Re: Story 102. The ArlÂ’s Ward
OOC: Heh, well, the result is a tie…the Dragon Die is a tie…I’ll give Loran the win, based on his higher modifier.
Evil GM, for the NPC Hawker, rolled 11 using 3d6+1 (3 stunt points) with the AGE System (({3}, 4, 3)).
“We’re not herbalists,” Hawker says quietly. “That was Dandy’s specialty.
“But, you’ve made your point. She wouldn’t want this. She was a healer, like you seem to be, brother.”
Higler’s head hangs in shame, sadness overtaking his anger. Chapman, for his part, simply shrugs and slips his mace back into its loop on his belt. Pointe, however, watches the proceedings in shock, her mouth agape, not bothering to hide her utter disappointment; it seems she, of all the group, was really looking forward to bashing some heads. With a huff, she, too, returns her weapon to its place and just about stomps all the way back to the guards’ pavilion.
Hawker turns to the merchant. “Pedlar, I swear in front of this holy brother that you will come to no harm tonight,” he says. “You will pay all of us twice our agreed wages for the entire trip, and you will return the potions and what other items of our sister’s that remain in your possession.”
“I suggest you continue across the Frostbacks after you reach Redcliffe,” Higler adds, though there’s little anger left in his words. “Because, if I ever see you again, it will be your last day above ground.”
The elder Pedlar gulps in genuine fear, but nods his understanding. “Of - of course.”
Father and daughter return to their tent. A few moments later, he returns holding the case of potions, with two hefty bags of coin on top of it, and offers it to Hawker. She follows shortly after, carrying what appears to be a small jewelry case. She opens it to display a brilliant ruby pendant hanging from a glittering white gold necklace.
“My father gave this to me when he reached Lothering on that trip. I don’t know if it was your sister’s or not,” she says. Higler nods his confirmation and Cassie offers it to them.
Hawker closes the box and presses it into her hands. “Keep it; its purpose was lost when Dandy died. Wear it in her memory, and as a reminder to be a better person than your father,” he says.
Cassie nods. “Thank you for your kindness. I’m so very sorry for your loss.”
“Thank you, mistress.”
The dwarf tosses a coin bag to Chapman and hands the case and other bag to his brother. Turning to Loran, Fost, and Mikhail, Hawker announces, “To show our good faith, we’ll pack and return to Lothering immediately. Prevents folks from having to keep an eye on each other. I expect we'll stay there for a couple days before making for Denerim.”
OOC: I'll pause here to allow folks to respond.
