Re: OOC Discussions

How thick is the web coverage in this cave?

Re: OOC Discussions

It's relatively light where you are and can see, but there are glints of reflected light further away that indicates it gets thicker.

And, just so I'm clear, there are no webs on the floor that you can see...they're only along the natural walls and ceiling.

(Bear in mind you have about 4 yards of vision ahead of you with the witchlight.)

And, spider's webs (not those magically created by mages) aren't flammable, but do melt away under direct heat. A torch will do, but will take a while. The witchlight, alas, is not fire (although it looks like a flame...well, more like an acetylene torch that hasn't been turned in).  A fire-based spell will also do the trick, and melt away whatever the spell effect touches.

Re: OOC Discussions

A torch gives you a six yard radius, and I didn't want the mage's light to be more powerful than that (since it's meant to be an incidental spell); hence, a four yard radius.

Re: OOC Discussions

Okay, gents, how do you want to proceed? We have one torch in the brother's hands that will work to melt the webbing as you go; however, that will be slow going if you plan on reducing all the webbing along the way.

Mikhail using Arcane Lance would blast away bits of web, but it would also be loud, and only cover a half-again larger area than the torch itself. (And Arcane Blast costs mana to use.)

Re: OOC Discussions

would brother loran have any type of oil on him for mixing herbs? just wondering if he were to take a mouth full and spray it over the webbing then light it it might burn more away than the torch alone

Arcane Lance could do the trick and does not cost mana.

Re: OOC Discussions

Okay, I hope all you folks have had a good holiday; now that we're getting back into routine, I'll move forward.

Going with the assumption that you gents continue moving forward through the caves, burning or blasting away webbing that is doing more than just lining/connecting the surface of the rocks (and spots that might look like a next/lair).

In the updated Map 0, I've added the torch and witchlight radii. These are the area of brightest light, and you can see somewhat past that, although it's dim and difficult to discern detail.

We'll give Loran to the end of the day today to post his initiative roll, and then I'll roll in his stead and get the first round of combat going.

Hmm, I was assuming we did not really see it in the first place, you know, not natural but magical darkness?

Sorry for the confusion. Not magical; it's just dark, and spiders are good at hiding. :)

Okay, Loran, bring on the light please :D
I.e. Advance sufficiently, about next to Fost's current location should do the trick

Re: OOC Discussions

Sorry for the delay on my part. Had a hectic return to work (we started hybrid online/in class instruction, so I've been running around campus all day long since Tuesday).

The map is on my personal laptop, so I'll update it tonight or tomorrow. For now, Fost and the spider are adjacent to each other, Loran is about 4 yards off to the left side (and back a bit), and Richard and Mikhail are positioned so they were able to the shoot the spider in Round 1.

Re: OOC Discussions

I realized too late, that Stand Firm would actually not work against Mikhail's Mind Blast. Not versus being knocked prone anyway.

So can one delay a Minor Action, i.e. hold back a move in anticipation of a knock-down in order to stand up right after the event?
I guess not.

Re: OOC Discussions

First, there is enough space behind the spider that Mikhail can aim his Mind Blast to affect the foe and not Fost.

Second, there is nothing in the rules allowing you to delay part of your action until later in the round. That said, I think it's reasonable, if you desire, to voluntarily lower your initiative score for the remainder of the combat, but that doesn't help Fost here (and isn't what you're looking to do).

(That said, if the spider survives long enough to get off an attack, Fost making himself difficult to knock down or move isn't unreasonable.)

Do they have any marking at all on their gear, and how do they react to the witchlight from my staff?

Re: OOC Discussions

Actually I believe Richard is the smooth talker and though I had a couple of nice dice rolls in the past it's bothing reliable.

Fost can probably handle the warrior (though he himself had never been a soldier) but those other two... seem to be rather aggressive

Re: OOC Discussions

Good conversation on Fost's part, by the way. I'll respond in the game thread later.

They have no markings on their armor and no banners that could identify them; the warrior's shield is painted black. Mikhail knows from his knowledge of heraldry that this is sometimes done in Orlais by knights who are masking their allegiance (especially in a tournament), in Fereldan and the Marches to show that a warrior has no allegiances (uncommon, except when neutrality is important), and (rarely) as a punishment to a warrior who loses his personal crest in disgrace (it's rare because the shield is usually broken up in such ceremonies, and the sword bent).

Of course, a warrior may just paint it black for personal reasons, too.

Re: OOC Discussions

Well, all my games are currently rather inactive so my attention is mostly here ^^.

Still... it's been ~80h since we initiated talking to these fellows. Plenty of time to raise that particular question.
And any of you you could well talk to the other two while I bandy words with the huge warrior [shrug]

Whatever. I will wait some more time before I react to any GM Post from now on... except in combat, of course.

Apologies for my attention grabbing

No worries there Fost.

There are times where I'm not always able to respond that quickly.
