Does anyone use the responsive site?

https://r.rpol.net/

I made the jump to that one a while back and I haven't had the same 404 troubles that the forum has been mentioning recently.

I'm not a huge internet guy — it's all smoke and mirrors if I'm being honest — but maybe its on a different server or something?

Another two who sit together...a half elf and humans who look to be travelers themselves.

And the staff of the inn.

Coming into town, you notice this is a town of structured purpose. The allshrine next door is dedicated yo many faiths, with selune, lathander, mikekki and such worshipped there the most.

Ok.... since I don't own anything at D&D Beyond I apparently can't select my race and subclass options for my character sheet... They were approved by the DM but they're not available to me on D&D Beyond even with the campaign invite. My sheet has the tag as being attached to the campaign but still only has the basic options available which doesn't even include all PHB options for character creation. So, I am not sure how to go about getting my sheet up for the game...

I know. I had just assumed our DM owned and approved them since they approved what I applied as with Korlyn. If they don't own the materials on D&D Beyond... well, then my character sheet won't be accurate since neither of us can select my race or subclass. I could be convinced to change my race to work with the character builder as-is (Sea Elf, is my original race for Korlyn) but I don't see the point because... There is no way I can see using any of the selectable rogue subclasses. None of them fit for Korlyn thematically. From the ground up he's the quintessential swashbuckler. The features of the thief, soulknife, and revived subclasses just don't fit his style or personality. At all. He is a swashbuckler.

Re: OOC

I'm also in the D&DBeyond-sharing limbo. There's this article: https://dndbeyond.zendesk.com/...tent-Sharing-and-You

quote:
The Master Tier subscription allows a subscriber to turn on content sharing for up to 3 campaigns in which she participates. Each campaign can have up to 12 participants (13 counting the DM).

Turning content sharing on for a campaign means that any content unlocked by any participant (player or DM) within that campaign is available for all players and the DM for use.

We originally announced that a DM has to unlock the content in order to share, but that is no longer the case - anyone in that campaign can unlock content and share it with the other people in that campaign as long as one person (doesn't have to be the DM) has a Master Tier subscription and has used it to toggle content sharing on for that campaign.

If anyone has Master Tier, you can enable sharing. If nobody does, then we'll only have access to what each of us owns on Beyond.

We could always use the character sheet area under character details here for Korlyn. It won't be as pretty but I have a sheet that's formatted to provide links to specific sections of the sheet. So at the top of the sheet you can click to jump straight to class features, background, skills, equipment, etc.

Edit: If I'm not willing to pay D&D Beyond to use material I already own I'm not going to ask anyone else to. So, please don't anyone go get a master subscription over this.

In other news...

What I have pulled together from threads for clues:

1. Overdue caravan from Mirabar.

2. Local graves being dug up.

Then we each have our background motivations

-Thum and I want to find some bandits that wear Stone Armor
-Cornu knows of bandits at River guard keep

Not sure how far away River guard keep is from town-the local graves may be the easiest/ closets place to start.

Re: OOC

I'll be honest... Without a unifying event, I don't see why IC Korlyn wouldn't be on his merry way in the morning solo in pursuit of the two things he's in pursuit of. One of them is the same thing Cornu is looking into (I think) and the other is the same thing Kelessa is pursuing (again, I think) but he has no way of knowing that. He has no incentive to join them to find out either because he received a very cold shoulder when he met them. He's not interested or looking into any of the things that are being discussed  out loud IC so there's no reason for him to randomly tag along.

I hate to admit it, but I'm doing something similar as well.
Tanique and her family have a mission, and technically it makes no sense to join others in a side mission before doing that.  I'm rationalizing that 'if i help other people, perhaps they'll help me", but I'm not sure if that's meta gaming or not

I have no complaints about the game, certainly.   But it just feels unnatural to come to town with a mission and then side track for something unrelated

Why would I hang around and pitch in on goings on that have nothing to do with what Korlyn's is in the region to pursue? To help people that showed zero interest in even associating with me?

In reply to Cornu Trenowden (msg # 184):

I play my characters to a fault. OOC, Korlyn is on his way to infiltrate the river bandits/smugglers on behalf of the Harpers due to a deal they have with his own organization. He's also on a personal quest of vengeance against Shatterkeel. I suspect those are the two things Cornu and Kelessa are looking into.

Even if the idea is to put aside the method acting and go get the bad guys, right now we're all going after different bad guys. And some of us don't even know IC we're going after the same bad guys. There's a crucial step or two missing still to getting everyone on the same page of 'going to get the bad guys'.

I'm not trying to be a pain. I apologize that it's coming across that I am somewhat. I just don't know what to do because IC I was basically blown off by the only pair that have the same goals as me. I don't know how else to get involved that makes any sense for the character. As it stands, my options are to just drop everything the character came here to do to look into these random other events with random people he doesn't know or to tag along with a pair of people, one which didn't notice him and the other who blew him off, which would make him out to be a creep which he isn't.

Re: OOC

I get you Korlyn, been there at times in games myself. My character OOC here too, is vaguely after some murderer in this area, no strong motivations beyond, well you know, stop a murderer. Then again, my character here is inclined by default to do that type of "regional house keeping". Going after a group of bandits recently sniffing the area is up her alley and with some luck, that miscreant may be among them, two birds one stone.

In any case, I can understand your reluctance to throw any character sense to the window, I can find myself there at times to and to be honest, in my experience, for one reason or the other, I always ended up regretting it.

I understand your concerns Korlyn as well as Naeldi...not everyone is a 'let's be friends and kill stuff type of character.

That is what I like about it!

In life people come together for different reasons and it's those bonds that have people testing each other that are strong. Not everyone is happy all the time...people will see things differently, may even argue, but even despite that people have their backs.

That is what I'm going for here...that is why this hand picked group is the way it is.

The mission itself has a unusual intro granted (pre set mission's tend to be a bit tedious at the start), but I am trying to hop over some of the time consuming searching for clues and get you pointed on a path

So you guys know, it is late afternoon here, so while not too busy, there is a hand full of regular patron. An older man that looks to be here most of the time, hunched over with one eye and numerous scars (you suspect a seasoned soldier)

Another two who sit together...a half elf and humans who look to be travelers themselves.

And the staff of the inn.

Coming into town, you notice this is a town of structured purpose. The allshrine next door is dedicated yo many faiths, with selune, lathander, mikekki and such worshipped there the most.

There is a blacksmith, general store, stable and towards the outskirts are people's houses. There are lots of farmers here

I only seem to get the UA list in the site. I was considering Observant I think it's called, and maybe sharpshooter and medium armor expert (I think were the names) for that sweet no stealth penalty for medium armor. But those are for the future, at the present was thinking of that observant so that I get a +5 extra in perception and can really boost my talent as you know, stereotypical "elf eyed" archer. A +5 to perception on top of the racial bonus is top tier for that end.

But yeah on further checking and trying, for some reason the site only lets me choose from the UA feat list.

It is a very sad thing. I work in a hospital in Melbourne Australia and have seen first hand the effects of this virus. It shocks me when people think its nothing more than a cold or (even worse) a conspiracy against peoples freedom.

I have seen people unable to breathe and had to be put under anaesthetic....I have helped to that, and every time I risked getting infected to save a life. Then to see people ignore it, makes me very angry.

Re: OOC

Question because this is getting a bit confusing for me (the player), I take the death threat from Greyband was him (the character) somehow misunderstanding my elf talking about his friend rather than the friend of the nobles in our party (or that's my assumption anyway), who that as far as I understand is a different NPC, who is a happy likely brainwashed member of this order.

But after the first bit of my last post hopefully clearing that out with his character and moderately expressing how vexing she finds the whole thing... I made a point of making it clear that the second bit was addressed at our nobles. I tried to word what Naeldil said in polite but no uncertain terms, yet what I infer from the answer leaves me as a player a bit baffled.

I have been squeezing my limited brainpower to try figure things out but I can't say that I am sure about anything beyond these theories:

1º) Somehow Either the player OR the character misunderstood what Naeldil said and thought the first part to also be addressed to Thalia and Tanique? I definitely have no problem with the second or any real problem with the first either, just trying to grasp things here.

2º) That however politely put, the second bit still touched on the subject of perhaps having to face the possibility of being forced to put their friend down. An idea perhaps too aggravating and outrageous to the characters to even bring up?

3º) Me yet again failing at English.exe and failing to convey stuff the way I intended?

Are any of those right? Anywhere close to the mark? None at all?

Anyway no rant, protest or any such thing but a plea as the player for clarification because I am finding myself more and more confused as to where things are coming from the further down we go. Also please excuse my ramble, I tend to drift and beat around the bush when trying to make a point or convey something.

Re: OOC

I think Naeldil meant the knight that is the friend of the aasimar that you met...not Greyband's companion (as most of the group don't even know about her).

The others may have misunderstood the meaning of this. If this is the case,  I will allow editing of posts.

Naeldil is a little stand offish as a character (which is part of her character), expecially towards certain characters types. She is a Elf that sees things differently yo others....and remember that people don't always become instant friends straight away. Bonds are forged in extreme circumstances

Re: OOC

Naeldil, yes I understood that your words were intended for Thalia and Tanique, however, I couldn't answer sooner due to time constraints. I must say though, your single sentence post was made with no hint whom she addressed her statement. More context (as in your second post) would have likely avoided Greyband's confusion. On the other hand side, misunderstandings like that can happen in real life, too, so that's not really a big deal to me.

Savra, Thalia's childhood friend, has not yet fought against the group, thus far she only took them to her boss. This may make her an accomplice, or at least an accessory, but it is not unheard of that people try to save or redeem their family/friends even after they committed a crime or many (see Luke Skywalker if you wish). So I think it is well within reason for the aasimars to attempt saving her. Thalia will not decide about her life or death beforehand, having another Sleep spell that could be used to subdue Savra should be worth a try.

Written words often fail to convey the intent behind them because intonation and facial expressions are missing. Hence I tend to add white text to make the intention clear. A simple "Are you hurt?" can be spoken with warmth to let the other know you care, or it can be said harshly to imply you feel the other person is weak and lots of meanings in between. Feel free to add the intention how things were said and don't worry, I've had my characters 'say' things that sounded way better in my head, too. ;)

Re: OOC

Nononoono, no post editing, that's not my intention at all. Just trying to get what spurred this whole situation, the Greyband's bit I assumed myself but given the situation and that is quite a plausible mistake (IC) I think it is quite fine. Naeldil just speaking to her peers without much regard for Greyband or his mentioned friend, since she doesn't see him as part of their merry gang but rather a total stranger to be wary of (right now anyway). that whole misunderstanding was in a sense quite amusing, these types of things can work for character development.

Anyhow, I take it then that what Thalia found object able was the mere idea of having to kill Savra. Though poor Elf here is no making any decisions about it but rather pointing out that if she is much of a zealot as the erst of them and they can't subdue her somehow, it may regrettably come to that. Though I guess for a friend of Savra that my sound just the same as Lets kill her! xD

Now I get were Thalia is coming from, which isn't to say my poor elf does, but that is far less worth of any concern.

Anyhow, Ao is quite right, Naeldil isn't quick to make actual friends, the rest of the party are just her current peers in a one off job. She has a degree of deference for Thalia and Tanique as she understands them to be nobles from someplace and you just treat their kind with care, a bit for Xantria too because of how she has conducted herself. In fact is part of why she didn't make much of the death threat.

Thum and Greyband however... Cornu for that matter too, she currently "attaches" them to this whole mess she found herself involved in. Can't express just how bad what we are doing sits with her, or how much she doubts their odds of making it. Greyband is pretty much a total stranger and from where Naeldil stands, he could be a serial killer for all the know, who did indeed belong in the dungeon of this knights. Thum however... would be a bit spoilerish to explain much but suffice to say she definitely doesn't like him by default and the pissing on corpses didn't help that. xD

At any rate it is these hings that make for character development and fun times in RP, so definitely no problem or even the thought of wanting anything edited. And the little explanation I just gave as a plus so if we have any future incidents or misunderstandings, it is well clear at least for the players that things are purely IC and where the character may be coming from. : )

With some luck we will finish this knightly order and live to tell the tale, to start the new year with a chase on new leads to those evil stone folks.

As I am NPcing Bafruk since the player has a slight chance of returning, for now he will stick around. Cornu has officially disappeared and with his void Greybeard has jumped in (rather well i would say)

So, for now, our tank is Thum, the raging barbarian orc blooded warrior

Bafruk may be replaced by another warrior type if he doesn't return, but that will hinge on how the party feels the group is balanced

You are now on the map labelled 'ground level'...which I am calling the cell level.

the largest room on the right is the storeroom/armory. All other rooms are cells....this floor has no door!

Below is a floor that looks exactly like the ground level, with the doors, and under is the stables with another door

IC friction is always a thing and usually a sign of good RP.  Praelia is already frustrated with Thum's 'barbarian planning style'.  She is a meticulous planner (comes from her officer training).  Of course once battle starts Praelia tends to have a lot more in common with a barbarian.  I'm sure she'd rage if she could!

You will note that you are on the ground level, with the stable level underneath. There is a hollow moat around so the only access is the bridge. Even though there are multiple windows, the ones i stated is where things were seen (BAck room in the nlargest, and the entrance room.)

Each square is 10 feet, so the entrance with thge bridge is 20 feet by 30 feet. There is a door with the stairs (20X20), and the back room (At its longest, 60 feet long, width 25 feet)

The party can fit within the entrance hall, but once enemies come in, it will be TIGHT! Any large weapons will be used with disadvantage, as will ranged in close quarters.

The drop into the ravine to the base of the tower is about 20 feet, but you all know there is a door leading out the back of the tower

Well if this team lets a barbarian undertake their negotiations then they have to live with the bloodshed.  That's like asking Praelia to perform a stealth action.

Oh and it became your plan (in Praelia's opinion) when you ignored the plan Praelia was developing and told Xantria to go ahead with the illusion.  No issue with me ooc.  I can understand the group following the known quantity.  In fairness a barbarian's battle strategy tends to be less complicated.  Rage, smash, repeat!

Long rest gets spells back except for warlocks, though wizards have arcane recovery that returns a few spell slots and sircorers can spend sorcery points

Just to clarify to all, there are 3 entrances to the tower that you know of. The top floor where people could fly in, the main gate/bridge on the ground floor (situated at the left of the map) and a access door for mounts from the stable (basement), situated the right of the map (so back of the tower)

The main gate and stable gate are easily locked from the inside with heavy wooden beams

Though all levels have Windows, they have bars on them so gaining access is not possible. But you can use them for arrows and spells

My plan was laid out in the IC.  Praelia and Thum to hold downstairs.  Every capable ranged person to upstairs.  Also need someone (or someones) to centralise the food and weapon stores.  Anything we can't/don't use can be destroyed as we retreat.  Especially crossbows and bolts.  Even if you're not good with them, what better time to practice than with the enemy's gear?  ;)

I guess people can follow this or make their own plan as they see fit.

I should add my plan also specifically states we should implement as soon as we can as the more time we give the cultists the more time they have to plan, giving them the advantage.  Praelia wanted to make them angry to make them reckless.  Even a short rest may be too long.

If by 'locking the doors' you mean the main doors, Praelia plan to only lightly block those.  Every other entrance should be heavily fortified but the idea is to funnel them through the front gate and straight to 'Doororc Thum' to greet them!  I'd suggest you put any suggestion to alter the plan IC though.  I'm only reiterating what I said IC here.

Maybe some shorter watches for those who need a long rest.  You can keep watch for up to 2 hours and still have it count as a long rest.

People who have darkvision are Pretty much everyone EXCEPT Praelia. Bafruk is  warrior and can take watch during the dark for 4 hours (or more if needed)

The rest will be up to you.

BUT, remember that most of the enemy consists of humans, with a handful of half elves and two half orc that you have seen, so even though Praelia will need light to see, So will they!

Praelia has no way of knowing who or what Xantria is 'cool with', the gnome and dragonborn have barely spoken to each other.  I am merely playing Praelia based on you IC posts.  Xantria  voiced her displeasure when Praelia didn't follow your group's leader and then Praelia was 'glared at' along a half day march.

It seems natural to me (as a player) that Praelia (the character) would therefore assume Xantria resents her.  And with good cause.  Having a paladin who is used to commanding troops come in to a group with a specific leadership structure is jarring.

Re: OOC

So tbe player of thalia is bowing out as she cannot commit to the quick pace of the game. I wish her all the luck with other games (including my other game she is in) and will be sorry to see her go.

With a mass exodus and turnover of players (including 3 new players on the roster who I welcome), I want to put a serious question out to all which I want you all to seriously think on.

We are back in red larch and their is a branch of the next part of the mission starting, so I am happy to continue. But if all want to start a fresh campaign, I am open to that (but I warn all that if that happens, some changes will have to happen to characters.)

Either way, I want to enforce my 3 day post (even if it's the character standing around picking their nose) OR a private message to me.

Please let me know tbe consensus

Personally, I don't mind inter-party conflict so long as it doesn't divulge into inter-party violence, theft, etc. Characters don't need to like each other, and honestly, often shouldn't.  It always boggle my brain a bit when a half-orc and elf are best friends.  Could be, sure..., but not as likely.  Same for having some rule-following paladin with a rule-ignoring barbarian, or whatever.  That said, it's the DM's house, and he didn't really ask for my two cents.

I get the feeling moving forward, given so many people are leaving and others joining, the group will need to split and then reform into something new, with a shared purpose.  Wether that comes from the DM or one of our story arcs (Praelia has her own mission to fulfill) I'm sure time will tell.

As the DM mentioned I've cobbled together a map.  I know no more about the battle than the rest of you.  I just popped tokens where I thought they'd be and the boss corrected.  I also checked with the DM which creatures are affected by faerie fire.

Each square is 5ft.  I've outlined the bugs affected by faerie fire with purple.

Xantria is not on the map because she's further back behind the stable.

Hope it makes sense.

Sure the DM will add it to the game soon.

Tanique...your movement will not put you in melee range. your range as an assimar. the only reason that Thrum and Praelia had an attack is Praelia has a weapon with reach, and Thum, as a barbarian has a walking speed of 30 feet (Where your at 20 feet)

To get to them you need to spend an action to move again

People who move can only use action and movement to move (Minus those who have the dash ability who can move as a bonus action too)

Perregrin, to jump from the roof will take your movement and an accrobatics roll to avoid injury

Re: OOC

I didn't update the map as really I didn't see the point.  A single sleeping ankheg doesn't need a map.  The other map would just be a chase and all that matters there is ranges which the DM can tell us.  If the DM wants an update I'll do it but I'll need all the relevant info (i.e. terrain, ranges, etc).

Also you'd notice Praelia carries no ranged weapons so she can't engage.  Please don't let me hold you from attacking.  Praelia is suggesting she'd REALLY like the dragonborn stopped.

Yes. Yes.  Peregrin is as interested in tracking/following them to ensure they don't truly escape than slowing down for pot shots, although that may be practical (I don't have a sense of the distance).  Also, not sure if the DM will divert to "chase rules" or what not. Peregrin is 50% faster than most (using Cunning Action and being unencumbered).

Also, curiously - what is Colossus Slayer?

Tracking them is definitely the smart thing to do here.  Ironically in any other situation, Praelia would be the one suggesting that.  Unfortunately she's not thinking clearly based on whom she's chasing!

Curiously, do the walls look climbable?

Ordinarily, Peregrin would be for scouting things out, and depending on the time of day, waiting until after dark - perhaps even scaling the wall in the dark if the opportunity seemed to present itself, not to steal or attack but rather just as recon, and the possibility of opening the gate from the inside to let the others in, should that be the plan.

Re: OOC

Actually, all they revealed themselves to be at the point we started to cut them down, was having members among them with a taunting big mouth, which the good barbarian could not stand. Having a dungeon and prisoners in it is hardly evil or a crime. They were weird and suspicious I agree, but by then they weren't evil... If someone pushed the issue it was us, who after gaining entrance under false pretense and lies, earned their trust and friendship fighting alongside them, then were invited to a feast and while breaking bread with them, saw fit to have some of us use further deception to infiltrate their home and not only spy on their affairs but meddle as well, freeing one of the persons in their dungeon (who for all we know was a criminal rightfully thrown in there). And even then, they were gracious enough to let us go unharmed, even with the prisoner we had broke out of their dungeon, not without well earned scorn, which ultimately pushed Thum over the edge and concluded in us making grim butchery of much of their order and painting the place red with blood from top to bottom.

Were they actually "evil"? I wouldn't know, Naeldil certainly doesn't, they are enemies now that's for sure. Save for that weird initial party we encountered, they were nothing but good to us and later on they were merely defending themselves and their home. And Might I add, before we slighted them as we did, there was talk with them about joining forces to tackle these stone clad people we are after right now, and those we knew for a fact that are evil.

Moreover, our now gone freed prisoner that was the source of the mess, tried to kill Naeldil out of nowhere, for which the elf is now adamant about him being some kind of criminal or murderer who belonged in a dark cell. And may I point out, nobody did a thing about it, which in turn hasn't exactly done wonders to make a positive impression on Naeldil, You know, not doing anything to help when a total stranger we just plucked out of a cell tries to gut her like a fish. Well nobody but good olde Thum, Naeldil hates his bones and has her own reasons to, but that much has endeared him to her, not to balance things out but if nothing else, she knows he is one to depend on,well that and Praelia, whose demeanor and drive for things is reassuring. :P

But yeah, what I am getting at is, We hardly did stuff that I would label as good in that tower and any reason we acquired to think them as some kind of "evil" group was well after the carnage. So I don't know, hopefully we can try to avoid such approach this time? For all we know these are hermit monks who live in this secluded fashion precisely not to have to deal with outsiders like us, and we are contemplating gaining entrance in similar fashion, just forcing our way in and spying on them. Just because they told us as much... Sure, particularly that woman acted suspiciously during your short exchange, but that is hardly reason enough to do many of the things being contemplated. Not that Naeldil knows crap, she did not see or hear a thing.

If you really think these guys are in on it, we could seek some concealed vantage point and put the place under surveillance.

Well if it helps, they did kidnap and hold Praelia against her will who did nothing bad to those cultists!  So may not have known they were evil when shenanigans started (which is significant, especially if it's against your alignment) but at least by the end you knew they were baddies.

There is no way Praelia will approve any hostile actions against a foe who is not proven to be evil or committing a crime (such as these monks).  That's why everyone usually loooooves having a pally around!  Righteous assholes they are.

If the sneaks want to do some reconnaissance she has no issue with that.  Spying is part of any lawful body's repertoire.  As long as its purely surveillance with no killing of people.

Yeah, later on one could have justified fighting them. Although that still wouldn't change that we betrayed their trust and hospitality as well as their gracious offer to let us go in the way we did, that's a big nono and you don't need to be a paladin for it. Naeldil is just some woodland ranger, she is anything but a paladin tier hard legal character, but there are some things that are  simple common decency. So I am really hoping that we go about things differently this time, or as I joked that at least we drop the pretense that we are not acting like some gang of looters. xD

If you want to NPC Peregrin until you get back to town or what not, I may be able to rejoin.  (My boss's wife has been sick, had surgery, and now is having complications, and tons of work is falling on me; plus I had the kids more in the Summer.)  Or, if you need to just replace me and move on, that's fine.

Re: OOC

Alive and kicking, not entirely sure what else are we supposed to scout though. If you need filler for watches I can chip in, only need to sleep about 4 hours if memory serves right.

Here is a perception roll jus in case to save time.
11:59, Today: Naeldil rolled 18 using 1d20+3.  Perception in case.

I am present and willing to go on any patrol though Xan is more wanting to explore under the monastery as she thinks it will reveal more quickly.

Re: OOC

It has been 48 hours and only 2 people have posted. If I don't hear from people within 12 hours then I will assume they are no longer interested.

Re: OOC

I to,d people 48 hours to post herefrom everyone. That was Friday the 18th. It has been 72 hours and I have had 2 posts

I am going on the assumption that everyone else is no longer interested in playing. I give this until the end of the day (12 hours), because it was a weekend, and then if there is no interest, I will be disbanding this game

Re: OOC

You had 2 IC post and 2 OOC posts.  It seemed to me people were more confused than disinterested.

I know in my game there's been some slowdown in posting.

Still I'm here if we carrying on.

Re: OOC

So things have come to a screaming halt here. I have tried  to keep it moving, but things have stalled well and truely. So at this point I am going to call this game.

This was my first attempt at 5.0, and I have gained some good insight.

I wod like to thank all of the players for participating.

I will be officially closing this game in a week.

Thank you all.

Sorry it didn't pan out.  You're welcome to look me up over at my game but if posting is an issue, I have a 2-3 day turnaround on posts so might not suit.

I can think of at least 6 off the top of my head
* Two in D&D
* One in Shadowrun (probably my favourite)
* Three in Star Wars
