PRISONERS OF THE DROW!

You grew up with tales of the nightmarish elves of the Underdark. Your parents frightened you with them. Their cruel sadism; their penchant for poison, torture, and slaves; their worship of demons; their especial hatred of other elves; how they would come to the surface world and steal away people to never return, to toil and die in the dark caverns far below the sun.

And now it’s happened to you. However it happened, they came upon you in the night, overpowered you, and took you away.

Took you down. Down into darkness. You were carried for days. Finally, you were tossed into this dark cave.

Here you are – clad in filthy sack cloth, the heavy weight of metal tight around your throat and wrists, which are also chained together. Other prisoners are here with you, in an underground outpost far from the light of the sun. Velkynvelve is its name.

Your captors include a cruel drow priestess who calls herself Mistress Ilvara of House Mizzrym. Over the past several days, you’ve met her several times, robed in silken garments and flanked by two male drow, one of whom has a mass of scars along one side of his face and neck.

Mistress Ilvara likes to impress you with scourge in hand and remind you that your life now belongs to her:

“Accept your fate, learn to obey, and you may survive.”

Her words echo in your memory, even as you plot your escape.

OOC: each of you, roll a d10 – that will be the number of days that you have been here. Then roll a d20 and add the result of the first roll please.

Adahl'en has been here for 4 days. In that time, while working for the drow, he has managed to acquire something -- not something very useful, though.

He has a small, flawed carnelian gemstone worth 10 gp. He pried it out of the cave wall.

Could you describe Adahl'en to the other prisoners, please? How he looks and what he has told them, if anything.

Violet has been here 4 days as well, and Jamin 6.

Violet has managed to get her hands on an iron bar (big enough to be used as a club) that she has secreted in the cave somewhere. Jasmin has acquired a flint shard, which could be used as a dagger.

Please describe yourselves to the others!

In reply to Key and Guardian of the Gate (msg # 5):

Adahl'en is a muscular, medium-sized Wood Elf with copper skin, black hair and hazel eyes, who recently reached adulthood.

The only thing he has said is that they must wait out their time here, but look for an opening and fight to be free.

Voilet is extremely on edge and will be acting in an extremely agitated manner. She can’t go through this captivity again.

Violet is visibly not normal. By which I mean, she has a tail, horns, and vestigial wings.

Some of the other prisoners don't like her very much. (more about them later)

Jamin is tall, just a few pounds too heavy to be considered of slight build.  His long, dark hair is tangled and both hands are bloody - he is unaccustomed to physical labor.  Dust, like ash, covers his cheeks.

Violet is striking in appearance due to her short black gazelle like horns and 3ft long tail, and her skin being in mottled shades of purple, from deep tones to a pale violet.
She has long dark blue hair tied in a tight braid that hangs down her back past a small pair of underdeveloped leathery bat like wings. These look like they would never bear her weight despite her being a tiny thing. She is waif like at a just a little over 5 feet and about 84lbs.

Her jet back pupil less eyes seem to show a steely determination which occasionally slip into a deep fear.

She is little more than a child and appears to be in her teens.

She is guarding her new found "weapon" as if her life depends on it.

As yet she has spoken to no one and when ever possible has kept her back to the walls.

It is fairly easy to tell she is having a hard time in captivity and is exteremly on edge.

In reply to Violet (msg # 10):

Adahl'en cautiously approaches the winged, horned, seemingly female creature, hoping she understands the Common tongue.

"My...uh lady. I noticed you were dragged down to this damn drow hole around the same time I was. I understand you are mighty upset and afraid, and probably do not trust anyone or anything here. You don't need to believe me now, but I want to help us all get out of here. I will do what I can to not let anyone of us be hurt by our captors. I will do what I can to defend you if needed, to defend all of you if needed. But we must work together. We must trust that we have allies here...something I, myself, have trouble with believing, but must believe. I will leave you be now. But if and when you are ready, please come talk to me. I am not far. Just over there." Pointing to where he has plotted out a space for himself in this dank place.

The room is illuminated with dim light (meaning that Adahl'en and Violet can see perfectly fine). It comes from a lantern filled with luminescent fungus that hangs from the ceiling.

There is the constant sound of falling water. There is a waterfall in the cavern outside. The slave pen is in the wall of a larger cavern, on a ledge high above the cave floor connected by bridges made of spider silk, to other ledges and to immense stalagmites that the drow have hollowed out and use as buildings.

There are several other prisoners in the cave. You have gotten to know a little about some of them. Some of them are from the surface and are not that strange to you. Others are denizens of the Underdark.

There are three Svirfneblin -- Deep Gnomes. Like surface gnomes, but gray like stone. One is Jimjar. He is gregarious and speaks Common. He makes bets constantly, seemingly almost compulsively. They other two are brothers -- Topsy and Turvy. They almost never speak except with each other.

Ront, a large, muscular orc. He speaks a little Common. He is aggressive, intimidating. He thinks he's boss in this little group.

Eddeth Feldrun. Speaks Common. She is a shield dwarf scout from the dwarf fortress of Gauntylgrym, captured while scouting in the Underdark. She doesn't like Violet -- says that Violet is a devil.

Sarith, a male drow. He stays by himself, speaking rarely. He has a strange nervous tic. The other prisoners say that he is here because he murdered another drow, and now awaits transport to the City of Spiders to be sacrificed to their demonic deity Lolth.

Buppido. You at first thought that he was a small dwarf. But he is a derro. A race enslaved by the Dark Dwarves, the Duergar.

Prince Derendil. At least that is what he says his name is. This immense ape-creature, a "quaggoth," claims, in fluent Elvish, to be a high elf prince from the High Forest who was polymorphed into his current form by an evil wizard.

Shuushar, or Shuushar the Awakened, as he calls himself. He is a fish-man, what the other underdarkers here call a "koa-toa". He sits silently, rarely moving, in a meditative position, always calm.

Finally, oddest of all, is Stool. Stool cannot speak. He, or it, is a three-foot-tall ambulatory mushroom with arms and legs. He cannot speak -- but he can emit a cloud of spores that allow those around him to enter telepathic rapport with each other. Which is how you have communicated with him and the other prisoners whose languages you do not share.

The evening meal -- horrible fungus gruel -- was served an hour ago. Now you're supposed to be getting ready to sleep.

The prisoners sit around the cave, talking, thinking, passing the time.

---

What do you do?

In reply to Adahl'en Dar'misaan (msg # 11):

Violet shies away just slightly a concerned look on her face. however she listens intently to your offer of help and kind words.

Her voice barely a whisper "I have only recently escaped a similar enslavement, I an not sure if I can go through this again"

The pain is evident on her young face. She stares trying to read your intent. her look not one of total fear but neither of complete trust.

Again in a whisper "I agree, we must aid each other as best we are able, I am no fighter but will do what I can"

She shies away hoping that the captors have heard nothing.

Knowing that the awful gruel is her only sustenance Violet  will have eaten her portion.
She will stay with her back firmly to the cave wall. Slyly keeping an eye on where she has hidden her Iron Bar, after speaking briefly with Adahl'en she is a tiny bit less agitated.
