Re: Current Mission: Maximum Carnage

Stepping up 1d6 doom from Spidey's opportunity in Msg #488.

Doom Pool: 1d8, 1d6

Carnage narrows his eyes as the duo of Spider-Man and Spider-Woman join the fray! The wall-crawler lobs a few webs in Kasady's direction, berating the villain to draw his attention while Jessica gets into position...

Carnage reacts to Spider-Man's attempt to distract him via taunts and insults (Total 11, Effect d6).

Solo 2d10 (Large Scale Threat)
Solo Act d4 (One villain vs. many heroes)
Tentacles d8
Combat Expert 2d6

21:56, Today: Carnage rolled 1,7,2,6,6 using 1d10,1d10,1d4,1d6,1d6 ((1,7,2,6,6)). Does Carnage see through Spidey's distraction ploy?

Total: 13
Effect: d6
Opportunities: 1 (Available first to Spider-Man)

Carnage wins with no Complication taken. Stepping up 1d6 in the Doom Pool from Carnage's use of the "Solo Act" distinction at d4.

Unhindered, the giant Carnage strides clear through the webs, absorbing them into the red mass of symbiote. His flailing tentacles threaten to bat away the heroes as they dive and dodge out of the way.

"Oh Spider-Man, what can I say?" Kasady laughs. "I've got a unique talent, and it's only right I share it with the world!"

He rubs his hands together as he gazes down at his hated enemy.

"Now, what should I do with you, little wall-crawler? I can feel that demon's magic inside me just begging to be let out! Maybe I'll turn you into an ugly little freak like Doppelganger!"

Unconcerned with whatever small threat the heroes pose, Kasady takes a moment to consider the newfound powers at his disposal.  It would seem that if Spider-Man failed to distract the villain, Kasady nonetheless succeeded in distracting himself! For his next sentence is cut short as Spider-Woman draws back with the mystical blade, Dragonfang, and sends it chopping straight at his ankle!

Does Spider-Woman's blade pierce Carnage's ankle?

Solo 2d10 (Large Scale Threat)
Carnage Rules! d4 (Having a moment of arrogance)
Superhuman Durability d10
Combat Expert 2d6

22:21, Today: Carnage rolled 4,2,1,5,2,2 using 1d10,1d10,1d4,1d10,1d6,1d6 ((4,2,1,5,2,2)). Carnage's reaction to Spider-Woman chopping at him with Dragonfang.

Total: 9 (Pitiful!)
Effect: d10
Opportunities: 1 (Available first to Spider-Woman)

Spider-Woman wins with an extraordinary success. 1d10 is eliminated from Carnage's 2d10 Affiliation dice. Her extraordinary success creates a one-use Asset for the next acting hero (Domino or Venom), Sudden Opening d8.

Stepping up 1d8 in the Doom Pool from Carnage's use of the Carnage Rule! distinction at d4.

Doom Pool: 1d10, 1d8

"Ah, I've got it! I'll make y-YEEEOWWCH!"

The giant begins hopping up and down on one foot, clutching his fresh wound as the stadium around the heroes buckles and heaves from his impact. Anyone planning to join in the attack might find this a perfect moment to strike!

As Venom begins to wrap around and engulf Carnage's limb, the giant reacts with amusement.

Total: 11
Effect: d8
Opportunities: 1 (Available first to Venom)

Venom wins and creates a "Grappled" d10 complication on Carnage. Carnage's last remaining d10 Affiliation die steps back to d8. Stepping up 1d10 in the Doom Pool from Carnage's use of the "Solo Act" distinction at d4.

Doom Pool: 1d12, 1d10

Suddenly, Kasady's realizing that his symbiote isn't responding the way it ought to. Down at his heels, Spider-Woman's mystical attack has begun burning the symbiote "armor" off of his gigantic body! Little by little, it spreads up his form, and he begins to shrink! Venom's grip tightens around Carnage more and more with each passing second! Carnage looks to where Domino ended up on the nearby rooftop, his eyes full of that ever-familiar mad delight.

"Now this is a fight!" he smirks. "Well, Domino, what do you have for me?! You've never disappointed me before!"

Re: Current Mission: Maximum Carnage

While Domino & Venom kept Venom preoccupied, Spider-Woman kept out of his direct and peripheral lines of sight. Jessica utilized her spy training and skittered behind her target, taking advantage of his still-increased size and the chaos. She disengaged while Domino fired on Carnage. Afterward, she hastily closed on their common enemy.

Drawing back Dragonfang, Spider-Woman aimed for the back of Carnage’s head. Then, the Dark thrust the magic sword toward the maniacal symbiote’s skull!

In reply to Domino (msg # 494):

Re: Domino's attack.

Domino's SFX steps back 1d12 in the doom pool. Adding 1d6 to the doom pool for Domino's opportunity in Msg #494.

Doom Pool: 2d10, 1d6

As Kasady issues his challenge, Domino rises to the occasion. Taking aim with her guns, the mercenary fires a storm of bullets into the giant Carnage's mouth!

Carnage reacts to Domino's bullet barrage (Total: 23, Effect: d10)

Solo d8 (down from 3d10)

22:12, Today: Carnage rolled 6,2,1,6 using 1d8,1d4,1d10,1d8 ((6,2,1,6)). Carnage resisting getting shot in the tonsils?!

Total: 12
Effect: d4
Opportunities: 1 (Available first to Domino)

Domino wins. 2 extraordinary successes yields her an asset, "Bead on Tigra d8." Adding 1d6 to the doom pool for Carnage's use of the "Carnage Rules!" distinction at d4.

Doom Pool: 2d10, 2d6

"Go on, Domino, show me what you're made-- GRK!!"

Carnage coughs and sputters, choking on the shells blasted into his mouth by Domino's guns. A few rounds even ping! off of his "tonsils," or whatever the equivalent is for a monster like he has become. Then, after a moment, the giant's scowl deepens. He makes a disgusting, snorting sound, like he's preparing to hock a loogie, and then he spits the smoking ammunition back onto the field. The heroes milling about near Domino run for cover as the bullets are ejected from the giant's mouth as though from a cannon, striking the ground with penetrating force!

Spent 1d6 doom to use:

SFX: Symbiote Armor. Spend 1d6 doom to ignore physical stress unless caused by heavy artillery, explosives, or other sufficient penetrative force.

Doom Pool: 2d10, 1d6

At first blush, one might assume the attack was ineffective. But as Carnage's mouth yawns wide, Domino can spy from her perch the mystical glow of one feline Sorceress Supreme! Tigra appears to be trapped deep in the giant's gut, having suffered the cruel fate of being turned into some kind of twisted "living battery" to fuel Carnage's mystical might!

Re: Spider-Woman's attack.

Adding 1d6 to the doom pool for Spider-Woman's opportunity in Msg #495.

Doom Pool: 2d10, 2d6

What can possibly hope to topple this giant now? For anyone pondering the question, the answer might be found in the wreckage surrounding the area. Fire and heat seemed to repel the symbiotes in the past, and there are plenty of pumpkin bombs littering the field, but is this new "King Carnage" even afraid of a little fire? Only Spider-Woman's mystical slashes with Dragonfang seem to have bothered him-- and even the outcome of her latest attack remains to be seen! Seizing the opportunity of Domino's sudden assault, Spider-Woman also leaps into action, following up her earlier attack on the symbiote monster with another swipe of her mystical sword, Dragonfang!

Carnage resists Spider-Woman's sword attack upon his skull (Total: 25, Effect d10).

Solo d8
Chaotic Killer d4 (He really has this coming)
Superhuman Durability d10
Mystic Resistance d6
Combat Expert d8

22:19, Today: Carnage rolled 7,2,2,3,3 using 1d8,1d4,1d10,1d6,1d8 ((7,2,2,3,3)). Carnage resists against Spider-Woman's stabbiness.

Total: 10
Effect: d10
Opportunities: 0

Spider-Woman wins. Her 3 (count 'em!) extraordinary successes yields her an asset, "Bead on Tigra d10." Adding 1d6 to the doom pool for Carnage's use of the "Chaotic Killer" distinction at d4.

Spending 1d6 to use:

SFX: Symbiote Armor. Spend 1d6 doom to ignore physical stress unless caused by heavy artillery, explosives, or other sufficient penetrative force.

Doom Pool: 2d10, 1d6

As she sinks Dragonfang into Carnage's massive skull, Spider-Woman's eyes go wide as a sudden magical feedback from the blade pierces into her own brain. Amid a scramble of images, Jessica can see in her mind's eye the image of Tigra, trapped deep within the symbiotic tomb of Carnage's chest. There, he taps into her mystical power, using it to drive this colossal body of his gifted unto him by the demonic Predator! What's more, Jessica can hear her friend crying her name-- crying for help! But just as soon as the stream of images rush forth, they cease, and Jessica is left reeling for an instant.

Spending 1d10 doom to re-introduce "Trapped Tigra" as a Scene Complication. Until complication is removed, Carnage may roll the Scene Complication in his actions.

Doom Pool: 1d10, 1d6

"Magic?! Oh, not that!" Kasady cries melodramatically, pretending as though he is about to faint from his latest wounds. "Anything but that!"

As the combatants watch in shock, the injuries inflicted on Carnage's legs and head by Jessica's sword begin to heal up right before their eyes!

Spending 1d6 doom to use:

SFX: Demon's Puppet. Spend a d10 doom die to recover one of your Affiliation dice. If in possession of a mystic power source, you may spend a doom die of any size instead.

Carnage regains 1d10 of his Affiliation dice, bringing him to 1d10, 1d8 (Large Scale Threat).

Doom Pool: 1d10

Carnage gives a rough shake of his massive head to dislodge Spider-Woman, sending her not-so-gently back to earth. Sure enough, the gash in his armored skull is already sealing back up just as quickly as the sword's magical energy burns his "flesh" away. Then, with a spiteful chuckle, he sprouts yet more blades and weapons from his form. Standing tall above the heroes, he shows no weakness as he leers down at them in a display of his might.

"Oh wait, that's right! I've learned a few tricks since we last fought," Kasady grins, eyeing the assembly of heroes and vigilantes. "Magic tricks! Call me Copperfield!"

He sighs.

"I only wish one of you were my size, so that this wouldn't be such an easy slaughter! Oh well, I suppose ya can't have it all... Places to go, people to kill!"

Whatever's going to happen next, it better be big! Only a fully united team may have any true hope of victory, with a coordinated attack on this massive titan!

Re: Current Mission: Maximum Carnage

They needed to work together to take down this giant-sized Carnage, that much was clear. But the thought that was forming in Moon Knight's mind was more together than anyone else might have thought.

There were four symbiotes on the 'good guy' side of things: Venom, Spider-Man, Mayhem, and Moon Knight himself. That was a lot of alien goo to work with. And given what they were fighting, it might only be barely enough... or not at all. But this was definitely worth a try.

"Symbiotes!" he shouted. "Form up on me! We're joining forces!"

Mayhem stopped mid-stride and stared at Moon Knight in horror. He doesn't know what he's asking for. But she looked up at her lifelong foe, colossal and godlike, and she knew what had to be done.

This is going to suck.

She launched herself at Moon Knight in a dead sprint.

This is really going to suck.

She reached her target in a diving tackle at chest level, but instead of colliding with Moon Knight she splattered around him, like a real symbiote might do to bond with a host, and beckoned with her remaining tendrils to the other symbiotic heroes.

"I don't have a solid body like you and the others," she whispered in the back of Moon Knight's mind. "I'll work to keep the rest of you bound together... and try to absorb what the bio-pred can dish out so you can dish it back."

"Hold onto your hindbrain, Cape Guy. This is going to suck."

As each hero focuses in turn, their own doubts and fears about the coming fusion begin to subside. With Moon Knight at the head, the others begin a strange joining of their minds and bodies. Using her unique physiology, Mayhem-- a symbiote hybrid rather than a host-- forms the nucleus of the titan. Meanwhile, Venom's hulking arms begin to take shape, as the titan rises up on powerful legs resembling those of Spider-Man (perhaps despite his own wishes). And then, in a final flurry of symbiotic synergy, the towering "Symbiote Voltron," as Spidey called it, stands ready to do battle!

One only hopes this new being-- comprised of many deadly, even psychotic, symbiotes-- knows friend from foe! Otherwise, Daredevil, Domino, Spider-Woman and several other heroes may stand to get caught in the battle of titans!

"Symbiote Voltron" formed. Starting next round, Mayhem, Moon Knight, Spider-Man, and Venom now have the option of posting as "Symbiote Voltron" in addition to their normal characters. Please see the "Symbiote Voltron" datafile in the Player Datafiles thread or PM the Watcher with any questions.

Doom Pool: 1d10, 1d6

Domino spies her opening and leaps from her perch, taking advantage of the super-sized Carnage's moment of distraction. Her luck seems to be in full swing as, down below, the Heroes for Hire have begun launching their own attacks against Kasady. It all serves to keep the giant off-balance long enough for her to sink her hands into the slimy surface of the symbiote and web-rappel down to the site of Tigra's imprisonment.

Luckily for Neena, the improvised net "webbing" Spider-Woman tossed to her seems to be holding. A faint glow emanates from Kasady's chest, slowly fading as the monster siphons power from the sorceress to fuel his giant body. All Domino needs to do now is dig-- using whatever tools she's got-- and grab hold of the feline heroine!

Carnage's passive reaction to Domino's attempt to grab onto Tigra (Total 22, Effect d10).

11:03, Today: Carnage rolled 5,8,2,9,2,2 using 1d10,1d8,1d4,1d10,1d8,1d10.  Carnage reacts against Domino's attempt to create "Hands on the Cat" asset.

Total: 17
Effect: d10
Opportunities: 0

Domino wins with an extraordinary success. "Hands on the Cat" asset d12 is created for Spider-Woman.

After a few moments, Domino's hand brushes against what feels like slimy fur. She latches on, determined not to lose hold of the cat-lady, and gives Spider-Woman the signal to tug them both to safety!

... But as Neena glances upward, a massive head cranes down to glare at her with slitted eyes. With a start, she realizes she's earned the giant's attention!

"Hey... No hitchhikers!"

Spending 1d6 doom to restore one of Carnage's Affiliation dice using the below SFX:

SFX: Demon's Puppet. Spend a d10 doom die to recover one of your Affiliation dice. If in possession of a mystic power source, you may spend a doom die of any size instead.

Carnage's Affiliation dice increase to 2d10,1d8

Doom Pool: 1d10

As Carnage stares down at Domino, his symbiote continues regenerating itself as he draws magical power from the sorceress trapped within his form. Without further threats or insults, he reaches right for Domino with a giant hand!

Spent 1d10 doom to add a 3rd die to the total (d10 that rolled 5). Adding 1d6 doom for Carnage's use of the "Chaotic Killer" distinction at d4. Offering Domino 1 PP to trigger her Limit: Gear and shut down Guns d8 on her reaction:

Limit: Gear. Shutdown a Domino’s Arsenal power to gain 1 PP. Take an action vs. the doom pool to recover that power.

... But she has the right to refuse. (Normally I'd try to force her hand by spending my d6 doom to activate her Limit anyway, but I can't spend the one I just got until my next turn).

Re: Current Mission: Maximum Carnage

Seeing the massive hand coming for her, Domino slipped a little in the symbiotic goop that held she and Tigra.
The action caused her to drop her gun, and for a split, slow motion second, she watched it plummet towards the ground.  She still had another gun on her, but it was totally inaccessible at this time ... buried in Carnage slime as she was.

And in that moment, she wondered why the hell she was now stuck to this miserable monstrosity, without her guns, simply to save some ... some ... some HERO!
She didn't have time to chastise herself right now; that would have to wait till later.

But Domino was a Hardened Merc with more experience in Combat situations like this than a girl her age had a right to; and right now, she was trying to play Happy Team Friendship Buddiestm with these guys.

As the massive hand reached for her, she allowed it to come close enough that its owner probably couldn't quite see where she was ... then she slipped to the left, and extended her Staff brutally, in a way that hopefully redirected the paw away from herself.

And still, she kept hold of that part of Tigra that she'd managed to lay hands on ... in the hope that, any moment now, that Spiderhero would yank them both free of this nightmare.

Re: Current Mission: Maximum Carnage

Daredevil swings out of the shadows and comes to perch on top of the head of the symbiote amalgamation. The thing had assembled to a size large enough to perhaps not notice the horn-headed hero taking position on its crown, but hopefully also on the same scale as the hulking Carnage monstrosity that has been hulking around for far too long. "Steady, steady," DD says, not assuming whatever it is that makes up the shifting figure will take notice of anything he says, but more his own prayer that the whole thing won't come apart suddenly to dump him on the ground.

While this impromptu kaiju was assembling, DD had been scoping the Carnage monstrosity, seeking a weak point, anything that will give them any kind of edge against the thing. But if that weakness isn't on the outside, maybe it's on the interior (though not literally, until they retrieve their lost hero from that whale's belly).

Feeling the convergence shakily finding its balance beneath his feet, Daredevil realizes how lucky he is to not be concerned with being taken over by that nightmare, but for once cursing his own super-hearing in hearing the sickening slathering and slithering of those tendrils moving and roiling and seething around each other. Better to be here and have the distance from the even-sicker Carnage, whose secrets weren't quite as locked down as he thought. "The trick to taking him down might come from something other than punching him," DD says, over the surrounding noise and the internal, slithering sound. "How big can this thing get? How much can these symbiotes grow or puff up to get bigger than him? The key could be in out-sizing Carnage!"

To create Carnage's Secret Revealed Asset:
Team    d6
Blind Justice (senses distracted)    d4

Combat Expert    2d6
Family Secrets: Carnage Resource    d12

Daredevil rolls 6,2,6,6,11 using d6,d4,d6,d6,d12 ((6,2,6,6,11)).

Total: 5
Effect: d4
Opportunities: 0

Daredevil wins. "Carnage's Secret Revealed" d12 asset created for "Symbiote Voltron." Extraordinary success yields DD a d6 push die toward his next roll.

Daredevil's probing proves fruitful as, after a few moments, he gathers several useful observations. What appears to an untrained observer to be the Carnage symbiote merely endowed with greater size and mass is, in fact, a conglomeration of many separate symbiotes bound together-- not unlike the 40-foot construct beneath Daredevil's feet. But unlike the "Symbiote Voltron" the heroes formed, the creatures comprising Carnage's 50 foot-tall body are being forced into his servitude. Their fear and hatred of Cletus Kasady is tangible-- and if it could be exploited, it could be another path to victory!

Re: Domino's successful reaction (Msg #508)

Having already survived being Carnage's captive once this evening, Domino can be forgiven if she has no desire to repeat the experience. As the towering titan's hand closes in on her, she leaps out of its path and nails one of his giant fingers with a swing of her metal staff. Carnage draws his hand back, more out of frustration than pain.

"Don't wanna play, Domino? Well, why don't I just squash you instead?!"

His giant arm rears back, palm and fingers splaying wide as he prepares to make good on his threat! Seeing it, the mercenary might well pray that her plan goes off without a hitch:
quote:
Hopefully, the super strong web spinner would get the idea ... web Domino mid-flight, and once the Femme Fatale latched on to Pussy Galore, pull them free in some kind of heroic yank.

Re: Spider-Woman's action (from Msg #505, 1st turn of the new round)

Step up 1d6 in the Doom Pool for Domino's opportunity in Msg #508. Step up 1d8 in the Doom Pool and add 1d6 for Spider-Woman's 2 opportunities in Msg #505.

Doom Pool: 1d10,1d6

Hearing the giant's threat, Spider-Woman senses her cue. She gives a mighty tug on the makeshift web-line and, at the last second, she attempts to yank Domino clear of the giant's swatting hand!

Spend 1d6 doom to add a 3rd die to the total (d4 that rolled 3).

Total: 10
Effect: d10
Opportunities: 0

Spider-Woman wins. Extraordinary success steps up "Web Domino" asset past d12. Asset results in Domino being yanked to safety, and Spider-Woman gets a d6 push die for her next turn.

Doom Pool: 1d10

Perhaps unused to his large new body, Carnage doesn't seem to notice that Domino has been outfitted with a makeshift web-line. He doesn't have time to react as the mercenary is suddenly pulled along by it, too quickly to test his strength or reflexes against the heroine on the other end. Meanwhile, Domino maintains a strong grip on Tigra, and there is an audible *sploosh* as the sorceress is pulled free of the red symbiote mass. Domino carries her ally along in tow as they fall back to solid ground...

"Trapped Tigra" d10 scene complication removed.

"Let's do this," the symbiote amalgam said in what sounded almost like Moon Knight's voice. It was the usual growl, but deeper than ever, and loud enough to shake the bleachers. Giant fists slammed together. Now this was a fair fight. "Hey, stupid!"

The idiot was paying so much attention to Spider-Woman and Domino that it had failed to notice that his opponents had gotten extremely creative, not to mention big. That was a mistake that should cost him greatly. The new giant ran at 'King Karnage' and clocked him one. Moving the giant form was a bit awkward, but there wasn't much distance to cross, and throwing a punch was something Moon Knight excelled at.

Adding 1d6 doom for Carnage's use of the "Solo Act" distinction at d4 in Msg #511. Adding another 2d6 doom for Symbiote Voltron (Moon Knight)'s *2 opportunities in Msg #512.

*Note that SYMBIOTE VOLTRON has the following Limit:

Limit: Distracted Driver. If a pool includes a SYMBIOTIC TITAN power, both 1's and 2's on those dice count as opportunities, but only 1's are excluded from being used for totals or effect dice

Doom Pool: 1d10, 3d6

Rather than express any fear or doubt at the sight of his new adversary, Carnage gives a wicked laugh instead.

"Marc, is that you in there? My, what big eyes you have!"

He keeps right on laughing as his foe's giant, symbiote-armored fist sails toward his face, goading Moon Knight as he tries to duck out of the way...

Reaction to Symbiote Voltron (Moon Knight)'s attack on Carnage (Total 19, Effect d8).

Total: 16
Effect: d10
Opportunities: 0

Moon Knight wins. His effect die steps back to d6 (due to Carnage's higher d10), but he still reduces one of Carnage's Affiliation dice to d6. Spent 1d6 doom to add a 3rd die to the total (d4 that rolled 3).

King Carnage's Affiliation dice stand at 2d10,1d6

Doom Pool: 1d10, 2d6

Though he tries to slip the punch, Carnage underestimates his enemy's incredible speed, and he takes the hard blow right on the chin. But as he goes down, his giant right arm morphs into something resembling the trademark axe he loves to swing around. Kasasy rebounds, glowering at his foe as he brandishes the symbiote-blade menacingly.

"Maybe I'll cut them out of your head!"

Spending 1d10 doom to give King Carnage an asset, "Symbiote Axe," and spending another d6 doom to make it persistent. Adding d6 doom for Carnage's use of the "Chaotic Killer" distinction at d4.

Doom Pool: 2d6

Total: 15
Effect: d10
Opportunities: 1 (Available first to Venom)

Carnage wins. Buying Venom's remaining opportunity to counterattack and create a complication on "Symbiote Voltron." Stepping up 1d6 doom for Carnage's use of the "Carnage Rules!" distinction at d4.

Doom Pool: 2d8

Though Venom's appeal seems to have gotten the attention of the symbiotes making up Kasady's body, their fear and pain is causing them to lash out wildly. Their screeching telepathic feedback assails Eddie Brock's mind-- and because they now share a body, his symbiote-connected companions feel it as well!

Symbiote Voltron takes a d10 "Psychic Feedback" complication. One Affiliation die removed. Complication does not linger.
