Re: OOC

Thum:
Thum looked at the door. Maybe he could break it down. He took a few steps back and took some deep breaths. He squared his shoulders, ready to charge the door and bash it in..
Thum's shoulders slumped and he sighed sadly. "Okay.." He turned away from the door and walked back towards the others dragging the butt of his greataxe.

Damn paladins, always ruining people's fun!!!!

Peregrin Boffinbread:
It's up to players and the DM but for sake of time, it may be easier for the DM to just make a few rolls and give a general scouting report.

I've already ruined Thum's fun, hate to see us waste a chance for the sneaks to shine!!!  Besides if they fail and get caught or attacked, Thum has a reason to bust the door down!!!  ;)

Re: OOC

At this rate though, I vote for us to just go ahead and drop the pretense that we have anything good for alignment. All we see to do is either break our way into people's homes to butcher them or lie to them, gain entrance and their friendship to butcher them as well right after. xD

In reply to Naeldil (msg # 837):

I disagree with that completely.   In the last citadel we were in, we were treating them fairly,  only to have them be revealed as evil.  They pushed that issue, not us.

Re: OOC

Actually, all they revealed themselves to be at the point we started to cut them down, was having members among them with a taunting big mouth, which the good barbarian could not stand. Having a dungeon and prisoners in it is hardly evil or a crime. They were weird and suspicious I agree, but by then they weren't evil... If someone pushed the issue it was us, who after gaining entrance under false pretense and lies, earned their trust and friendship fighting alongside them, then were invited to a feast and while breaking bread with them, saw fit to have some of us use further deception to infiltrate their home and not only spy on their affairs but meddle as well, freeing one of the persons in their dungeon (who for all we know was a criminal rightfully thrown in there). And even then, they were gracious enough to let us go unharmed, even with the prisoner we had broke out of their dungeon, not without well earned scorn, which ultimately pushed Thum over the edge and concluded in us making grim butchery of much of their order and painting the place red with blood from top to bottom.

Were they actually "evil"? I wouldn't know, Naeldil certainly doesn't, they are enemies now that's for sure. Save for that weird initial party we encountered, they were nothing but good to us and later on they were merely defending themselves and their home. And Might I add, before we slighted them as we did, there was talk with them about joining forces to tackle these stone clad people we are after right now, and those we knew for a fact that are evil.

Moreover, our now gone freed prisoner that was the source of the mess, tried to kill Naeldil out of nowhere, for which the elf is now adamant about him being some kind of criminal or murderer who belonged in a dark cell. And may I point out, nobody did a thing about it, which in turn hasn't exactly done wonders to make a positive impression on Naeldil, You know, not doing anything to help when a total stranger we just plucked out of a cell tries to gut her like a fish. Well nobody but good olde Thum, Naeldil hates his bones and has her own reasons to, but that much has endeared him to her, not to balance things out but if nothing else, she knows he is one to depend on,well that and Praelia, whose demeanor and drive for things is reassuring. :P

But yeah, what I am getting at is, We hardly did stuff that I would label as good in that tower and any reason we acquired to think them as some kind of "evil" group was well after the carnage. So I don't know, hopefully we can try to avoid such approach this time? For all we know these are hermit monks who live in this secluded fashion precisely not to have to deal with outsiders like us, and we are contemplating gaining entrance in similar fashion, just forcing our way in and spying on them. Just because they told us as much... Sure, particularly that woman acted suspiciously during your short exchange, but that is hardly reason enough to do many of the things being contemplated. Not that Naeldil knows crap, she did not see or hear a thing.

If you really think these guys are in on it, we could seek some concealed vantage point and put the place under surveillance.

Re: OOC

Well if it helps, they did kidnap and hold Praelia against her will who did nothing bad to those cultists!  So may not have known they were evil when shenanigans started (which is significant, especially if it's against your alignment) but at least by the end you knew they were baddies.

There is no way Praelia will approve any hostile actions against a foe who is not proven to be evil or committing a crime (such as these monks).  That's why everyone usually loooooves having a pally around!  Righteous assholes they are.

If the sneaks want to do some reconnaissance she has no issue with that.  Spying is part of any lawful body's repertoire.  As long as its purely surveillance with no killing of people.

Just waiting on some info from our DM before I post.

Re: OOC

Yeah, later on one could have justified fighting them. Although that still wouldn't change that we betrayed their trust and hospitality as well as their gracious offer to let us go in the way we did, that's a big nono and you don't need to be a paladin for it. Naeldil is just some woodland ranger, she is anything but a paladin tier hard legal character, but there are some things that are  simple common decency. So I am really hoping that we go about things differently this time, or as I joked that at least we drop the pretense that we are not acting like some gang of looters. xD

But yeah, Peregrin is your time to shine!

And I couldn't agree more Xantria, after the great smug crash I will never trust anything smug ever again.

Re: OOC

Anyone searching for a way into the monastery I will need a stealth check with advantage (as it will be getting into darkness), a perception check with disadvantage (again with darkness) and anyone with survival skill prof can roll that too.

You can use torches but you will be at risk of being seen by the monks (anyone using a torch rolls at disadvantage) but can make normal perception roll.

Once results are in I will post

Re: OOC

Our initial plan was to find a defensible but (barely) visible campsite with the rest of the day.  Any infiltration plans would need to be discussed (well I assume Naeldil and any other sneaks would want to make plans).

No way Praelia would attempt such a thing.  She's hardly stealthy.

You easily find a camp-site that has all of that about 30 minutes walk down the trail.

Re: OOC

Nothing has been decided.  I seem to be the only one posting IC at present.

Praelia has suggested the sneaky types (whom she assumes are Naledil and Peregrin) could do some recon of the monastery if it gets dark.  If they think its a good idea to try and infiltrate as well, that's up to them.

Peregrin has said he'll go but if we have other covert types it would be better he didn't go alone.

Basically, just waiting for the others to do whatever until dark.  After that, again, I'm fine with detail or a general summary of recon results.

Re: OOC

Well I guess I can tag along for that I have a +5 in stealth after all. But Naeldil is not breaking into the monastery though. Is like I don't know, going to a village asking for some information, be met with rude unwelcoming villagers and then deciding to break into their homes at night just because. She may be ruthless at times and lax with rules if need be but you know, there are some things that she just considers common decency.
