Outside the cave stretches a rocky desert as far as the eye can see.

Cole wondered what 'nest' Zeke could be talking about, as he bent down to pickup the fallen scroll. He unrolled it and tried to read it.

OOC
No Cole isn't crazy or stupid, he just never sensed vampires or saw them and no one has come out and said anything to him about vampires.

"For all the good the garlic did anyone here." Wolf finally spoke since meeting the others. His accent was strange, like a hybrid of two dialects from the far north and the locals. He addressed Joran, since his opinions carried over the misgivings of the others. "I'm Lieutenant Chaplain Wolf, CSA. We need to return for our vehicles before the sun goes down. After that, any bloodsuckers we missed will tear them open like tin cans."

"I should give a report to my superiors, but I will leave certain details about you out of it. The vampire is the bigger threat until we get out of here." He looked to Cole, with a strange cold look in his eye. "Did you field strip my unit? It is their service tags I will be needing for myself, but their weapons and armor don't do anyone any good just left in there. I'd rather someone willing to kill enemies of humanity, like you, be the heirs of their equipment."

Cade kept inside the mouth of the cave.

She noted the various warding herbs and purposefully avoided disturbing them.

She didn't remember a desert behind the building they went into, so she assumed they had been shifted somewhere.  Where, was the question.

So Cade took a look around to try and see if anything might suggest where they were in relation to where they had been.  Since magic was involved, even if she could just confirm they hadn't ended up on another world, that would be something.

She also tried to recon what time it was, since knowing how long until night fell was probably important.

Cole looked up from his reading of the scroll at the Coalition soldier that had spoken to him. He could have gone the rest of the day without speaking with either of the CS city slickers, truth be told but the man, Wolf he said his name was, had seen fit to speak to him in at least a civilized if not polite manner. According to The Code, that meant he had to respond in kind until or unless the man disrespected him or The Code. There was also the little fact that his momma had raised him with 'right proper manners' and even if'n she weren't here to know, he would do her proud and exchange civilized words with the man. "Don't mean I have to like um though," he thought as he suppressed the urge to spit before speaking to Lieutenant Chaplain Wolf of the high and mighty CSA.

"Can't say we did," he says to Wolf. "You and your boys showed up bout the time we found the bodies. Didn't have time to take anything even if we wanted to. Now then, what's all this about vampires?"

The scroll is a map, of sorts. It is worn by age and dust, but it seems to point to an oasis somewhere far from here, perhaps a day or two walking.

Meanwhile, Cade tries to get her bearings on where they are. It was night when they were in Dallas, and yet it is day here. Everything about this area suggests they are still on their home planet, though. Perhaps they slipped through time and space?

Her best hunch is that they are south of Dallas, maybe even south of Texas, which would place them somewhere in Mexico.

"Damn. I was hoping you had some information about the leeches. Apparently, we both learned all we were going to learn about them at knife point. The knowledge that they can die was a pleasant surprise." Those things didn't react right to silver, as far as Chaplain was concerned - it tore them up, same as any bloodsucker, but they just kept going without concern. He wondered if anything they had just acquired was going to matter. Vampires that stockpile the things that kill them really aren't worried about those things...or they are aiming to kill their own.

He noted the...what the hell was she? Dog Boy? Some kind of D-Bee that just looked like one? Either way, they were already making notes, doing what he was merely thinking.

He left the cave, considering the cache they had just acquired, and began looking for high ground. Once found, if any, he was going to survey the horizon with his bionic eye, and if he found no sign of hostiles or even life, he was going to jump to the highest nearby point, and search the horizons again. With no high point, he would consider his scan of the environs complete after a visual scan, and begin the next part of the plan.

While looking around, he asked his question to anyone listening. "You folks have names, like we do in the States? I've caught Cade, Zeke, and Joran so far."

He kept the names Hoss and Mikhail to himself. He figured they were dead, from the yelling about them.

It seems to me, the ogre rumbles just after finishing his ration pack, that this is someone's idea of a safehouse, if you are trying to stay safe from vampires.  Perhaps we should stay here until we get our bearings, figure out where we are and how to get back.
He collects his trash to stuff into his pack.  Garlic around the entrance.  Water guns.  Crosses.  I have to wonder what other protections there are here.

Miss intention was hard to tell through the black, faceless mask of her armor. But when the other one started talking, she relaxed visibly. Hands coming off her rifle, letting it hang from a strap around her shoulders. The offered food gets ignored for the moment, though. Because, frankly, there were other things to worry about.

A few hustling steps bring her toward the mouth of the cave. "Ah... Shit," she mumbles, voice quiet and with a bit of crackle as it broadcast's from the armor's sound system. She kneels down, inside the mouth of the cave. Compass coming off her belt as her finger begins to draft through the dirt.

Wanting to know exactly where we are, how far we are from where we were, and as much as possible as to what's between the two points. Also what time it is.

Zeke shook his head grinning, "Good luck LT Chaplain Wolf, since we ain't rightly sure where we are, at findin' your ride before dark. Yeah, us folks all got names like in the states. you ain't special in that regard. We lost people, you did too. So, sorry for that. Never easy to lose a man."

Cade watched the two soldiers as they made their way to the mouth of the cave.

She then headed back down inside.

"Joran's right.  This place is safe, or at least safe as anything we are probably going to find."  Cade stated.

"I think we're south of where we were.  Don't know how far south, might be far enough that we're past Lonestar."

Nathaniel looks at the rest of the group and says "Do we really want to know where we are, if we are still on our Earth? If so, I will need somebody with a shiny mirror like object to stand outside in the sun."

If somebody volunteers, he will have them reflect the mirrored object straight up. He takes off his helmet inside the mouth of the cave, turns into light, flies outside the cave and then shoots straight up like a laser beam of light about 5 miles straight up. From there he figures out where they are generally or specifically depending on the obvious land marks that can be seen form that high up. If he needs more altitude, he gets it. Meanwhile, he enjoys the natural sunlight!
