A Meeting of Heroes
Kailute pulls together a meeting of the four members of HOW, inc. to discuss recent events on the boat.
"I don't know exactly what was going on with those two halflings, but I hear rumor that they claimed to have been hired by the Heroes of Waymeet, or more specifically, Quillro, to take over the ship. I know he is hiding them both in the wagon, so I give these rumors more credence than I otherwise would. Taking over this ship is a bad idea. First, we don't have any regular business on the water, and we have lots of things to do on land. Second, we have no one loyal to captain the ship in our absence. Third, if the Heroes backstab someone we've entered into contract with, it will damage our reputation and make it harder to find people to do business with us. I don't necessarily care about maintaining our reputation in the long-run, but if we are going to sacrifice it, let's do it for something big."
"Quillro, I get the call of the sea, and having regular access to a boat may be helpful, particularly if we get into the shipping and smuggling business as Fyrnlocke wants. Here is my proposal. Let's make it through the rest of this triip with minimal drama and put aside any ideas about taking it over. Next, we reach out to Polyard and tell him to watch for a good ship to take over in spring. Something that he could never think of taking over himself. A Zhent man o'war or ship of the line. Before taking it over, we make a deal with him. Something like, he staffs and dispatches the ship. We split all money made 50/50, but he can charge 75% of repairs and maintenance to our half. Under normal circumstance this may leave him and his crew earning a bit less than they would under normal circumstances, but that's bc he will keep an eye out for big game. A treasure ship or the like. Again, something he would never consider taking himself. Then we come aboard and help him take down a giant score once or twice a year. He and his crew will be better off than he would be if he weren't splitting the money with us."
"Maybe we fill his head with the idea that we can help him build a little fleet, with the ships we help him take being split 50/50. Maybe we make him the pirate king of the Moonsea if he wants. I'm flexible."
"The other thing we will need is sea aliases. If we are going to be pirates, we may not want to be Heroes as well. Maybe smart for the two of you to work on some disguises, be they magical or otherwise. For once, that all you folk think half-orcs look the same will be a good enough disguise for me."
If we do go this way, one thing we could do is make second characters who are pirates on our new boat for some mini-adventures.
