Re: Respite in Dunnold

Fetch cultivated a deep blush and a sheepish grin as the fairy's flattery hit him like a club. He had rarely seen such a creature, certainly never this up close and personal.

He studied her with a bit of wonderment as he responded; "You must be Melissa, our mutual acquaintance here spoke very highly of you..." unsure if he could improve his standing with Slattery by embellishing a bit, "... though the details of your endeavors as a group were quite sparse."

Suddenly remembering his manners, Fetch offered a welcoming nod to Odhran, "Greetings."

"I'll take second," Slattery tells Melissa in response to him not being the most handsome human in the group.  He raises an eye at Fetcher's take on his description of the group.

"Did you all get what you needed as far as magic?" Slattery asks the others.  "I could use a few more mundane supplies.  It'll take me a few days to heal up anyway."

Thea gives a nod toward Fetcher as the introductions are made, then sits down in anticipation of a good meal and a drink or two.

"I think so," she says in response to Slatterly's question.  "At the very least, we got what we mainly wanted.  We'll see how our remaining funds look before we think about other purchases."

"Well met Fetcher," said Odhran.  "Has Slattery been regaling you of his heroics, or is he trying to recruit you?"

Following Thea's comment, he adds, "yes, we need to consider if another spell will help our little group.  We also need to make sure we have enough supplies to stay out longer."

"Maybe we could buy a pack mule or two?" Melissa suggests, visions of donkeys laden with sacks of gold and gems filling her head.

Wulfrid approaches your assembled party with a broad smile.

"Welcome all!" he says cheerily. "I trust this is your entire party?" he asks Slattery. "Shall we prepare food and rooms for you?"

Re: Respite in Dunnold

Not hearing Odhran's question amongst the cross conversations and reappearance of Wulfrid, he absentmindedly groped his increasingly light coin-purse. Fetcher made eye contact with their cheery host, giving him a subtle and stern shake of the head to indicate he didn't intend to partake in the man's queries. Fetch cast eyes around, reading the rest of the party. He was both excited and nervous of how his life would proceed from this moment.

Slattery looks around, then nods.

"I think this is everyone who's coming," he tells Wulfrid.  "Food definitely, we'll get back to you on the rooms."

Once Wulfrid is gone, Slattery turns to everyone else.

"Rooms are 5 gold a night, the common area is 5 silver," he quickly recaps.  "I wasn't sure where our finances were.  We certainly don't want a private room each, but maybe we could all fit into one?"

"We'll definitely need some privacy for learning spells," he says, his voice lowered.

"Two rooms." The fairy says pointedly "Us girls need our privacy."
She pauses and looks around "Actually where are Kerby Gungy and Ellsy? I heard Gungy say something about visiting ancenstral dwarven lands to Kerby and Ellsy wanted to know if dwarf girls have beards, but I didnt think they'd wander off without telling us."

After Wulfrid was gone, Odhran asked Fetcher, "so tell us about yourself."

Re: Respite in Dunnold

"I must confess my story is one of little consequence, however the bulk of it has yet to be written." Fetch sipped a draw from his water cup while choosing his next words,
"Supposing you can consider me a sell-sword, as I grew to a man in the charge of a mercenary company I had served since childhood. Though I may lack for experience, I believe I hold gains in dedicated training and determination"

Inwardly he hoped they would all live long enough to more deeply share their stories in detail, perhaps under warm fire light with many shared adventures behind them.

Wulfrid returns with two servers who bring each of you a plate with meat, cooked vegetables, and a small loaf of bread. He also brings a pitcher of ale and another of wine. He mentions adding the charge to your tab and happily agrees to prepare two private room for as many night as you require. Morning meals are provided free of charge to his guests.

Re: Respite in Dunnold

You spend the next two days resting and recovering at the Grey Minstrel Inn.

A visit to Myla the Jeweler nets you 100 gp from the emerald you recovered from the rock grub and a total of 500 gp from the 15 gemstones from the chest.

This leaves you with a total 1832 gp and 1010 sp (minus Slattery's healing and the Poor Baby spell).

Melissa, Odhran, Thea, and Slattery spend hours locked in their private rooms trying to teach each other their newfound magic. Careful watch is kept for agents of the Wizard's Guild.

You also spend time visiting the various merchants of Dunnold in search of better weapons and armor and new equipment.

OOC: A few points:

1) Let me know if you plan to purchase any more spells from the Wizard's Guild.

2) If using Teacher, indicate who is teaching what to whom and the student should make the appropriate Saving Rolls on IQ. Remember that each character can learn two new spells per day.

3) Let me know of any other purchases that are being made. Refer to the House Rules thread for prices on weapons, armor, and equipment. If there is something not on the list you'd like, let me know.

Re: Respite in Dunnold

Slattery wants to purchase pitons (more for holding doors shut than climbing), a piton hammer, and lockpicks.

He also failed to learn TTYF with the first instructor: 22:06, Today: Slattery rolled 4 with the Tunnels & Trolls, Saving Throws system.

There's a reason why he got kicked out of the Mages Guild!

Re: Respite in Dunnold

AFAIK, Melissa is teaching PoorBaby to Odhran and Thea, Thea is teaching TTYF to Slattery.

One thing Melissa wants to do in town is visit an Apothecary and find out about the poison used on the needle fragment she salvaged, ie how deadly is it from a single pinprick, and how much does a small vial of it and some three inch needles cost?

We also need to decide amongst us how long we intend to stay at the Dungeon next visit and buy provisions accordingly

Re: Respite in Dunnold

Slattery is able to find 10 pitons, a piton hammer, and a nice set of lock picks from the general store for 3420 gp.

Slattery fails to learn TTYF from Thea (4 AP). He can try again from both Odhran and Melissa, but remember he can only try to learn a spell twice per day.

Melissa visits Larkspur the Leech to learn about the poison on the needle. He tells her that is spider venom which can cause paralysis or at least slowed reflexes. He has something similar that he could sell her for 100 gp. This would be enough to apply to 20 darts.

Odhran succeeds in learning Poor Baby (20 AP) from Melissa.

Thea failed to learn Poor Baby (10 AP), but can try again from Odhran.

OOC: Edited since Slattery already had a hammer and pitons in his possession.

Do we want to make a list of the rations and such that we will need?

Sadly, try as he might, Slattery fails to learn TTYF from any of the wizards (14 AP more though).

Slattery can try to learn one more spell over the two days of rest. Of course, you could hang out in Dunnold longer.

Melissa thanks Larkspur for the information and makes slightly vaugue promises to return should their next delve bring them fortune.
She returns to the party looking thoughtful, thinking about a good method to deliver a poison dart or needle to her intended target without getting into melee range.

Melissa could purchase blowgun with 20 darts for 50 gp. The darts would deal no damage, but could deliver a toxin with a successful hit.

Re: Respite in Dunnold

The next morning, funds in hand, Thea will make her way to the small building that acts as the official representation of the Wizard's Guild in the village of Dunnold.  Upon entering, she will speak to whichever representative is present to try to schedule a time to learn the Omnipotent Eye spell.
