Epilogues
Hey all. Just wanted to check in again and confirm I'm not lost in the Multiverse (or in an experimental submersible). You may have even noticed there were a few consecutive(ish) Watcher posts last week-- hurrah!
(Does anyone ever actually say 'hurrah'?)
While I'm in the rare (for me) position of waiting on a player post before I move things ahead, I wanted to give another campaign forecast. Somehow, May, which was my most recent target for finishing the epilogue, is already long gone, with June on the way out. I can only offer that real-life obstacles have continued to keep me from devoting much energy to RPOL, though my enthusiasm for this game still hasn't wavered in all the time since we wrapped Maximum Carnage. Some GM's might decide to just call a game off after such a long period of inactivity, but I see this as more of a long-term writing project that often switches between the front and back burners. For the next two months, but hopefully no longer, it remains on the back burner, with only occasional posts from me. I hope that's cool with everyone, and that you know by now I'm not the type that would ghost on you without warning. I like to think that, despite running things horribly slowly for the last year and a half, that it might be my saving grace as a GM on here-- that my interest in Marvel and this system runs too deep to ever let the flame here go out completely.
I'm sticking to my plan of taking some time off over summer-- my first vacation since 2019-- before making a commitment to getting the game moving at a regular speed again. Assuming I get accepted into grad school starting in the fall, I plan to take August off to try and recuperate from the burnout that's been keeping me from creative pursuits. (Or any pursuits, really. I often tell Tigra that it feels like being too tired to watch TV, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's ever been there.) I'm not sure yet if I'll be posting here during that time-- part of me wants to unplug from everything, but if I get a sudden inspiration, I doubt if I can keep myself away.
I don't want to assume anyone's patience or interest is infinite-- at this point the epilogue might be taking longer to get through than the original adventure-- but you've all been gracious enough thus far and I hope you'll bear with me through what I believe is the final stretch of waiting. I'm hoping that the game can soon become something like a weekly routine, but everyone here will get plenty of advance notice before any posting expectations as such go into effect. I can't say for sure if we'll ever re-capture the quickest pace we achieved last time around, with multiple actions in the span of a day, but at least we could aim for something consistent and sustainable that works for everyone.
Sorry again for any false starts or mixed signals. There's a plan for what comes next, and we're getting closer with each new post. This epilogue has been a bit of an experiment, but everyone's done a great job playing along, even given my (almost total) lack of guidelines. Just know it will pay off-- there has to be something of a status quo set in place before we can blow it all to hell in the next chapter. It will be worth the wait.
