I point my Shield at an open space and chant to Lathander. A weapon of spiritual energy materializes and strikes at one of the wounded spiders. I then hit that same spider with my mace.

Jaskier levels his crossbow at one of the Spiders and strikes it in the face and it lets out a horrible squeaking screeching sound.

Gwen can be heard saying, "Pew, pew, pew." Magical bolts lash out at three of the Giant Spiders singing hair and releasing a foul odor.

Imbert lines up his crossbow on the yet undamaged Spider and lets loose two bolts.

Zanben launches an assault at the Spider in front of him. His first attack goes wide while is second attack cleaves the beasts head in two and it sinks to the ground and no longer moves.

OOC: Spider at I9 is Kilt.

Bandalor summons a Spirtual weapon and uses his attacks against the Spider in front of him. He crushes the beasts head in with his mace.

The two remaining Spiders attack Zanben and Bandalor with their fangs dripping with poison.

Bandlaor Is also hit with a 22 for 9 points of damage and must make a constitution save.

I direct my wrath at the Spider now in front of me giving it both spiritual weapon and mace.

Gwen Fires a magic missile at the Spider in I10 and two missiles into the Spider at H10.

Zanben drops the remaining Spider. He then takes and additional 13 points of poison damage as it courses through his system.

You find yourself looking at six cracked marble pillars that line the walls of this hall, at the north end of which stands a nine-foot-tall statue of a dwarf seated on a throne, a mighty stone warhammer across his lap. Large emeralds gleam in the statue's eyes.

The dust and debris covering the floor has been swept to one side, and a campsite of sorts now spreads in front of the statue. Half a dozen bedrolls and packs are neatly arranged around a rough-built fire pit. A wooden table stands on the west side of the room between two pillars.

[OOB] Zanben is dropped by that massive poison damage.  13 damage, WTF were these massive black windows of something?  What would be dead dead cause that would bring him almost negative 50% of his health.

Jaskier sets about looking over Zanben's wounds asking "Would you like me address these for you?  Those damn spiders were brutal."

Once healed up, Zanben jumps to his feet and instantly begins looking over the room for anything of value or stands out as something that would need further investigation.

The Statue in the back center of the room is a beautifully carved rendition of a dwarf. The table in the West is covered in notes and a what appears to be a rough map of the mine with notes on areas searched. Amongst the paper work you find a note that reads: Toblen Stonehill, Stonehill Inn ask about abandoned Fortress of Sword Mountains.

"Fortress of Sword Mountains, sounds like a fun place."  Zanben then begins to rummage through the notes to try and gain any insight on things that may have missed.

[OOC] Investigation 1D20+2=20

Gwen begins to investigate the notes, attempting to preserve their order as she packs them for later study. "I wonder why they camped here without taking the emeralds from the statue? I can understand that they were here for the Forge, but that seems odd. Master Spectator, do you know anything of this statue?" She examines the map, comparing it to what they've already explored. Ripley perches on the statue's shoulder.

[OoC]: I assume this is the camp of the Spider and his (it's?) men. Gwen bungles her Investigation check, but maybe she can do better back at camp.

The notes and maps seem to indicate they had trouble getting past the flame skull and the poison mushrooms. The notes eem to indicate they were after ancient magic items but most importantly the forge of spells

"So looks like we basically handed them the forge on a silver platter.  I can always ask the statue where the forge is as a last resort, but we only get 1 ask so the question is do we want the forge that bad."

"I think that's our last resort. Once we clear this place out for the dwarf boys and get back to Phandalin, I'll work with Mizer on tracking down the Spider. Who knows, maybe the Spectator will have a moment of clarity somewhere along the way and recall some detail, or there's some clue buried in these notes. We'll get the Forge back, one way or another, and Gundren and I will make you all some shiny toys."

"I like shiny toys.  As for the spectator, it hasn't been much help thus far, but here's to hoping.  I'm gonna head back down and see if I can find a way to scaly down into the rift."  Zanben walks back down to the big room with the rift going down into possibly more caverns.  He walks up to and along the edge of the western wall of the rift to see if there is anything to climb down with.
