I'll be playing Nugkrim, a character on a darker path than some I imagine. Looking forward to meeting you all, whether on or off the sands of the arena.

In other news, I'm very happy with my stat-rolls...it's not quite three 18's, but it'll do for humble ol' me!

okay how do you set drop lowest on dice roller, because it says right there"drop Lowest" but when I roll it doesn't do so. I really liked my rolls then a 20 came up and i was like "waaait a minute .. ".

OK so the game is going to run in a somewhat freeform play style.  Plot hooks will be dropped to get your characters into adventures in and around the city. Arena matches will be arranged by my self or any Admins that come on board. I'll have a schedule of matches up soon. These are matches that can be bet on  by anyone other than prisoners. Open slots in the schedule will be matches that anyone can sign up for. Most matches will be conducted as team battles. Though one on one matches can be done as well.

If all goes well. I hope to officially start the game on Feb 28th 2022.

Could you pencil Isha in as "available" (in the 'throw him anywhere, it's an execution" sense)?

Should have most of my sheet done tonight, finally got my laptop back no need to just use my phone.

That would be the case for Ziz as well. Although she has already survived her execution, so she might be a little more free to pick?

What's our starting gear? As per Background/Class or "roll for gold"?

I rolled for gold (I don't like packs and stuff).

I took a pack. Got all the essentials and some fluff stuff to boot. :)

Thani's stuff got confiscated, so I didn't roll anything.

Rather than survive your execution someone else failed to do their job properly if you didn't stay dead.

Invest on training better executioners, or monetize the process via an arena? Roll WIS to spot capitalism.

I won't lie, I'm champing at the bit to get going a little! It's just new game excitement so I can contain myself for a few more days, but if GM doesn't mind, can we start making introductions and entrances?

I do have a question about the dice roller....

How do you roll 4d6 drop the lowest? I thought I had it set up right, but my first roll was 21. I tried the manual option and got the 21. Do I auto roll instead?

Same happened to me at first: type a 1 in that field next to Drop Lowest. That makes the roller drop the (1) lowest die.

So I'm pushing the start back by a week (to March 7th). Being sick killed put me further behind than I would have liked. I also have a candidate for an Admin position and I hope to bring them on board and get them up to date with stuff soon.

I have a rules question.  Could I use deception to disguise or distract from my spell casting?  I plan on combining actual magic with slight of hand and misdirection in Dancer's performances, and I think it works better if they blend smoothly together, so the audience can't tell which is trickery, and which is actual magic.

No, because then you'd disable counterspell.

To cast Counterspell you must see the character casting a spell, which can be interpreted both as seeing the character and the casting. So if the character is hiding, is invisible or is a sorcerer using subtle spell, you can't cast Counterspell.

Nevertheless, I usually judge that V and S components must be clear and evident, so you can't whisper an incantation or make small motions with hands and arms, unless the spell description says so. There are no rules, as far as I know, saying you can't pretend to be casting a spell, however. Spellcasters may know the difference, of course.

I think it would be perfectly within the rules to try to pretend to cast a spell when actually using non-magical misdirection to achieve an effect.

I don't think it would disable counterspell.  It's not like subtle spell.  The spell would still have verbal or somatic components; an insight check would reveal the distraction.  I'm trying to not be obvious.

And that's just it. It shouldn't take an insight roll to be able to counterspell.

Its simply a skill check verses a skill check, deception verses insight, so it's not an extra condition on the counterspell itself.

Much like someone walking in plain sight, no matter how sneaky you're being, you're still in plain sight. It's kind of an auto-fail situation, if you want to think of it that way. You might convince someone you're casting a spell with music or something or perhaps even that you're casting a spell other than the one you are or from a different tradition...but they'll still know your casting a spell either way.

That's my GM hat interpretation anyway. Our GM might have different thoughts.

There are already a couple  ways to interfere with counterspell.  This is something that can be overcome, so it's not broken.  But I do appreciate the irony that the concern is someone interfering with counterspell.

You're asking for a mechanical advantage that doesn't exist in the game, that only your character is built to benefit from. Why would you have problems with someone arguing against that? You can RP that and get your warm fuzzies about making a unique character without also gaining mechanical advantage.

That is always a big concern when games haven't started yet.

Some people don't logon on the weekend, so maybe they were doing real life things.

I applied for 2 other games, first one the Dm hasn't been on since februari 5th or so and the other hasn't been on since februari 18th. So those may be dead. No posts during the weekend is fine but I hope we get started soon.
