Re: OOC Discussions

Option two seems more reasonable yes. Allows us to poke our noses around a little bit while Andra can catch a breather.

Folks, sorry for the delays. I ended up with a minor injury, and needed some time to heal. I'm back to things and I'll get a post out by the end of the day.

Re: OOC Discussions

I'm glad you're feeling better. Now we just have to make a decision...

BTW I'm fond of map making and I'm always afraid I make blunders like placing lakes in the wrong place or weird mountain ranges.

Luckily I usually make fantasy maps and I can just say "A wizard/god did it"

Re: OOC Discussions

I tend to try to follow general geographic rules (I still use the old 2nd Ed. D&D World Builders Guidebook as a guide on that) on my campaign maps, and leave it at that, unless there's a plot reason to place an unnatural feature within it.

Also, for clarification, Old Jonathan is at least a few years dead; his sons work the land, but none are seen as his "sole heir," so to speak, and the locals just continue to refer to the farm as his.

Re: OOC Discussions

Agreed for the map, I think they just kind of make these maps mostly at random or following some vague guidelines they are given and then try to explain the stuff afterwards.

Re: OOC Discussions

Just a quick reminder that you folks know that Old Jonathan has been dead for some time.

And, in a land where mages are feared and their power and danger are often outlandishly embellished (especially among the peasant class), walking about in robes (that are clearly not of the Chantry) and carrying a staff is enough display of power to consider one "armed." ;) Of course, Tyrus the Laetan could also think the way he does, because his travelling robes aren't fancy enough and his staff isn't ornate enough to be considered one of the upper classes back home. :)

Exactly, I'm looking forward to see how you would deal with that. Though robes (in my opinion) should be failrly common. At least in the city and upper circles of society. Not sure how you deal with them. Maybe I'll have to buy some of these barbaric inventions called "PANTS"

Folks, I had a rotten roll, remember.
Thus I doubt that they will answer this time... or Fost at all.
We need a new perspective/angle/approach.
Please do join in.
Much obliged.

Is that metagaming...? Anyway, sure I can chip in, nice way push me forward actually. Though you might not like how excited Tyrus is about magic...
I was hoping not to go into magic to be honest, the common farmer is likely to be more afraid than helpful.

I don't think so. Essentially quite some time has passed without Fost's question having been answered. Even with low Per and no focus on empathy or intuition or whatever it is called in DA you ought to have noticed.
The nudge itself and the reasoning is meta.

Re: OOC Discussions

Great post, Tyrus. Made a Communication (Performance) roll on your behalf, and, on the success, I added the Dragon Die as a bonus to a new Communications (Investigate) roll on Fost's behalf. The men have been convinced to be cooperative.

And, no, that's not metagaming. Sometimes, we only have the rolls to use as part of our "collective understanding" of the situation...with a roll like that, it was pretty clear Lornan was going to want to be the one to get information, rather than give it, and there's nothing wrong with seeing that result and trying something different.

Re: OOC Discussions

Hum, was wondering, what would be the adequate roll to tell if those farmers sell their produce in town?

Re: OOC Discussions

That's a good question. The core rules show no focus under Cunning to reflect local knowledge, nor do they list a Farming focus under any attribute (although you could say it's covered under the optional trade focuses rule on p.58). Given that this is about whether Erin knows if these Tanners folk sell at market in Lothering, we'll call this a Challenging (TN13) Cunning test.

Failure means Erin doesn't know the name, let alone the faces, so she has no way of knowing if they do or not. Success means she knows the name well enough to know whether or not they come to market.

Just as a reminder as you roll, I wrote this about Dainen's knowledge of those farmsteads: "Dainen says the folks who live there are “reclusive” and certainly don’t travel east for supplies. He can’t recall meeting anyone from there in his lifetime, although he’s pretty sure those farms have been occupied for as long as he can remember." (Emphasis added.)

Are we talking about those 3 msles or those at the farms further away?

Re: OOC Discussions

I interpreted it as those at the farms further away. The ones that the Lornan says Garreth is visiting.

Erin, if I'm wrong and you're asking about Lornan, Thelric, and Garreth, the TN will be 7 instead.

Re: OOC Discussions

Yeah I was talking about those farms we questioning them about. I figured if they sell their stuff somewhere, the nearest town may be the most likely place to do so. Coincidentally enough Erin works at the watch there so it is plausible that if they do she would have seen them. Or that was my reasoning anyway. I'll roll here, for both while I am at it I guess.

12:48, Today: Erin rolled 9 using 3d6+1 with the AGE System with rolls of {1}, 5, 2.  CUN TN13.
12:48, Today: Erin rolled 13 using 3d6+1 with the AGE System with rolls of {1}, 6, 5.  CUN TN7.

Aw bless, if only I could flip those rolls! If nothing else I will know more of our hosts!

Re: OOC Discussions

Erin has never heard of anyone going by the Tanner surname before - well, except once, and he was an exceptionally handsome tower of a man who said he was traveling west from Denerim about a year or two ago...that is, before he swindled Barlin and a half-dozen other villagers out of about 200 silver and disappeared.

Erin more knows of the sons of Old Jonathan than she knows them. Sure, she's seen them in the village from time-to-time. She remembers when Old Jonathan died about a decade ago; particularly, she remembers her father and uncle were saying the old man simply expired while he was pushing his plow. She believes he was about 25 years older than her father, but Garreth, Thelric, and Lornan are all a little younger than Papa Wynn (and really only about 10-15 years older than Erin herself).

At any rate, the brothers mostly keep to themselves and avoid the village for reasons that are their own, though the ever-churning rumor mill states it's because their father's "mean-spirited temper" ruined the chance of any them getting a decent wife near Lothering.
