Re: Out of Character Chat, Part 2

Now the party is heading back to base, should I be creating Munwin's successor, provisionally his kinsdwarf Thunwin, yet another cleric?

Re: Out of Character Chat, Part 2

I think we players are all eager to wipe out the Clan of the Cave Bear.

Let's OOC as follows as DM allows:
--14 days in town
--Buy additional supplies (torches, oil, and what not)
--Return to within sight of the cave, make sure all is quiet

Walker, Sil, and Vale assume a firing position.
Ati, Lenny, *New Cleric*, and Linkboy toss flasks and then lit torches into the cave.
Any ideas on generating extra smoke to drive them out?

Fingers crossed, massacre ensues, aided by sleep and bless.

Don't forget the cave is up a cliff, can't remember how far but 10s of feet.

Re: Out of Character Chat, Part 2

It's 20'.

As an equivalent, a club can be thrown with a range increment of 10', but there is no target in this case, so it would seem to be well within easy tossing/throwing range.

Is two weeks long enough for my guy to heal?

Re: Out of Character Chat, Part 2

Yes, a PC heals 1 hp per day of rest. If they have a con bonus to healing then that is added...after a week, I think.

So for Lenny it would be 7 hps for the first seven days and then 2 the following day, bringing him back to full on the 8th day.

I was thinking of arrows though, i.e. 20' up cavern makes line of sight problematic

Re: Out of Character Chat, Part 2

I think you would have clean line of sight for any cavemen on the ledge.

That's why I'm thinking of the smoke -- to drive them out of the cavern. Maybe collect a few faggots as well. If they're damp, I think they produce more smoke.

A new dwarven cleric would also accelerate the healing.

Re: Out of Character Chat, Part 2

There's probably a back way in. Would be worth some recon...

I remember back in the early days of the internet, an ever-growing list of homebrew spells could be found. There was a flying roasted pig spell that always made me chuckle. Maybe we could set a trap to lure some of them out?

Mmm... roasted pig!

Re: Out of Character Chat, Part 2

DM said there were no exits from the cavern save for cavemouth. Besides...we want to draw them out rather than invade their cave again. As they fling themselves off the cliff, we pepper them with arrows. They're sub-humans; I know we can outwit them (on most days).

I think the way to lure them out would be to fill their cave with smoke -- as amusing as staging a pig roast might be.

Re: Out of Character Chat, Part 2

Lenny: are the costs in the IC post for Sil'qian and Lenny together, or each?

-28 GP for a room for two weeks at the Yellow Cloak
-5 GP 6 SP for two weeks of meals for Sil and Lenny

I will subtract Sil'qian's share, no point in lenny having to subsidise the elf too!

A levitate spell would be choice! Float up 20 feet and let loose with the arrows. But, of course, Sil'qian's spellbook sucks!

But at the cost of not having Sleep, he could take Unseen Servant which could carry 20# of oil flasks or faggots and drop them at the cave mouth; lasts for an hour!

In reply to Sil'qian Nightwind (msg # 919):

Lenny covered the cost of Sil's convalescence -- don't subtract it from your sheet.

I think acquiring a scroll of levitate is a capital suggestion if one's available. It would run, at a minimum, 600 GP as it's a 2nd level spell. If we have the coin, I think we should do this. Lenny could donate an easy 100 GP. Walker, with his bow specialization, would be the best candidate.

Looks like the Dice Roller smiled upon the new Munwin. Was that first 4d6 a 16, 17, or an 18?

Re: Out of Character Chat, Part 2

17 for wisdom, of course, leaving another 17 and a 16 for the exceptional stats.
17 for dex or str, prob dex for the AC adjustment. I think -3 to AC is better than +1 to hit and damage. Besides you're primarily a caster.
16 for con which gets bumped to 17 but your HP bonus is capped at 2 as a cleric.

So I do like 17 wis, 17 dex (max for dwarves!), and a 16 con. That'll give you 10 hps at first level and 0 AC in banded mail and shield. I'm sure we can afford that.

Re: Out of Character Chat, Part 2

Sil'qian has 147 gold on him, and another 200 in the bank.

600 gold might be steep for a scroll, what is the cost/benefit? Was there anything in the cave that we might find worth 600 gold? They were cavemen after all.

I'm telling ya, a few hogs roasting on spits outside the entrance will do the trick.

Also, we could hire some archers/grunts to help out. Would be cheaper than spending all our gold on one scroll...

Agree that it's too much to spend. A nearby tree or two would be chaeper (and possibly more stable)

Re: Out of Character Chat, Part 2

Yes, they are mere cavemen but they are a clan of such, living in a lair of such. Therefore we have reasonable estimation of some treasure (hunting trophies, animal and otherwise). Remember the stirge nest?

A levitated Walker could fire with near impunity into the cavern, but we can dismiss that idea as too dear. And maybe there is a tree nearby that would suit our purposes.

A longbow man would run 79 GP for equipment + another 8 GP for a month's service -- this time too dear for the benefit. I could see springing for a 2nd linkboy to help toss torches and flasks. That would enable one of the fighters to stand guard.

Re: Out of Character Chat, Part 2

What happens when the tree is overrun? Not saying I don't have confidence in my team, but those cavemen hit pretty hard! I agree, levitation would be awesome, and Walker could be out of range of any of their stone throws or whatever ranged attacks. I just think that it's a lot of gold to spend. What level spell is Levitate? Could one of our team buy it an learn it?

Anyway, maybe we can ask around and see if there are others already accoutered that we could hire...?
