Luis, I apologize if I offended your Fae sensibilities. I appreciate the artistry of fine dining - I look forward to enjoying your creations at some point.

Well, there was some discussion of pooling points? If we are doing that what do we want to do? I mean other than provide ourselves with an army of enchanted bikers to spice up the weekends?

I do enjoy a spicy weekend.

Are we talking about the same thing?

Know what? Doesn't matter.

Re: OOC Chat

I don' think I've ever eaten someone's weekend. Seems like something you could steal from someone spice up with a little adventure utterly devour their time and leave them a little more inspired than they were on Friday.

Most natural easy choices
HoldingSeems like the classic answer. Several of us seem hospitality oriented, though Annie is more towards the classy
DreamersAnother solid communal resource, would probably be some sort of troupe or artist colony at that point
RetinueSo this is your biker gang idea. Not much against though would be an unnatural choice for Annie
ContactsVery similar but now a spy network
ResourcesSimilar but now a highly successful mega-corporation
unusual potentially interesting choices
Chimera (Creature)You know you pet dragon, Pecos Bill's tornado, a demigod w/e
Chimera (Items)Factory of dreams?
MentorProfessor-X, Nick Fury?
RemembranceSuppose in a past life we were somebody important as a group like Camelot
TreasuresLegendary artifact
Probably problematic choices
TitleSo we're the high council that rules the kingdom?

Re: OOC Chat

Since I have been quietly cobbling myself together into existence,  I just wanted to say hello~

The last time I played Changeling I was a Wizened, so this is an interesting little adventure of trying something new and devouring the lore in this book.

I cannot join in the Motley adventure I think, but in classic Autumn fashion, there are these lines of social structure that are easily neglected for a nice time that I'm sure someone will complain at her about.

Well if Henry wants to make his pub a Holding, that would be a possibility. I can park my food truck anywhere and am not opposed to having a brick and mortar kitchen to work out of.

I certainly see possibilities for dreamers both as clientele as well as possibly those coming in for brewing or cooking lessons. And that is a resource that is certainly better with combined points.

As for Retinue and Contacts, I actually favor Retinue for staff as opposed to an army, but both options have value.

I think Contacts as a spy network given several our social orientations would be excellent, representing those we have cultivated to come in and talk about their woes. Possibly better than Retinue.

As far as resources that could work, not really feeling it one way or the other.

The one I love the least is titles, I think any heavy investment in that gets problematic quickly, but am open to differing opinions.

What do you think Henry, any of this interest you?

Re: OOC Chat

I was hoping that our GM would also weigh in on what they are thinking as to how we all fit into the world.

My initial thought was that Henry was going be part of the existing Seelie Freehold, and have the bar as a mundane location but I'm open to making the bar a holding. I'm also open to ditching the bar entirely and just have Henry hanging around the Court as an advisor of some sort.

Totally up to each of you as characters to be part of either the Seelie or Unseelie Freehold. One of the major conflict points will be Seelie vs Unseelie.

Re: OOC Chat

To that end, I see Henry as part of the existing Seelie Freehold. He wants to be an advisor and represent the commoner viewpoint. He thinks his age and experience (and past as both an Unseelie and now a Seelie) give him a unique perspective on things.

Of course others may see him as an old, over the hill, deluded pacifist who is out of touch with things *chuckle*

Re: OOC Chat

Is Luis Seelie or Unseelie?

Annabelle is Seelie but kind of doing this rechilding thing and she's a redcap so that might not be the most reliable of affiliations.

Holding vs not I've got no strong opinions on but there is an interesting scenario where Henry and Luis through cross-faction connections maintain an uneasy neutral meeting ground which might be a spark of a holding in that liminal space between factions where enemies can sit down across a dinner plate and negotiate. Ie not neutral in the avoid conflict sense but neutral as in at the center of conflict where peoples can meet.

Looking at google I can up with a 50 guest restaurant with 2 shifts needs about 22 employees so Retinue would probably only be senior staff unless someone wants to go crazy. Like a bare bones approach would be Resources 3; Retinue 2.

Annie's aunt Starlightmelody Rockstar, is a kinain and the sort who has her name legally changed to Starlightmelody Rockstar. So probably not the most fiscally responsible choice to help run a bar but she is Redcap kinain so there's that.

I could contribute 3 (or 4 with her aunt) to making the bar concept work at which point you'd effectively gain Annie as a bit of a ward/employee and solve my what's her mortal life like. In those terms she's a business/poli-sci major and university who put her degree on hold for a bit taking it slow finishing her degree.

Re: OOC Chat

Well I was thinking the bar was kinda small- like an English pub with maybe 10-15 tables max and a decent sized bar. The menu is like 10 items...all pub food.

Re: OOC Chat

Right so that's 30-60 guests so Chef and maybe 2 cooks and 2 washers/bus 1 manager 1 bartender 1 host/head waiter and 3 other waiters. So 11 people on shift at any time. 10a-7p shift and then an 7p-4a would let you operate optimistically 11a-3a. That's pretty bare bones.

Following the progression you'd need about 7 dots to make everyone retinue, but my suggestion is maybe only the chef, manager, bartender, and host on any given shift is aware, which is 5 (since three players can take such positions) which would be 3 dots.

Re: OOC Chat

No...more like one bartender, one cook, maybe a second cook. We’re talking a family business sized operation, not a commercial restaurant.

Re: OOC Chat

22 employees is that small family operation. With just a chef and a bartender the chef and bartender are going to be spending more than half of their time washing dishes and if a guest has concerns that need attending to you shut down operations entirely until it's resolved. You could have two tables that way but you'd feel short staffed. You can run a bed-and-breakfast that way or have fixed meal times so the chef has time between meals to do the dishes but then rather than the expected which is turning over a table 2-3 times a shift.
The small family restaurant model I gave you should serve about 200-300 "meals" per day.
I know I a fairly proficient amateur home-chef can knock out a thanksgiving feast for about 50 as my upper limit and that'll damn near kill me if I have to do it every single day. That's at most 3 tables. Backing that off to sane levels you'd be able to do 2 tables, you could have 12 physical tables but you wouldn't be able to turn them over fast enough. There might be a space to do something like this if you could charge celebrity rates but realistically 11 employees a shift is a comfortable baseline minimum and since you actually will want to do 14 shifts (weekends) and social norms only allow someone to work 5 per week you really want 33 people.

This of course ignores things like having a boggan with the right merit working 9 shifts effectively covering 27 shifts the work of 5.2 people but they could only do that working back-staff. Or like some sort of magical kitchen that helps with the cooking.

What I'd suggest is 4 resources which covers owning a nice small restaurant/bar such as a celebrity chef might personally run and 4 retinue which means 6 employees are fully in the know. This means you could have a front room which could service maybe 42 guests at a time, and then you'd have a private VIP dining room for changeling business. 6+3 9 people in the know means you could always have 3 people in the know on duty or shift to cover entertaining a duke or something.

I'll point out if we're fine with Annie and her aunt being on the wait staff with the three freebies I was planning on tossing at this if that'd be 4/8 dots from me, if each of you were willing to put forward 3 dots we could not only do this but have 2 extra dots to spend on contacts or making it a holding.

I don't see my academic contacts dot being appropriate to share unless it's on campus of a university or something.

Re: OOC Chat

Well, I wasn't imagining that the pub would employee 22 employees. I was thinking of Henry and at most 3-4 others. I have been to many a family run pub/restaurant in my travels and I was patterning the Ram's head after those. Heck, I remember a small restaurant in Florence Italy that was run by a guy and his wife - no other staff at all. The Rams Head is first and foremost a bar, with a small selection of food served because people drinking want food.

I don't want the pub to have a celebrity chef - just good drinks and a small selection of quality food. A hidden gem that those in the know frequent because of the quality and prices.

Re: OOC Chat

Luis' short concept included the name of a celebrity chef. Which is why I was thinking bar owner plus gormet chef is restraunt bar. Bar only would reduce the staff but I'm not sure how practical that is. If changeling stuff is going down and your 4 person bar has 3 player characters on staff you're shut down until they can get back. The restraunt bar could go a week with 90% of the staff still there no problem. It's big enough to host a big changeling event.

Re: OOC Chat

Our lovely local Balor has suggested an idea that I would like to implement. Everyone can submit any number of Bunks for "pre approval" That way you know, in the moment, how much your action will reduce the difficulty of your cantrip casting.

I would like players to focus on a cantrip which would qualify as a Level 1 Bunk, Level 2 Bunk, Level 3 Bunk, Level 4 Bunk and a Level 5 Bunk.

You may have multiple bunks that fall within the level one range if you choose.

Additionally, signature bunks have mean discussed. This would be a bunk that connects to the heart of your character (his or her thesis statement) so to speak.
Signature Bunks are Ranked from 1 to 5 but their modifier is 1 higher than their level. For example, a level 1 Signature bunk would provide a -2 modifier to cantrip casting while a level 5 signature bunk would provide a -6 modifier to casting. Signature bunks unlike other bunks are things that your character can do over and over without a diminishing return.

A pooka-wolf who huffs and puffs for example before using Hopscotch to move items great distances.

Or even chimerical (or Autumn Realm) alchemy!

This is an opt-in system. You do not have to participate or can participate later my PMing the below:

    Level One: Bunks -2 Modifier
  • Huff and puff: Ties into how my character has an affinity/draws strength from the stories of blah blah blah.

The bar is just a narrative device that justifies Henry's resource level. I has mortal staff who keep the place running (and making money). I wasn't expecting it to be a commoner Freehold or anything. *shrug*
