Re: Chapter 1: North Blue

"Always try to save some poor soul. One of these days that might come back to bite us." Iggy quietly shifted back to his human form and retreated to the helm. He wasn't too put out by the Nezha's actions, a captain with too much kindness was preferable to what he had faced before becoming a pirate. So Iggy was prepared to put up with a fair share of eccentricities.

Re: Chapter 1: North Blue

"Dragonslayers! Deploy fire suppression teams and medics!" Nezha orders, "It seems we clashed with one of the only honorable captains left in the Navy."

'You heard me! Cut those men loose and help them save their ship!" he bellows as his crew hesitate confused, "Captain Rake, you must understand what a rare breed you are in a Navy full of backstabbing villains like my other brother. There is no way for me to know that and it is your duty to uphold the law, so our fight was unavoidable."

The captains watch their crews, eyeing each other warily, work together, "I will excise the cancer of the World Nobles and all those like them. The world after will need men like you to uphold a law under which all are equal and to which no one will be immune. No gods and no slaves."

”I don’t understand,” said Francis. ”Jinzha hunts you. He failed to kill you. You survived somehow. What happened? Why are you letting me go? How do you know that I stand for justice and not others you attack?”

Re: Chapter 1: North Blue

"I can just tell. Chalk it up to the fact that I too know what an honorable man my brother Jinzha is and the respect you pay his name tells me all I need to know about you." Nezha says, "I have eaten the Inku Inku no Mi. These shifting tattoos are the same as my grandfather and all the others of the Irezumi clan to bear it's powers before us. Eating it saved my life before the damage of Jinzha's bullet could kill me."

"To your question, it seems we will need to employ more cautious tactics to determine who we are dealing with before we commit so thoroughly to their destruction." Nezha says, "Today was almost a great tragedy and I do not plan to perpetrate such upon those who truly seek to protect and serve."

As the fires subside and the wounded are saved and stabilized the Dragonslayers retreat back to their ship. Only then does Nezha pull out Francis D. Rake's saber from his chest and hand it back to him, "You'll need a repairs before you head in to the Grand Line, but I am sure we will see each other again. When you see Jinzha tell him Nezha says, Nice Shot!"

Chapter 1: North Blue

Captain Francis was so confused and overwhelmed by everything that he just stood there, brow furrowed, trying to process. He finally sat down, hand to his head, as the pirates which nearly took them all out now tended to their wounds, and put out the fires below deck.

Everyone give me an idea of how you’re helping. I assume Taro is doctoring, but I’m sure he has more to add than just that.

Chapter 1: North Blue

Iggy rolled his eyes. "I just got changed... and it looks like such a nice fire..." Soon there were wings as he began to grow in shape and mass. He jumped into the air and began to gain altitude as he flew over and then past the navy ship. "Brace yourselves!" He roared. "There is going to be a bump!" once he judged his angle and distance were sufficient, he banked and raced back at the ship in a steep dive. He slammed into what was left of the mast and rigging, and the ship rolled to the side, dunking Taro's hole below the water line before the ship righted itself. That brief moment was enough for a significant amount of water to pour into the hold, dosing the flames. Still clinging to the rigging, Iggy looked out over the water. "Man... MEN overboard!"

Chapter 1: North Blue

Taro pulled-up his pants and cleaned himself before he exited the stall. As he had begun to return to his duties, he felt immense pain stretching from his right shoulder to his left hip. The pain he embraced was only to be rivaled by the hellish sensation felt from the effect of those who act but only make mention of said action after it has been already discovered by others. Taro retreated to his operating room as quickly as he could.

While entering his chamber, he laid upon his own operating table, which was still covered in blood and bile. The good Doctor knew he sustained grievous wounds from shooting himself from a canon into the marine’s ship, so he strapped himself to the rickety table, allowing only his shaky, surgical hand to stay boundless.

Taro reached into the upper pocket of his dingy lab coat and retrieved Asmodeus. Taro raised the scalpel and inspected the grim glow to ensure its bloodlust was still infused. Taro smiled, though in pain, licked his lips, and said, “It’s time, my friend, to fulfill your part of the bargain. I have a special gift for you - my blood.”

Taro plunged the scalpel into his shoulder and drug the rusty, dark blade across his still fresh wound all the way to his abdomen, exposing his innards. Blood fanned across the room as Taro agonized in pain. “Feast,” he screamed, “and may your sanguine intoxication revitalize my body!”

Though blood burst forth as immense as a raging waterfall, the blood flow began to narrow from a wide spray to a rope-like consistency that firmly connected to Asmodeus. As quick as Taro’s life source departed from him, it returned even faster. The normal red blood that left Taro transferred to Asmodeus, and as he returned the blood to Dr. Bonnet’s body, deathly energies encompassed the Doctor’s gaping wound to heal the various internal injuries.

Chapter 1: North Blue

Francis clenched his jaw. He was shaking.

”Why . . . How . . . You are pirates! Why are you helping us! How are you not destroying us! What is this respect for Jinzha? I don’t . . . I can’t . . . MY WORLD IS COLLAPSING AROUND ME! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO NOW!”

He grabbed Nezha by the shoulders and shook him violently, and as he cried out, there was a sudden change in the air. Everyone’s attention turned to the young captain Rake. His rage boiled over, and a wave of energy surged out from him.

”WHYYYY!!!!!!”

The eyes of his crew went white, and the fell limp and collapsed.

Chapter 1: North Blue

The rigging was still swaying when Iggy was distracted by the navy captain's outcry. The poor guy seemed to have a ridged mind. He was going to need to be more flexible in this world. There was too many things subject to change, too many new and exciting things to discover, too many-- A crushing mental weight disrupted Iggy's contemplation. He tried to fight back, to push it back, but in a moment all reason and thoughts were driven from him. He couldn't think of a reason to resist, and his mind faded to black as he lost his grip on the rigging and plummeted to the deck.

Chapter 1: North Blue

Nezha's eyes widen as Captain Rake's unwittingly blasts nearly everyone unconscious with force of his raw emotions. He catches Francis by the shoulders and steadies him, "Francis, I know exactly how you feel. I thought I would use my time in the Navy to help people before I found out that the Celestial Dragons, wicked and depraved, see to the advancement of officers who enable their horrible vices."

"Now you're seeing that not all pirates are self-serving and evil." Nezha and his tattoos turn thoughtful, "And you've reminded me that just because many of the Navy are self-serving and evil, doesn't mean all are. I wasn't, Jinzha isn't, and you're not either."

"Come with me to our sick bay. Don't worry, our crews will wake up in a little while." Nezha says stepping over unconscious Dragonslayers and Navy alike, "I know you're dealing with a lot, but perhaps you can help me with someone."

Will-2 success!

"That was Navy Captain Francis D. Rake; one of the only good ones there are. We were fighting but now we're not; the situation is still under development." Captain Nezha says introducing them to one another, "Captain Rake, this is who I was talking about. We fished Lieutenant Harambe out and patched him up after our last encounter with the Navy, which was only halfway noble considering we were the ones who wounded him. However, his memories are gone, so neither of us is sure what to do with the other."

Francis wobbled, barley able to stand. He collapsed to his knees and looked up apathetically. Then he blinked and his face lifted.

”Lieutenant Luther Harambe?”

He rose and came to the edge of the ship.

”I apologize, captain, but I don’t remember you, or much of anything for that matter.”

”I will take him,” said Francis, looking to Nezha. ”If he comes with me, I will have to deliver him to my superiors. If he stays with you, I will have to report it to my superiors. I’m not sure which would be a better outcome for him, or for the future of the Navy.”

"If he does go with you, I must ask that you do everything in your power, even enlisting the aid of Jinzha, to keep him under your command." Nezha asks, "Lieutenant Harambe will be a powerful force for whoever be serves under and you would be an excellent mentor I'm certain."

"What I will not do is allow either one of us decide his fate for him." Nezha says, "He will decide where he goes, while he is still aboard my ship he has that freedom. What do you think Lieutenant?"

Chapter 1: North Blue

“Sadly, I do not know if Jinzha will be able to help. He’s got no more actual authority than I do now, and what additional pull he has is only with certain people. Whichever superior officers I encounter will be making the decision, and I cannot guarantee that my suggestions will be taken into consideration. But I will do everything in my power regardless. There’s just a point where it’s out of my hands.”

”Hmmmmm.” Harambe pondered. ”This is a difficult choice for me as well. I will take whatever advice you have, captain Irezumi.”

Chapter 1: North Blue

A deep and ominous roar began to emanate from the naval vessel. It was a grinding sound that increased and subsided in a consistent pattern. The ship trembled with every pulse of the sound, and seemed to sigh with relief during the moments of stillness. Those who were still awake looked around in apprehension, worried that the ship itself might be disintegrating.

Re: Chapter 1: North Blue

Nezha thinks about the question for a long time. He considers all the possibilities, of all the different futures that Harambe has to choose from. He thinks what he would choose for the Lieutenant and what the old Lieutenant chose for himself before meeting the Dragonslayers. Finally he answers, "Lieutenant Harambe, as much as I would love to add you to my own crew I feel that it would be most true to who you were if you returned with Captain Rake."

"You have seen who we are and how we operate and you know what I've told you of how the Navy normally operates." he says, "I am also releasing you into the command and care of a Navy Captain who does not operate that way at all."

"You have an impossibly rare opportunity to restart your life in any shape you choose and I hope you will choose to be good and to help people." Nezha says, "I would recommend you request to remain under Captain Rake's command, if at all possible for as long as possible, he will be an excellent mentor because he's had an excellent mentor."

Re: Chapter 1: North Blue

Harambe nodded to Nezha in respect, then turned to the rest of the crew.

”Thank you all for accepting me as I am. Now I must go to see who I really am.”

He threw off the tattered shirt he’d been wearing, exposing his neck and chest. His spine from the base of his skull to halfway down his back was a series of tiny protruding metallic cylinders. Right in the center of his chest, where his sternum should have been, was a metallic box, somehow fused with the flesh at the edges of his rib cage. The box was square, with a stylized H that glowed with a whitish blue, inner light that seemed to vibrate.

Harambe transformed into a massive gorilla and leapt across to the Navy ship, then transformed back into human form.

”Farewell for now, Dragonslayers. We shall meet again.”

”I will do my best to keep him from the worst scrutiny.”

Francis snapped to attention, saluting captain Irezumi.

”I swear it!”

The remnants of the crew, and Harambe, joined the captain in his salute, screaming their affirmation.

Chapter 1: North Blue

The Dragonslayers began to make their way up Reverse Mountain. An intense storm was raging atop the mountain, and the temperature plummeted rapidly as their ship lurched in the current upward. The winds howled, huge swells billowing and crashing against the ship and against the mountain walls, threatening to smash the ship into the mountain!

Crazy difficult to steer! Everyone pick two skills to focus on:
  • Shiphandling - Only one person can roll. This is the controlling skill.
  • Navigation - Only one person can roll. Add half your margin of success to the helmsman’s Shiphandling (minimum +1).
  • Meteorology - Only one person can roll. Add half your margin of success to the helmsman’s Shiphandling (minimum +1).
  • Seamanship - Any number can roll. Add half your margin of success to the helmsman’s Shiphandling (minimum +1).

Viola and Kaminari pitch in around the ship leading the crew in keeping the ship up to best speed and maneuverability.

Shiphandling success by 9!
Kaminari success by 5, so +2 to Nezha's Shiphandling.

Chapter 1: North Blue

Iggy woke with a start. He was in a dark place, and he had the faint lingering essence of a dream. He tried to remember the dream, but like so many dreams, the memory was just out of reach. "Wait a minute... where the heck am I?" He stared ahead, trying to get his bearings. He then caught a glimpse of some smoldering embers. It all came to him. Embers, flames, soaring into the rigging, yelling, then darkness. He was in the hold, or at least his head was. He couldn't actually see his hands. He felt around and realized the truth. His head was sticking through the deck. He let out a roar and pushed against the planking, but it was no use. He was stuck fast. "ARRRRRRG, LET GO OF ME!!!" He continued to struggle for some time before he heard a timid voice. "Excuse me Mr. Wanna Sir, but what if you changed back to a human, you'd be smaller..." The roaring and clawing stopped and the dragon shimmered away. Sheepishly Iggy pulled his human head from the deck. "Thank you Timmy, lets head back to the ship. By the way, what did I miss?"

"AY AY CAP'N!" Roared Iggy as he turned over the helm to Irezumi. He quickly turned back into the dragon and took to the air. "Cap'n! Stay true to the center! VIOLA! Furl the sails! We'll ride the current and ignore the crossbreeze!"

The ship lurched hard, pulling left, then right, then harder left, then harder right. The wall of the bank was dangerously close, but the Dragonslayers kept control. The temperature plummeted even more quickly as they shot up the mountain. Torrential downpour instantly turning into a blizzard. As they reached the top, they needed to avoid going to quickly, or they might shoot completely out of the water, or land so hard that something could break!

You made step 1! Now step 2! Make it over the top in one piece!
