PvP Guide

Intended to provide clarification for situations that may come up in PvP.

From the official game rules:
Rolling existing stress:
- You can add one of an opposing player's existing stress dice and one of their complication dice to any action/reaction pool against them, provided it matches the stress/complication type already/currently being inflicted.

Using Multiple SFX:
- You can use more than one SFX in any action/reaction, so long as nothing in the SFX's description explicitly prevents it.

- You can also add your own stress die to a dice pool by spending 1 PP, but the stress steps up afterward.

House rules also in play:
Activating Player Limits:
- Players may spend 1 PP to activate an opposing player's Limit on a Power Set, but must first offer them a chance to trigger it on their own for 1 PP (awarded by the Watcher).

Converting XP to PP's
- As of Act III, players can exchange their XP for PP's at any time for the remainder of the Maximum Carnage event.

Counter-attacks:
- Counter-attacks require the activation of an opportunity rolled by the initial attacker.

- Extraordinary successes are not factored into a counter-attack.

Counter-Attack SFX:
- In the case of SFX that allow free counter-attacks on a successful reaction (Eg. Domino's Domino Effect, Tigra's Pounce), the initial attacker must still have rolled a 1, but the counter-attacking player can activate it for no PP cost.

PP Caps:
- A player may have up to 5 PP's at any given time.

- A player may use a maximum of 3 dice toward any given total.

Re-Roll SFX:
- Players with SFX that allow them to re-roll dice on an action (Eg. Daredevil's Radar Sense, Spider-Man's Spider-Sense) are allowed one use of the SFX per reaction.

Using Psych/Menace Specialties
- Either the Psych or Menace specialties can be used to defend against a dice pool that includes one or the other.

Reasoning: In the source material, superheroes who lack either skill set typically find some way to resist another heroes' persuasion/threats. Idealistic types like Cap and Spidey usually deal with aggressive, menacing heroes through appealing to their better nature. Conversely, menacing heroes like Hulk and Wolverine usually respond to Psych-based appeals by sticking to their guns.

General Reminders/Advice:
Changing stress type received:
- You can spend a PP to change stress taken into another type. (Eg. Physical -> Emotional, etc.)

Targeting Player traits:
- You can target any power trait on an opposing player's datafile to try and shut it down or step it back. This in turn can limit their ability to use certain SFX dependent on those traits. See OM54 in the game manual for further explanation.

More to come. Message the Watcher or reply in this thread for further questions.

PvP Guide

- Spend 1 PP to activate an enemy player's opportunity and trigger their Limit. In cases where this Limit leads to a power being shut down, the affected player may spend 1 PP to recover the power.
