(OOC: My plans do not rest upon a certain location, so feel free to give me a location, any location, sketch it out for us as you walk down the street.)


 Rose and Davin collect their things decide to disembark from the train in the great city of Berlin. At this point in history, the Germans were an economic powerhouse and have just formed the Triple Alliance. The air is tense, you can hear the paperboys crying the news. War was likely, only a matter of time. It's the front page of all the journals. Lots of international posturing happening. The policemen that patrol the streets and the stations were on high alert and very suspicious. Though they don't give either of you a hard time. It's early evening, the air is cold and crisp, there is snow falling with an inch on the ground already, the skies are grey with patches of darkness.

Davin steps off the train and gazes around the station, his mind lightly probing the others around him. He was searching for three things. The location of a good tea shop, anyone who was paying any undue attention to the two of them, and if the unwilling spy was trying to make contact with the one who was spying. Davin seems to be unbothered by the cold as he looks around with interest and then cocks his head to one side as he finds some of the information he was seeking. "Ms. Blankenship, I believe a local tea shop is right down this street, it sits on the corner of a place called the..... Gendarmenmarkt?  Which seems to be a place of interest." Holding his hand out as though to catch some of the falling snow, he bows slightly towards Rose, "I am uncertain if you feel the cold as others do, if you do and it become to cold please tell me."

The square that Davin leads Rose to has a giant statue at the center of a set of sculpted gardens. The statue is of a young man staring out across the square while around him at the corners of the plinth he stands on are four other figures. They are softly draped in snow. The square itself is only partially covered with snow, much of it disturbed by the foot traffic that crisscrossed the busy and bustling area. Behind the statue stands a large concert hall and flanking the concert hall two great churches stand watch over the city all draped in white. "I think this will do." The restaurant had high windows and allowed a sweeping view of the open square.

Rose's thoughts were fast and troubled as she disembarked from the train. She'd picked up a heavy coat on her way off the train, giving her an opportunity to subtly collect her passport and other essentials from her cabin before disembarking. There was a distinct possibility she would simply be fleeing this place by other means of transportation rather than getting back on the train.

"I'll do that, thank you," she said to Davin when he brought up the cold. Her manner was polite and friendly but clearly distracted. She looked around as they approached the tea shop. "It's a lovely place... good choice, Mr. Mandic. Have you visited Berlin before?"

Davin looks out across the square and shakes his head with a smile, "No, I have been traveling mostly in the south of Europe. Spain, Italy, France, Greece, Montenegro, Austra-Hungary, and Serbia." Davin's smile turns crooked and he tilts his head to one side, "I have been on the move quiet a lot over the last few years." Reaching into his coat pocket he pulls out a small notebook and pencil that he writes a quick note on and folds it carefully before sliding it across the table to Rose. Glancing up as a waiter came to their table. "Do you have an idea what you might like?"

Rose nodded to Davin's comment about his traveling. "I don't travel much at all, this is my first time in Europe." She took the note and read it. That was curious, but after a moment she opted to nod. It seemed worth a try at least, whatever it is. "Ah... Black tea, whatever you think would go well with cream and sugar please," she said uncertainly to the waiter. She didn't know anything about German tea culture, or for that matter speak German.

Davin accepts the order with a nod. The waiter who approaches is a rather stiff looking german male in his early twenties. Davin decides to try Hungarian first, "If you have it Black Tea for the both of us, along with a few sandwiches. Should that not work he will switch English.
Once the order is taken and the waiter is on his way, Davin glances out over the view frowning slightly, "I have only been traveling for the last few years. My mother, now she is the traveler of our family. She spends more time abroad then she does at home. That is part of why I am traveling how I am. Much of Europe. Then the Far East, perhaps Japan and China before making the journey across the Pacific....yes the Pacific."

 The waiter nods with a sniff and hurries off to fill your order. The ambiance is nice, the decor mostly wood with some plants for color. The waitstaff seems cordial if a little bit uncomfortable with foreign languages, but they deal with it passably well.

 As tea arrives, the pair noticed that the sky has begun to darken outside. The warm hearth within the restaurant allows most of the patrons to disrobe from their winter garb.

Rose was startled and showed it, but quickly made an effort to regain her composure. She opted to speak aloud as she came to terms with everything Davin had said. "My, that's practically making a trip around the world," she said slowly, still distracted. "You say your mother is the reason, do you plan on linking up with her travels along this itinerary?"


"Thank you," she said politely to the waiter when he returned with their tea. She was starting to get warm too, but she held off on removing her coat for now. She proceeded to add sugar and plenty of cream to her tea, partly because she liked the taste and partly just to cool it.

Davin nods his head in thanks towards the waiter before glancing outside, "No, she is at least so far as I know at home and will be for the next little while. My great uncle and great aunt have requested she do some work for them. She might be required to travel, but it will be for business not pleasure."
Davin frowns into the gloomy sky in thought eyes scanning.

 The lamps near the cafe begin to get lit and the lighters continue down the street. Near the lamp in a jutting section of wall, however, stands a man of uncommon tallness and thinness, dressed in a fine dark-colored suit but no winter accouterments to speak of. You have to do a double-take to make sure your eyes aren't tricking you. He stares into the cafe for a moment before moving off beyond the scope of the windows, pale gaunt eyes scanning, and verifying both of you just before. Because Davin saw the man, Rose notices him too. The strange sight causes a moment's alarm in both of you.

"I see," Rose said. Her tone was polite and fairly neutral, in keeping with small talk with a man she didn't know very well yet. She sipped her tea quietly after that.
Her quiet teatime was interrupted slightly when she followed Davin's gaze outside.

Davin's eyes catch sight of the odd man. Davin could have walked through the weather without a coat and not felt it, but for anyone else..... Davin sent out a weak pulse of thought an inquiry more then anything else to feel if he could read the man's mind or sense it before he took the plunge and tried to get anything more definitive. "I think we should return to the train once we finish our tea."

Rose gave a sigh, partly disappointed and partly disgruntled, before she began drinking her tea with a little more haste.

Davin's eyes begin to flicker around the room as his thoughts skip from one person to the next and he finished his own tea with perhaps more haste then politeness would allow.

Rose managed to down her tea fairly quickly without sipping or gulping it loudly. She nodded to Davin, then said "I suppose we should get back then." She took her purse into her lap as she waited to see whether he planned on covering the full tab. This certainly wasn't a courtship meeting, so she didn't expect him to, but perhaps he would anyways.

Davin nodded his head and then connected his thoughts to the waiter skimming his mind for what would be an adequate tip and then pulls out his wallet and covers the bill - and just short of what the waiter would consider a good tip. Davin was often puzzled by the customs of Europe, but he was well taught in petty revenge. "Indeed, I am certain you will want to get comfortable for the next leg of the journey."

 A few minutes later the pair was ready to leave the cafe. There was some uncertainty about the man they'd seen outside yet they could see no sign of the man now as they get up to leave. They received waves and smiles as they opened the doors.

 Outside, however, they notice the street beginning to quiet down from the day's activities. Some of the shops were beginning to close. There were many people out whom seemed to be heading home or the small bands of men heading to the pubs. Otherwise, they were alone on the snowy sidewalks. The falling snow seemed to muffle sounds and everything had a strange echo to it. Shadows had begun to grow long and alleyways seemed to become less inviting. Yet from one of those shadowed alleys nearby a voice calls to Davin and Rose, but it makes not sounds while it does so, rather, it calls to them by sending its thoughts, as Davin does. *Lordship, pardon my impudence, but I could find nowhere else to turn. Can you help a poor countryman from your kingdom?*

 If Rose or Davin looks hard they see the dark outline of the man, who, using some sort of trick, seems to be using the shadows to grant himself cover from any mundane passerby in the dark corners of the alley.

Davin almost misses a step as the voice echoes in his head. Coming to a stop Davin's eyes flicker around the area as his mind does the same. Speaking very softly, "Ms. Blankenship please keep an eye out for anyone or anything untoward and be ready to move quickly." Davin slows and orients on the shadowy figure in the alley. Careful to broadcast to both the figure and Rose, *Make yourself known and I shall see what I may do. Though it will be long before I see the sun set over Chernabog.*
