In reply to Najewa (msg # 140):

Wraith:  reading the books do mention the lake and 1 mentions the island.   The description of the demons sends goosebumps up the arm.

What powers/abilities/weaknesses if any do the demons have?

In reply to Najewa (msg # 149):

The metal looks like an ordinary scythe. But with symbols on it. At first. You don't see the symbols.

If it wasn't magical. It would be a normal scythe (just old)

The demons in the book have the exact powers as the real demons do.  In fact. Its almost eerie how well he wrote about them.

The curator approachs the group   look its 11:00. My wife is starting to wonder what's going on.   I can't leave you in the museum.   Are you almost done here?

"We probably are. I'll discuss it with the others and we'll get out of your hair. My wife's really understanding about the hours I keep, I guess I'm not the only flexible one in our relationship, but I can understand how important it is for you to meet your spouse's expectations. Me and the misses talked about that in a couple's seminar when we first married."
Mal heads out to discuss with his new 'friends' the when, where, and what of their proceeding actions.

As they prepare to leave, Najewa asks "does one of you have a phone I can borrow? I think I'd best try to call Nervous Elk in Arizona, regardless of the time. I just need to make sure I call the Office phone, and not the one installed in the outhouse."

Re: Museum

Sentinel glances to Najewa, clearly about to ask something, but then Ginormica offers her phone and he instead shakes his head and decides the better of it.

"Let's meet on the West bank across from the island an hour before sundown," he suggests as he exists the museum, "Not on the island, mage'll likely have sentries or wards setup there.  You get there early just stay out of sight.  We go in we go together.  Any worries gettin there by then?"  He waits to hear if anyone thinks they'll have trouble.

Standing in the parking lot, beneath the yellow glow of the security light, he asks Najewa, "I know that scythe is a part of your history, but you know it's a bloodly wicked thing.  You planning on bringing it to the island?"

Mal stares a moment at the staff, then asks if he might take a picture of it with his phone.
"It may take a bit of practice, but we might be able to take a mock staff to the island. You never know when a little misdirection can help."

In reply to Sentinel (msg # 157):

Najewa glares at Sentinel. "Are you sure you've recovered from that knock in the head, white boy? I can run almost tirelessly, but it will take me several days to cross that distance on foot were I heading in that direction. But I have to return this scythe to Arizona first. My people originally were the guardians of the scythe until it was stolen from Indian Lands, and Nervous Elk would know the proper wards to bind and neutralize it. I will not go anywhere near that island until the scythe is safely out of the wizard's reach." She thanks Ginormica for the phone and starts dialing Nervous Elk's phone.

Najewa answers "Nervous Elk? It's  Ja--, it's Najewa. The Scythe of Manatupka. I have recovered it. That which was stolen from us long ago. An evil wizard seeks it to aid his conversion of thugs to demons. Have you a way to bind its powers and keep it safe?"

Re: Museum

In reply to Najewa (msg # 161):

Did you say the scythe of Manatupka?  That is one dangerous item.   I know our ancestors buried that deep in the ground.   I guess this means someone unburied it.  It takes days to bind its powers.  At least 2 days.   Then we have to bury it or get rid of it.

He takes a deep breath.    let me tell you a little history about the scythe.   During "the Trail of Tears", we had a shaman.  A good man at heart.   But his powers were no match for the white man.  White men had guns.  So, he decided to make something to destroy the white man.   Thus. The scythe was created.  But, we Indians knew it was too powerful.   8t wasn't worth the risk.

Now Najewa,  I know how much you dislike the white man.  Are you planning on using this.  I could teach you how to use it, if you want

oh, yes.  Which I'm glad.   Our ancestors were able to save our shaman.  But you will need the scythe to do it, and the person has to be willing to give up his power.

Najewa responds "yes, it seems I must learn how to use the scythe. But how? You are 4 thouusand miles away."

She pauses and looks at the others. "Can any of you find out who the transformed thugs were? Perhaps a recorded entreaty by their loved ones can convince them to live as humans once more."

"I suppose it is possible that there would be taletell remnants of their former selves still within their DNA, those markers might could be used to identify them. We would need a lab though and proper equipment. Alternatively if their fingerprints remained unaltered between forms that might also be used." Ginormica suggests.

Re: Museum

Najewa sighs. "No. Earth Master is not an option. I fear what he would do with the scythe would be far more dangerous. One moment, please." Najewa covers the phone and tells Ginormica "the gang member converted into Torch had a Sharks jacket on. The rest of you followed gang members to the warehouse , didn't you? Did it occur to you to note what the gang colors or names were?" Back on the phone, Najewa says "Nervous Elk, there is a man here who is far more practiced with magic than I am. He calls himself Sentinel. Would you be willing to speak to him? He might understand the rituals enough to instruct me in person."
