Re: OOC
Actually, all they revealed themselves to be at the point we started to cut them down, was having members among them with a taunting big mouth, which the good barbarian could not stand. Having a dungeon and prisoners in it is hardly evil or a crime. They were weird and suspicious I agree, but by then they weren't evil... If someone pushed the issue it was us, who after gaining entrance under false pretense and lies, earned their trust and friendship fighting alongside them, then were invited to a feast and while breaking bread with them, saw fit to have some of us use further deception to infiltrate their home and not only spy on their affairs but meddle as well, freeing one of the persons in their dungeon (who for all we know was a criminal rightfully thrown in there). And even then, they were gracious enough to let us go unharmed, even with the prisoner we had broke out of their dungeon, not without well earned scorn, which ultimately pushed Thum over the edge and concluded in us making grim butchery of much of their order and painting the place red with blood from top to bottom.
Were they actually "evil"? I wouldn't know, Naeldil certainly doesn't, they are enemies now that's for sure. Save for that weird initial party we encountered, they were nothing but good to us and later on they were merely defending themselves and their home. And Might I add, before we slighted them as we did, there was talk with them about joining forces to tackle these stone clad people we are after right now, and those we knew for a fact that are evil.
Moreover, our now gone freed prisoner that was the source of the mess, tried to kill Naeldil out of nowhere, for which the elf is now adamant about him being some kind of criminal or murderer who belonged in a dark cell. And may I point out, nobody did a thing about it, which in turn hasn't exactly done wonders to make a positive impression on Naeldil, You know, not doing anything to help when a total stranger we just plucked out of a cell tries to gut her like a fish. Well nobody but good olde Thum, Naeldil hates his bones and has her own reasons to, but that much has endeared him to her, not to balance things out but if nothing else, she knows he is one to depend on,well that and Praelia, whose demeanor and drive for things is reassuring. :P
But yeah, what I am getting at is, We hardly did stuff that I would label as good in that tower and any reason we acquired to think them as some kind of "evil" group was well after the carnage. So I don't know, hopefully we can try to avoid such approach this time? For all we know these are hermit monks who live in this secluded fashion precisely not to have to deal with outsiders like us, and we are contemplating gaining entrance in similar fashion, just forcing our way in and spying on them. Just because they told us as much... Sure, particularly that woman acted suspiciously during your short exchange, but that is hardly reason enough to do many of the things being contemplated. Not that Naeldil knows crap, she did not see or hear a thing.
If you really think these guys are in on it, we could seek some concealed vantage point and put the place under surveillance.
