Re: OOC Discussion

In reply to The Watcher (msg # 23):

quote:
1) Generally speaking, would you be interested to have elements of romance in the plot of Marvel Mania?

I'm open to it if it fits the narrative or comes up in play. I'm indifferent if it is implemented.

quote:
2) If yes to the above, are you interested to have the possibility of romance between player characters?

Same as above.

quote:
3) If yes to the above, how would you prefer to establish relationships between player characters? (Decide it beforehand through OOC discussion? Figure it out through play as we go? Use whatever's on the character sheets? Something else?)

I guess it would depend for me. If Someone wanted to say that we had an established relationship currently or in the past, I'd prefer that be decided beforehand OOC. If someone were to roleplay that they were pursuing a romantic relationship, it can be done in game and may or may not happen based on roleplay. Details or problems could be addressed OOC.

quote:
4) If the character sheet you are using has references to past/current relationships, do you consider them "canon" to your version of the character? If so, which ones?

Not a reference on my sheet, but I note that Mary Jane was one of those snapped by Thanos in this timeline. Spider-Man would be a widower then. I'd consider his past relationships in comics before that canon (Betty Brant, Black Cat, Gwen Stacy, etc.)

quote:
5) If you have ever played a character with romance-themed milestones, did you use them or swap them out for different ones?

This is my first Marvel Heroics game, but I've roleplayed romance in other tabletop games as a player and GM. I'd be willing to use romance-themed milestones if it were interesting and fit what I wanted to go for at the time.

I think we're all new here, right? Even the ones that have been in this campaign since the beginning have only had an extra week or two.

Re: OOC Discussion

I've added a game map if anyone would like a reference for where things are in the two current scenes. Movement/positioning is pretty open to interpretation in this game, but I know it helps a visual guy like me to at least have something to go by. Especially when there are a crap-ton of characters to keep track of like right now.

Also, Tito is not to scale. :P

Domino:
So I guess, Tigra's roll is an 'Aid' action to Domino ... who will lead the effort to track the bad guy.

Right! Since Tigra jumped in due to a disturbance, she isn't clear on what exactly happened in the first place, so all she wants is aid in ending it. And it looks like trying to keep Domino alive too...

Domino:
This is true ... but Domino is a decent 'buddy' to have, and as the two seem be working this alone, while the other heroes do 'civilian rescue' stuff (and maybe go find this Grandfather in Trouble) ...

Sweet! So hoping that Domino and Tigra do build a good networking connection then. If you'd like to keep discussing things on here, I would be more than glad to do so. I'm also open to doing it through PM if that would be best for you.

Right now I was hoping to distract Demogoblin to find Domino somewhere and drag her to a safe spot to try to do some healing on Domino since she just took a LOT of damage :/. Looks like maybe Moon Knight might be in the area.

The Watcher:
1) Generally speaking, would you be interested to have elements of romance in the plot of Marvel Mania?

If part of the plot or relevant to current situation.

The Watcher:
2) If yes to the above, are you interested to have the possibility of romance between player characters?

I'd prefer it to be between NPC and player characters, however, open to it depending on how it affects the plot.

The Watcher:
3) If yes to the above, how would you prefer to establish relationships between player characters? (Decide it beforehand through OOC discussion? Figure it out through play as we go? Use whatever's on the character sheets? Something else?)

I agree with Spider-Man.

The Watcher:
4) If the character sheet you are using has references to past/current relationships, do you consider them "canon" to your version of the character? If so, which ones?

Yes. Tigra is the widow of Bill Nelson who was a cop.
I did play Tigra through a Civil War campaign so my version of the character includes having married an NPC, elderly Texas senator named Russell (Tigra fights crime, Russell fights the establishment), so Tigra is currently married, unless discussed otherwise to fit the current story.

The Watcher:
5) If you have ever played a character with romance-themed milestones, did you use them or swap them out for different ones?

Have both used and swapped out.

I think the question was more focused on the fact that I had cited a past relationship in my first post. Moon Knight and Tigra briefly dated when they were in the West Coast Avengers together.

If you would prefer to drop that tiny piece of her history, though, just chalk it up to Moon Knight being insane. Even on a good day, he's not in his right mind.

Hi! I forgot to add at the end of that. I'm glad you brought it up. I  don't know much about Tigra beyond her four little issues that were published in the 2000s,and what's on her character sheet which I haven't look at in a while (I have to search for it somewhere). So I didn't know much about Moon Knight and Tigra up until later last night after I made my post.

Would you mind if we established the terms they left off in? Sounds like it was good terms based on your turn, so we can definitely keep it friendly if that was what happened (or the opposite, souldn't find much on their terms online). I would still like her to be married to her super old Texan husband, who lives in Texas while Tigra does her heroine stuff. I think everyone agrees Moon Knight is something else. Appreciate working it out before hand :)

Re: OOC Discussion

Sure. I'd say they could be on good terms. I had stopped reading WCA around that time, so I don't actually remember if they had a break-up or anything, but I suspect it was just dropped when MK left the team. Call it a casual fling that ended amicably?

The Marvel wiki is excellent source material for character backgrounds.

Since you have limited background knowledge of the character, I'm guessing that you DON'T include the fact that she has a son with Hank Pym?

Re: OOC Discussion

I have no problems with Relationships in play.

That said, I don't do them often.  In fact, the only current character I have in a Relationship is in a game that I've been playing (here on RPoL) for ten+ years.   Our characters have been friends for a long time; though I played out the 'crush' my character had on the other.  We discussed it Privately before the two actually coming together.

If others want to play a romance, that is fine with me.
But if I'm going to do it, it'll be one that grows organically in the storyline.

Re: OOC Discussion

Thanks everyone for your input. I didn't want to assume off the bat that everyone is OK with RPing romance, but looks like we're a pretty flexible bunch. And as the campaign is still open to new players, it's good we've already had the conversation. If anything comes up with it that needs approval or my attention, feel free to contact me. Otherwise, I'll leave it up to you guys to pursue those plot threads on your own terms.

@Tigra Did you wanna tell these guys about She-Hulk's fling with Venom in the old days of the campaign? Or... *shudder*... Big Daddy Thanos? :P

Re: OOC Discussion

I realized things may have gotten confusing with the two current scenes running side by side. Let's see if we can clear it up.

Scene A (Near the deli)
Daredevil
Spider-Man
Carrion
Symbiote Monsters 3d8

Scene B (In the alleys)
Domino
Moon Knight
Tigra
Demogoblin
Symbiote Monsters 3d8 (different group from 1st mob)

I've updated the status tracker so it's hopefully easier to keep track of. I am hoping to have all the characters in one scene roll their actions before jumping back to the other scene. That way, we're not ping-ponging back and forth between scenes too much and things don't get too confusing.

While we are treating this game-wise as two different scenes, the characters in Scene A are story-wise probably not more than a few city blocks away from the players in Scene B. I would say DD could probably hear what is going on in Scene B, but it's unlikely there would be communication between the two groups without some Tigra magic or something else involved.

Re: OOC Discussion

Also, a quick reminder that all the characters in a turn order need to take their actions before anyone gets to go again. Sometimes reactions are mistaken for actions-- understandable, especially if the narrative of the story makes it seem like such. If it helps, you might think of actions and reactions like playing soccer:

Kicking a goal = An action
(In game terms: Rolling vs. another character or the doom pool in order to apply an effect die as stress, an asset, a complication, etc.)

Playing goalie = A reaction
(In game terms: Rolling vs. another character or the doom pool in order to block an effect die from being applied as stress, an asset, a complication, etc.

Not everyone plays goalie in every turn order, but everyone gets a chance to score a goal.

Quick reminder that you can always roll an opponents' stress die and any complication die they have in your dice pool.

Hope you guys don't mind these occasional tips. I'll try and mainly post them here rather than fill up the game thread with too much meta-game stuff.

Edit: I forgot to roll Domino's d12 of stress in my reaction pool. Rather than redo my whole post, we'll just chalk it up to your luckiness and call this one a freebie. :P

Thats cool, I forgot to add his stress into Domino's attack roll.

I didn't know that a characters Stress could be added to reaction rolls by another.
I thought it was simply a bonus to Attack dice rolls against that character, designed to inflict further Stress of that type.

Admittedly, I'm still getting used to that rule myself, as I didn't discover it until near the end of our old pre-RPoL campaign. (Read: after almost a year of playing).

Anyway, hope everyone here gets the hang of it sooner. :P

Re: OOC Discussion

As an addition to the post about including an opponent's stress in action/reaction dice pools: there is no requirement that you have to include it. Sometimes, if the stress is low (d4, d6), you increase the of risk rolling an opportunity.

Re: OOC Discussion

Damage as Stress in this game is a bit different than in other games. Instead of being a tally on the character, it's an element to be used against them. So technically they carry no damage on them but they have something that can make affecting them easier. It takes a bit to get your head around but it can make sense. (An alternate to this rule is having the Stress on a character take away a die in their dice pool, but that seems needlessly complicating.) Also something I often forgot until I started using a template (and something our Watcher missed using against me in msg #80 (if he didn't want to risk the d4)).

Can we claim 'Milestones' in our Reaction posts?
or only during our Action?

(I am guessing the second)

Re: OOC Discussion

@Domino It depends on the milestone, but in general you can hit them on both actions and reactions. Some are specifically triggered by a reaction type of roll, like Spider-Man's "DEADLY FOES OF SPIDER-MAN" 3 XP milestone, which is triggered by him taking trauma from a chosen foe.

I see.  Thanks.  M

Next question:  this ‘Symbiote-homing bullets’ asset it have.   How long does that asset benefit me?
Until the end of the adventure (presumably until I can get my hands on Scumbag?), or is it a one shot asset that I’ve just wasted on some minions?

Re: OOC Discussion

@Domino As Tigra paid the 1 PP when creating it, that makes it a "persistent asset" which, per the gamebook, lasts "until the end of the next Action Scene." Since it was created in the previous Transition Scene and we are now in an Action Scene, the asset would indeed go away at the end of this scene. But until then, you can keep rolling it on any action/reaction vs. the Symbiote Monsters.

Better hang onto that Carnage File d12 and hope that Tigra can whip up some more magic bullets for you later. ;)

We're coming up on another Transition Scene pretty soon, so I'll try and get those Unlockables added within the next week or so. I'll also update the Milestone/XP tracker again once I have a fresh tally of Spider-Man's everyone's XP.
