RossN,

There are a couple of options you can explore from the rulebook:

1. Stick with the Priestess and simply switch the attributes around to create a character you feel works better. This is option 2. in determining characteristics and if you do that you gain 25XP rather than 50XP for rearranging the attribute scores.

2. Assuming the priestess was your first roll on the Class and Career table you can take two more rolls and have a choice of 1 of 3 careers. Again you only gain 25XP rather than 50XP for doing this but you do have a wider choice of careers.

Human, Thief. Thinking on sticking with that. though dwarf/guard for a tavern bouncer (or wood elf/outlaw for a group theme in that vein) would interest me.

Reading it again and looking here; is it choose species first, or roll and gain xp first? No option to go from roll to choose? I think I may have had the wrong idea after going over how career works.

Novocrane,

As I read it, it's:

1. Choose species or choose to roll for species and gain 20XP
2. Roll for class and career, decide to keep it and gain 50XP or choose to roll 2 more times and then select one of the three and gain 25XP, or choose any career for your species and gain 0XP.
3. Roll for attributes, decide to keep them in order rolled and gain 50XP. Swap your rolls around to suit best character and gain 25XP or do a 100pt point buy and gain 0XP

It appears that I'll be playing Gerhardt the immensely likable boatman.

Going to start rolling.  I'm curious to see what I can randomly generate but I'll see what I roll first....

Human scholar for +70xp

I'll roll with it for now (pun intended...)

I think I might stick with my rolls as is for now then - rolling on the career table means I won't have enough XP to buy a second Talent at the start, and if I'm playing a Priest or Priestess I'd really want to have Read/Write and Bless.

Looking at the career table, I missed being a wizard by -one- pip.

I could always progress into that, I suppose.

In reply to Finlos (msg # 9):

Bad luck. :(

I do like the way the game gives you options about whether to go totally random, partly random or just choose.

I've ended up with a near penniless, sixteen year old initiate... still trying to decide whether to keep that or try my luck with a couple more rules.

In reply to RossN (msg # 10):

'becoming a wizard' is now a character goal for this guy.  Not yet sure how (or even *if*) that's possible, but he will work towards that.

sometimes random characters can be the most interesting ones

One of the things I noticed is that they have done away with the Career Exits and now anyone can take any career path, you just need to pay the appropriate amount of XP and be able to justify it in terms of the campaign.

Is there a good character sheet out there?  I'm about ready to start filling one out.

I have an editable version of the PDF but the file size once completed is too large to upload. I'm working on a text template today and hopefully will have it posted tonight for everyone's use.

So, looking at the gods a servant of Ranald looks the most fun by far (I get to be greedy and tricksy) but I admit I'm havng a bit of difficulty seeing a completely fresh faced priest or priestess of Ranald - I really get the impression a Ranaldite should have at least a bit of a past. A petty thief, gambler, dissolute noble, whatever.

Unfortunately none of the beginning Priest skills support that kind of character. They all seemed geared towards a more cloistered sort of initiate, more appropriate to Verena, Morr, Shallya and some priests of Sigmar.

I liked your suggestion of having become a wizard as a goal Finlos. I'm wondering if I should take the option to roll up two alternate careers and see if that makes more sense for a character looking to become a priest.

So a boatman, a priest, a scholar, and a thief walk into a bar in the Reikland night. The thief ducks.

What if that Priest of Ranald past is less hands-on, more working through others?
I'm tossing up between an Altdorfian ganger (Nightfall Boys or The Fish), or a cultist of Ranald. (Crooked Fingers sect, Brotherhood of Altdorf) Trying to piece it all together so it makes sense, and I'm connected but not obligated to stay in one place.

https://warhammerfantasy.fando...tegory:Altdorf_Gangs

Also pondering whether focusing on ranged(bow) is going to bite us, given I'd probably need to beg/borrow/steal a bow. (and turn 'flee' into an art before that)

What year is it?

Thanks, RossN.  My idea for this guy, subject to GM approval, is that he tried to get into wizard college but failed and became a scholar in the meantime with a heavy focus of studying magic and magic-related stuff until he can get around to applying again.

He'll get into wizard college yet, yes he will!

I typically play melee heavy characters so this will be different for me.

How about this?

Willis: As you are a boatman I think I'm going to move the method of transportation from a coach to a boat. You are a boat-hand working for your uncle ferrying cargo and the occasional passenger around Weissbruck. Due to the lack of a commercial cargo your uncle has picked up three passengers for the return trip from Altdorf to Weissbruck, a scholarly youth and two persons of questionable background.

Finlos: I'm fine with that idea, in fact let's say that he has a patron who is a Wizard in the college of Magic of your choice. The Wizard has assured you that he will take you on as his apprentice, but he needs you to perform a dangerous task for him to prove your worth. You are to recover a quantity of luminescent moss that only grows on the stones of the Darkstone Ring.

Novocrane & RossN You two are members of the Cult of Ranald in Altdorf. Within the cult the priests of Ranald, known as Crosses, oversee the cult's money making activities, such as gambling dens, brothels and the like. They don't have to have come from a thieving background, they can simply be adherents to the cult. The rank and file thieves, known as the Crooked Fingers, are the public face of the cult and universally distrusted by the general public. They act as the muscle and disposable resources for the cult. The two of you have been dispatched by the leadership of the cult in Altdorf to deliver a message to the cult in Weissbruck.

Your characters have taken berths on board a small, family run barge that runs the route between Weissbruck and Altdorf along the Weissbruck Canal. This suits Novocrane and RossN's purposes because of the low key nature of the travel, for Finlos it's more about the cost and affordability. The barge is crewed by two people, an older man and Willis' character who refers to the older man as uncle, and an old horse that pulls the barge along the canal route. You have been traveling about 3 days out of Altdorf and are getting close to Bruckthin.

Yeah, that sounds a nice idea GM, I'm happy to go with that. I'll boost my character's age a little though, sixteen is just ridiculous.

Still have to go over the details but I'm definitely forming an idea of my character now. The illegitimate child of an aristocrat who grew in poverty in Altdorf, joing the cult of Ranald and has a burning desire to cheat the more corrupt and cruel nobles out of their gold. Think Kind Hearts and Coronets with a little less murder.

Hey everyone, I have created a WFRP 4e template and everyone should have a character sheet that they are able to edit. The character sheet name should either be the name of your character if you have mentioned it or your user name.

Let me know if you are unable to edit your character.

The character sheet is generated using HTML tags in ruBB. I tried to use easy tables and grids but wanted to do a little more than the easy tables were allowing me. If you don't know how to fill out the appropriate sections in the HTML tags to fill in you character sheet then please let me know and we'll work it out.

I like how things are coming together.

Mostly done on Erika Kleiber, Priestess of Ranald.

Erika is a twenty year old from Altdorf. A mother was a serving girl and her father is Graf von Stresslan of the numerous and wealthy aristocratic von Stresslan clan. The young nobleman wooed Erika's mother and then callously threw her out onto the street when the prospect of a rich marriage came along. Even though Erika was born only a few months later and quite obviously his child von Stresslan wanted nothing to do with the 'embarrassment' and threatened Erika's mother if she ever approached him again. She died when Erika was still young, still naively dreaming her prince would come - a lesson not lost on her cynical daughter.

Erika had a tough few years growing up in poverty but her natural wit and charm allowed her to find a position in one of Altdorf's bordellos and from there eventually to the Cult of Ranald. She's an enthusiastic believer in the idea that the rich, corrupt and cruel should be parted from their gold. This is less outright greed (though she definitely prefers to live in wealth than poverty) than a sincere streak of anger at injustice, usually kept beneath a calmer, charming exterior. She's genuinely grateful to the Ranaldites for every chance they've given her and hopes to impress them - and the trickster god himself.

As a devout follower of Ranald Erika tries to steer away from violence and mayhem, though she knows how to use a dagger if need be. She much prefers cons and bloodless thefts.

Her long term ambition is to bring down the von Stresslan clan and take over their wealth and power, which she will use to finance the Cult of Ranald throughout Reikland
