I've always wanted to serve on a jury, but not for something brutal. Well the one time in my life that I got called, it was for a murder trial, with three Hell's Angels as the defendants! Luckily I was excused.

My dad got sit on an arson case; and my wife had a case of a nursing aide defrauding her elderly, wealthy employer using her womanly wiles!

Either of those would be fine with me.

They cancelled the jury duty but it was still the week from hell. Today, I cancelled everything and am focused on that now-brewing third cup of coffee. I still have quite a bit to do to wrap up the week. I should be more available rolling into next week.

It's the forth time I've been called for jury duty, I have never been seated on a jury during those times. I don't really mind, though it is a disruptive process, usually not much notice and your employer always seems to give you a hard time about it. All in all, don't mind serving.

At least you didn't get seated and sequestered for some trial-of-the-century!

I was seated once as an alternate (which meant I got to leave after closing arguments).  Had I been on the jury I would have voted not guilty--the guy was accused of a number of drug crimes, but the problem was that the prosecution admirably connected the drug deals to the downstairs flat, but the defendant lived in the upstairs flat, and the prosecution completely failed to connect the defendant to the downstairs flat (oops!).  I mean, he did have personal use level drugs in his own place, but he was accused of being the dealer.

Brumrok is trying to find out what year it is without coming right out and saying that, asking that might have these folks wondering if they've been rescued by lunatics! :-)

Might not be so bad, before the Gregorian calendar, the year might be dozens, hundreds of different numbers depending on the area, culture or religion one found oneself immersed in. In other words, this might not be as uncommon a question as our modern attitudes would insist.

That's a good point, but hope not.  If that's the case, they could tell me what year it is and I still won't know what year it is!!

Especially when there's more of a tendency to refer to dates as "in the x year of King Y"--might make it difficult to pin down.

On the other hand, those of you who have history-related NWPs may be able to get more insight.  I'll have an IC response when I take lunch in a little over an hour from now.

A point I've often made, while I normally try to use a more light-hearted setting, true medieval lords could be horrific. Blindings with hot irons and cutting out of tongues is definitely not my thing. Glad the DM uses similar settings.

There's a reason for the saying "go medieval" meaning what it does.  Not the sort of thing that I want to spend my spare time on.

Classic time travel trope!

I had an elaborate plan to ask Morris about the king and indirectly the year.  Should I go forward with it?

Fun fact! "Terminator" was based on actual events. Declassified last year.

the above is complete b.s. but it's fun to imagine. Guess I'm ready to take on a sci-fi game.

P.S. Risa, I wasn't about to touch that one, trying to stay on the DM's good side.

Go ahead if you want.  Without the history based proficiency, you could make a penalized check, to see if in your misspent youth your character had ever paid attention to such references as the Goblin Wars.

I decided against the elaborate plan.  I might use the trick later on someone else.
