Delving Deeper

You open the door into a 30' x 20' room.  Unlike most in the dungeon, this one is lit, with light shining in the center of the 15' high ceiling.  The walls here are plastered, and feature ibis heads - sixteen in total, each staring at the center of the room.  A thick layer of dust covers the floor, and you spot two sets of small footprints, likely those of a halfling or gnome.  One set leads south, out of the room's sole doorless exit, and the other leads west, back the way you came.

On the north wall is a set of bronze double doors, elaborately carved with images of ibises, baboons, human skulls, scrolls, and strange objects you can't identify.  The right door contains a large keyhole; based on its size the corresponding key must be very large, at least 8 inches long and an inch thick.

Sil'qian pulls the door open, and cautiously enters the room. He glances at the light in the ceiling, "Must be Continual Light," he remarks.

He circles the room, taking in the ornate carving on the bronze doors, and the ibis heads on the walls.

"Would that rod from the stirge nest fit in that keyhole?"

I think Brian had the rod, I assume he is he still with us.

Without approaching them, Ati looks carefully at each ibis head.  Are they all the same?

Brian produces the rod, but it's too big for the hole.

The ibis heads appear to be the same, except for their eyes.  While they're all the same color (sapphire blue), their gazes are at slightly different angles, all directed toward the center of the room.

Having recovered his senses as much as was possible in the presence of such maidenly pulchritude, Lenny follows the paths of the sixteen Ibis eyes which converge at the center of the room, currently empty.

"I don't think they're waiting for one of us to pose for them," he offers.

Thertryd winces as the light hits her eyes, but then they adjust.  She, too, follows the gaze of the ibises to the center of the room.  True to a dwarf who has never seen an ibis before, and does not know much of birds, she says, "Strange birds... never seen their type before.  Do they like posing?"

Thertryd:
Strange birds... never seen their type before.

"All I know is that they are ibises, and they are a symbol of Thoth.

Shall we follow these footprints?"

I think this is the new marching order, for now:
  Sil'qian
Tybalt  Ati
    Nob
Brian   Qadar
Lenny   Thertryd

Walker noted to direction which the eyes of the ibises seemed to be looking, and went there, trying to figure out if there was a pressure plate or other means of activating... something. "Perhaps it's just for decoration," he said, but didn't believe it. Someone had taken the time to make this art in this fashion, there must be a reason!

OOC: If Walker doesn't notice anything obvious, he'll follow Silk.

The hallway leading south out of the ibis room extends 40' in total and ends in another door.  After checking this door, Sil opens it to reveal a small room.

The footprints you saw earlier are present her as well, leading through both doors.  The most noticeable thing in the room, though, is a humanoid skeleton, which is staked to the wall in the eastern niche.  It seems to be in fair shape but is all bone - it has no flesh or even any clothing.

"I find the ibis heads more decorative," Sil'qian notes dryly, as he glances at the skeleton attached to wall.

Seeing the footprints continue to the south, he begins examining the door, allowing the others time to investigate the skeleton if they wish.

Skeleton staked to the wall. That's not worrisome at all!  :-)
