish me luck! I'm most of the way through the first book. I'm not at all worried about spoilers so don't worry about it either. If you mention something you think I won't know, feel free to private line me a link or a quick explanation. Of course, if Iris doesn't know about whatever it is either, then it all lines up nicely!

Have you thought about how you will handle the 'once per session' stuff, as there is rather quite a bit of stunts that are limited that way ?

Can you not spend Fate points to invoke it? I thought that meant you just got a freebie?

From the Criminal mantle:
Heat [...] Clear one point of heat between sessions.
Lay Low: Once per session, you may attempt to ...
Inside Man: Once per session, you may declare ...
The Usual Suspects: Once per session, you may declare...

Those don't use fate points at all, they are all about 'Heat', the unique mechanic of the Criminal mantle. And since the only way to reduce Heat is tied to session, it is rather crucial for me :). But you are right, Hamasa, recovering fate points is also done 'between sessions'. And 'lasting' conditions are measured in sessions.

But if fate points let you invoke aspects, shouldn't they also let you invoke stunts?  I'm new to Accelerated so I honestly don't know.

OOC:

No, most stunts are just, basically, your powers from you mantle (think template, except more detailed and less customizable). Some are automatic; for instance, as a werecat, I have the Beast Whisperer stunt which states "You inherently understand and may communicate with any animal of the same type as your wereshape [etc.]". No conditions, no requirement, certainly no fate points, I understand and can communicate with cats. On the other hand, it's a rather weak power but hey, it's always on.

Others have a built-in limit to how often you can use them, separate from fate points. So as a criminal, I have "Heat" (as in, heat from the police). I have five boxes, and by crossing them (increasing my heat) I can fuel some of my criminal stunts, and get a +2 to some rolls, or a piece of equipment. Vampires have "Hungry", which fuels (some of) their powers.

Others yet are simply "once per session", and tend to be more powerful, and a very few (and very powerful) require the expenditure of a fate point.

Note: I have two mantles, criminal and wereshifter, because wereshifter is added to a pure mortal mantle. Most characters will have only one.

Play by ear. You can generally accomplish quite a bit in a 4-8 hour session. Granted, if you ran 4 hour sessions as opposed to 8, you would get to use your once per session ability MORE OFTEN in game.

So, on play by post I'll go either by milestones (We reached check point A, everyone's once per session refreshed along with their refresh!) Or when I feel like it (This feels right, everyone reset your refresh, once per session, etc).

Make sense?

Re: OOC:

If you made a character and it is done, I'll go through it tonight and IMMEDIATELY open a thread for you to play in once I'm done.

As I wanted this game to be large anyway (so you all can run or join your own factions if I get enough players and run this city) you all don't have to be a a whole team.  You can link up with one or two others, or all of you for a big job, and move about the city.

Can you have more than one mantle?  I thought we just started with one and added stuff with whatever XP-alike this system uses.

Sorry, new to this system too.  Already like it more than Base Dresden RPG though.

Like in my case, werecreature explicitly says to take one of the 'pure mortal' mantles (I chose criminal) and then add the werecreature one. Changeling works the same way.

Re: OOC:

I've mixed up 4 people so far. Whoops. Apologies but that has been corrected.

Side note, HOUSE RULE:

Any characters sharing a back story gets a free aspect (shared) to add to their list of other aspects.

Example. Felix and Hamasa share a back story and decide together aspect is: Cats Have 9 Lives

Due to their shared backstory, they each get this aspect and now have ties in game.

This is available for everyone and the above listed is "literally" just an example. They don't have this (but if they used my example that would be funny and cool)

Re: OOC:

when you say "sharing a backstory" do you mean "we are a duo practically chained at the hip" or "we shared one very harrowing and meaningful adventure a'la the base rules"?

Because if it's the later, Nora could know people with the following:
-a tendency to hunt vampires
-church backing
-anyone from Boston or the East Coast
-strong connections to the Paranet
