Round #13
The Cargo Hold - Fishman, Sil, Nathaniel, Nicholas, Arthur, Asar, Angok, Ms.S Spiritual Enemies
Nic watched in terror as some of the wriggling shadow from the coal hold wrapped around his leg from around the box he was using for cover. It suddenly tugged him into the air and began to pull him towards the now cold boiler. However he could see more of the black glittering tentacles slithering across the gap between his friends below him for just a moment as he shined light forward into the coal deck, he could see the unholy things, perhaps even the veins of the ship itself, writhing in the piles of unburnt coal and all meeting at the boiler like a mouth.
Angok burst onto the scene running at full sprint. He sees the scene as has been described to the others, the fishman, the green ghosts, the black tentacles. He sees these last ones advancing on some of the team, in particular Silvia. He slams into the tentacle with his fist ,and it flies apart like a piece of ashen firewood. He looks back to see Sil in pain, and writhing on the ground. She seemed to be transforming into the cursed creatures of this vessel.
Nathan shrieked and ran at Ace a bit further back, he is seemingly unable to conjure magic in his current state. The Nate-creature grabs his head at the last moment before running headlong into his force field, fighting the urge to allow the curse to dominate him and destroy him fully. Finally, he turns and calls forth his powers and destroys some more of the spirits by transforming them into chunks of amorphous material, that rang out like a gong on the metal deck plating. There appeared to be only a few low powered wisps of spirit energy around the statue now. They might yet win the day!
Arbiter, on behalf of Nathaniel Roivas, rolled 82 using 1d100. psyche roll resist curse.
Ms.Sanderson appears just after Angok and she appraises the situation coolly. Finally she takes action, seeing the center of attention under attack by a fishman. She takes a flying leap into a crescent kick, hiking up her skirts a bit in the process. The back of her heel slams into the Atlantean’s head with a whack that reverberates through the hold. He doesn’t move for a moment then begins to slowly regain a crouched position. She glances at Ace quickly,
“do tell, what have you all been up to down here,” as she parries a few more tentacles weaving their way.
“Well if you aim to do something with this, anyone, I suggest you do it sooner than later!”
The
Hold spirits were down but not gone and continuing to attack at random, the newcomers each will have a close encounter of the spiritual kind. Each of the spirits manages to break the normal defenses of the newcomers and plunge into their chests. One sign of their current weakness however is that they are not appearing as humanoids any longer, formless fast moving smoke trails, but moving with direction and with insight, like a snake might. Once they’d plunged into each person, they must resist or be cast into the shape of those awful creatures.
(Asar, Angok and Ms.S will have to make an Endurance check or begin to succumb to the effects of the transformation curse)
Sil fought with the curse coursing inside of her, she was only barely able to keep on fighting it. She would succumb soon. She coughs and begins to feel heat reentering her cheeks, for now at least. She shouts to Ms.S through the haze of her ordeal, the breath coming out in ragged bursts, “Ah crapper, don’t kill him, he got the first riddle wrong though, it’s not wisdom, it's School!”
The
Atlantean managed a moaning gurgle as he managed to crawl the last few feet to the statue. It hisses in response to Sil and Asar,
“correct World Walker,” it seems to say reluctantly,
“and ‘night sky’ also perfect Anunnanki. The last is confusing to me, like goose was in first question:
I run, but never walk.
I roar, but have no mouth.
I sparkle, but am not a star.
I wash, and grow dirty.
I fall without being called.
I rise without being woken.
Without me all men perish.
Within me life and death.”
The statue itself lay partially cut through and cracked, but not destroyed. Before the figure of Tiamat was a large tablet she appeared to be holding before her, covered with cuneiform inscriptions and pictographs. To those who venture towards it to look, figures are depicted fighting and some cataclysm happening between the two fighting forces. It appears to be a deluge of some kind.
Ace switches to fend off the wave of black tentacles, what he finds startles him. When he envelopes some of the tentacles he actually severs them in the field and after those bits are trimmed back they fall harmlessly to the decking as ash. He continues to try to trap some of the reaching strands but they seem to begin to slowly regrow, but he is succeeding in holding them back for now. Saving Asar to bring more of them to heel as well.
Asar throws out invisible lines of force to grapple the tentacles pushed back by Ace and suddenly they appear to be free to pursue their investigation. So long as they held onto what they’d accomplished they could keep the tentacles at bay indefinitely. What exactly was causing this curse and what’s the thing Nic says he feels so drawn to...
Round #14 Spirits declaration: The black coal has Nic currently and intends to eat him if Asar will let him. Asar or Ace will have to let go of his attention on grappling the tentacles in order to save Nic. Nic can also attempt to free himself but he better wait a round or it will be a two story drop.
Frogman-Nathaniel: Will make another psyche roll to see if he can overcome the curse mental reprogramming. If he does he will put an end to the spirit menace. If he fails he’ll probably attack one of the nearest people at random.
Main Deck Battle - Phoenix, Roach, Geo, Frogmen
Phoenix manages control over his inferno long enough to allow Geo to take off after the man clings to Sam like a long limbed child, his clothes ill-fitting in his emaciated state. He flashes out seeking to deal damage to some of the creature’s Roach was hell bent on, but comes up a bit short. He does however manage to drive some back from the entrance to the hold.
The trip is a momentary reprieve for
Geo as he heads towards the other boat. The storm continued but had lessened in it’s intensity. The man sobbing with relief manages to croak into your torn coat,
“I’m Grant August, sir, you have my...thanks.”
Roach rages at the two targets that had presented themselves, he leaps into them but can’t get the control he needs to deal his damage in the scant few moments since he’d leapt. Suddenly he was crushed into the middle of them as if he’d knocked sense into them, kicking and clawing, shedding their stunned demeanor, they hissed maliciously and began to swarm him. As he quickly scrambled out of the path of fanged faces, multiples came charging in, their collisions pushing him forward to crash through the railing and over the edge in a mass of tangled bodies.
Round #13
Frogs on Deck Declarations: Phoenix and Geo see now only two of the long limbed menaces. They howled maddeningly and began to gallop and skitter towards the blaze in a b-line for Phoenix.
