Its a full list of Rune spells and Spirit magic spells.

In the PDF that I see (on my mac) and at lest one other BasicRoleplying forum user sees, the Runes for the spells com out wrong. e.g what should be earth shows as harmony, what should be magic shows as Dark earth, what should be fire/sky shows as Moon. Another Basic roleplaying user sees the correct Runes though, so I wonder if it is OS dependent in some was in the PDF

It's not a font-install thing the characters I see in the PDF are not part of any font that I have installed.

Apparently it looks OK in some PDF viewer applications (Acrobat, Good Reader) but not others (Skim, PDFExpert, Preview, iBooks, Chrome)

Interesting.  I figured it would be related to font, or at least they have linked the images to certain characters...?

Anyway, I hope they fix the issue (and any typos etc) before the hardcopies are printed  :)

The PDF format is incredible diverse and rather complicated, the definition document is a tomb in itself (I used to work for a company that produced document management and produced a tool to reverse engineer PDFs and add in a text layer from OCR, or swap images for higher compression version).

I suspect that the rune font is embedded within the PDF, if it was added as a font, or as images. Either way, the PDF spec allows the use of pointers to characters/images, rather than repeating them in location (saves on size) and what you see is in fact normally an interpretation of a load of data, i.e. only in very simple PDFs is a character/image actually there in the place on the page that you see it, rather the reader is displaying it there after interpreting everything.

My guess is that either the PDF isn't quite to spec, or the readers are not quite interpreting the spec properly.

Create bonfire looks like you use a Moon rune in preview (which is my favored, less clunky application) but a fire/sky rune in acrobat, which makes more sense.
