[OoC]: During the planning phase, Gwen casts Mage Armor from the Staff of Defense. I know some players are busy today... just to be clear, Gwen lets Zanben sneak into the cave and make his attack, then lets all other surprise actions go by before she casts. Sleep works based on hit points remaining, so it's key that she goes last in the surprise round.

Gwen crouches in a cleft in the rock and watches the half-elf disappear into the mouth of the cave. She starts a silent countdown and glances at Bandalor opposite her, readying his weapons, and at Jaskier and Imbert behind her, bowstrings taut. After giving Zanben time to find his target, she starts to move, waiting for the wet sound of his blades finding orc flesh to break into a run. She targets the back wall of the cave with her spell, taking care to spare her friends. The sounds of a magical orcish lullaby fill the air, luring orcs off to sleep with violent green dreams.

[OoC]: Surprise round: Move to somewhere around row S. Cast Sleep with a 2nd level slot. 45 hit points worth of creatures within 20' of the orc in W12 fall unconscious for 1 minute, no save. Start with the fewest remaining hit points and work upwards until the remaining hit points of the spell don't exceed the remaining hit points of the targets. Also, ready Shield as a reaction.

14:18, Today: Gwyndolyn Glyphwyrd rolled 45 using 7d8 ((8,5,7,7,8,6,4)).

The echoes of the lullaby are still ringing in the cavern when Gwen drops to one knee, pivots, and fires three magical bolts that streak toward the ogre. Her sharp Gnomish eyes scan the cave for side passages and hidden threats.

[OoC]: Initiative 21. Magic Missile for 9. Use Darkvision to look around... does this cave keep going into orc-filled hell?

14:25, Today: Gwyndolyn Glyphwyrd rolled 21 using 1d20+4 ((17)).
14:29, Today: Gwyndolyn Glyphwyrd rolled 9 using 3d4+3 ((1,3,2)).

Even as Gwen watches Zanben lunge sideways to exploit an advantage, she sees the orcs drawing inward around him and Bandalor and does some quick arithmetic. Then she rushes into the melee, pausing along the way to fire off three more sizzling bolts. As she draws nearer the wall of orcs, she baits the biggest one. "So you're the Big Boss?" she says. "Big Boss of Not Much, it looks to me..." She readies her glass stave and squares off against the brutes.

[OoC]: Move to T16, casting Magic Missile at the Big Boss for 12 points just before she arrives. She still has Shield readied as a Reaction; if she's attacked, her AC goes to 21 until her next turn. Not actually planning to fight these goons, but hopefully she'll draw some heat off the others.

19:13, Today: Gwyndolyn Glyphwyrd rolled 12 using 3d4+3 ((1,4,4)).

A well placed bolt brings the Orc boss down. The remaining orcs seeing the ogre down and the big boss brought down look at each other and run for the exit of the cave. Seeing them flee the group  thinks it will be a long while if ever that those fleeing ever return. There is the matter of the two sleeping Orcs who will be waking soo

Gwen is sporting a sizeable gash in her flank. "Oof. That stings." She sits down heavily on the ogre's meaty forearm, then catches a whiff, groans, and limps to a rock on the other side of the cavern. "These orcs were up to something... a big pile of rubble on the far side of the ravine, all this clutter in here." She gestures around.

[OoC]: What is all this stuff on the maps? Smashed wagons or shipping crates? Is that something under a tarp in the adjacent cavern? And are there any exits?

The Orcs appear to ha e been raiding the main road for some time but there is nothing of worth from the scattered remains however an unlocked treasure chest in the cave holds 750 cp, 180 sp, 62 ep, 30 gp, and three vials of perfume (10 gp each). The dead Orcs each have a great axe, javelin and hide armor and the ogre has a great club a javeline and hide armor.
