In reply to GM (msg # 18):

That does indeed sounds dangerous.  Fortunately I have some stalwart companions I can ask for help.

I should likely buy some armor before I go adventuring...

related question, all, which Lore should I work towards: Light or Heavens??

In a group half dedicated to Ranald? Heavens gets to be a lucky Tesla coil.

The majority of tools count as Improvised Weapons when used in combat, however GMs may rule that heavy or sharp tools (e.g. crowbars and sickles) count as Hand Weapons.
Turns out, I have a vested interest in asking which a crowbar counts as. GM?

Not the roughest, meanest, or greediest no-good you’re likely to meet in Altdorf. Valdred does have the benefit of a good head on his shoulders whether you're talking youthful looks or brains, plus a knack for keeping an innocently straight face compared to your average hardened criminal (and his mouth shut after a job). He rarely stoops to picking over scraps or fighting for his 9/10ths - but if there's an easy mark to swindle or worthwhile percentage to make, he's not one to turn down an opportunity. More recently he styles himself a self-made man of Altdorf, a rooftop prowler, and occasional tavern cutpurse, though a Ranaldan or two still remind him of when he was better with a sick horse and a set of reins than a second story window.

I have invited another player, Croatoan, to join us as he had PM'd me first. Hopefully hear from him soon. I did only invite them today so please be patient.

Valdred, I'm happy for you to count a Crowbar as a Hand Weapon given your career.

Fame is always a good ambition, maybe you want to be that celebrity thief who everyone has heard of but no one knows exactly who it is?

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that my wife and I are working to get our house ready to go on the market.  My free time is very little right now.  I will try to keep working toward getting my character ready.  We hope to have the house done by the weekend, so hopefully I'll have more time soon.

There's your problem. Text goes between <td> & </td>.

ie; <td colspan="14">Thief</td>

Thanks for answering Valdred.

Sorry, for the delay I've had a crazy couple of days with job interviews. I'll be posting updates tonight and moving the game forward

Ok, I (with the GMs approval) will be playing young Filibert Heinig (Bert to his friends) who is a young, fresh recruit in the imperial calvary. He's a tad short (5'2") and is a bit insecure about his size, so he frequently tries to prove his worth. It's why he's taken a shine to Cavalry life, where the horse levels the playing field.

There still appears to be information missing on several character sheets. Gerhardt especially. If you need any assistance let me know. I'd like to get all the characters squared away before we move on.

Plugging away at that.  The trickiest part is figuring out the correct slot for everything.

You might have an easier time parsing it through something like this, first. Code on the right, output on the left.

Party Ambitions should be blank, ye?

That link is awesome, muchly appreciated!

Except I'm still going to have to break it down somewhat.  I have to buy a membership if I want to edit more than 300 words.

I could understand it simply enough if our GM had gone line by line, left to right.  It would be ugly formatting in the HTML screen but I could understand it and fill it in myself.

I'm finding this section by section format a little tough to follow.

Didn't even think of it. If you're in Firefox; right click on the warning > inspect element;

<div id="wordCountWarining" style="display: block;">

After deleting that (right click on the code line; delete node), it shouldn't bother you.

Finlos, sorry you are having troubles with the character sheet. I've edited your sheet to display properly. When designing the sheet I tried to make it more readable by separating the rows (the stuff between the <tr> and </tr> tags). Each cell within the row is then on a separate line marked by either a <td></td> tag or a <th></th> tag. The <th></th> tags identify a header that is the bold text.

If you want to change it to be a simple text sheet, rather than using the HTML then I'm fine with that. Whatever will make it easier for you to track your character. I'm afraid I was trying to be too clever and create a graphical character sheet that looks like the standard sheet from the rulebook.

GM:
How about this?
Your characters have taken berths on board a small, family run barge that runs the route between Weissbruck and Altdorf along the Weissbruck Canal.

GM thoughts on the purpose for a young Cavalry recruit to be on the barge?

Perhaps Finlos's Wizard Benefactor has some pull with Bert's Commander and requested an escort for the scholar? For Bert to be traveling he'd need to be ordered to.

In reply to Croatoan (msg # 41):

I wouldn't mind a bodyguard.  For adventure in the wilds, I have a dagger.  Apparently weapons and armor are for rich people.

On the plus side, my character sheet is finished, pending GM approval, and I am ready to begin adventuring.

Re: Character Generation
We could be worse off - for adventuring in the wilds, I can almost offer even odds for being able to help someone else stave off wild animals. ;)

Weapons and armour that function adequately (or better) are for rich people, though. The flawed stuff that breaks when you hold it the wrong way, leaves you walking like a cowboy, etc? That's cheap. p292.

In reply to Erika Kleiber (msg # 42):
Short Term Ambitions are supposed to be something you'll complete in "days and weeks", or "two to three sessions". So not immediate, but short. (and possible to change your mind on) Something thievery/heist related, as a stepping stone to the next STA?

Re: Character Generation
I haven't heard from Gerhardt at all since he posted about 10 days ago that he was getting ready to move house and I have reached out a couple of times. My plan is to move forward and then should be come back we'll work him into the story somehow.

However as we are now missing our boatman and have gained a cavalryman I will change the introduction slightly. You are now traveling from Altdorf to Weissbruck via road. There is a road that parallels the canal and you'll be traveling along it.

Erika Kleiber - You are carrying an important message to the leader of the Crosses of the Cult of Ranald in Weissbruck. The letter is closed and sealed with the seal of Ranald, you don't think it would be a good idea to break the seal and you have no idea of the contents. Your superiors made it quite clear that this message must be delivered and it may well be your first step on the path to establishing the reputation and power base that you need to accomplish your long term goal. You will do anything to make sure the letter is delivered safely. (Short Term Goal?)

Valdred Kint - You have been tasked with providing bodyguard services to Erika, she is supposed to deliver an important message to the Cult of Ranald in Weissbruck and to get a response. It's your primary duty to watch her back. You get the sense that the missive may be one that will not be taken kindly by the powers that be in Weissbruck.

Filibert Heinig - You're not exactly sure why you are on this trip, except that you are following orders from your CO. Your orders are to accompany and protect this carriage from Altdorf to Weissbruck and then to report to the barracks of the 11th Regiment of the Reikland Cavalry and present your orders (a scroll you carry). It makes no sense because none of the travelers appear to be of noble birth or of military bearing and the carriage is the regular cheap means of transport between the two cities, but orders are orders. Erika and Valdred are aware that the CO of the 3rd Regiment in Altdorf (Filibert's CO) is a regular customer at the tables and dens run by the cult in Altdorf and has unfortunately been running into a significant losing streak.

Heinrich Stark - You are on the way to Weissbruck as a stop on your journey to Darkstone Ring. You patron has tasked you to retrieve certain ingredients he needs for his magical research and these ingredients can only be found in Darkstone Ring. He has promised to teach you the ways of wizardry when you return and so you have purchased the cheapest transportation to Weissbruck, hoping that along the way you might pick up enough coin to hire a bodyguard for the second part of the journey. You have been pleasantly surprised to find a cavalryman accompanying the carriage and wonder who your traveling companions are to warrant such protection.

I will create the IC thread and set the scene tomorrow.
