Out of Character Banter

Please post if you want to talk about anything not directly related to in-game stuff or conversations out of character related to the game to communicate intention and for planning your actions as a team to some degree to create your cinematic montages.

When possible communicate through your characters in game for most other things.

I'll be posting here to communicate with the general player group and Private Messaging for more personal issues. Feel free to use the PMs for personal threads, for both in character and out of character.

So due to the overwhelming response to the game, it looks like we have already filled up available slots and have several extra Requests. So eleven people have put their hat in so far. I will have to make some choices about how to bring the number of entrants down to a manageable number. So be prepared for that if I end up making some difficult choices.

The flip side of this is that 90% of the games I've been involved in on RPoL have a pretty high turnover, so if you feel like this might not work out for you after all, please let me know and I can usher one of our waiting requests into development.

For those waiting on a response from me, just sit tight for a bit and I'll get to everyone in due course.

Ok, so I've spoken to everyone and hope to see some interesting characters. I've added five folks already. Feel free to post up here to say hiya to everyone and talk a bit about your characters. I'll be finalizing the roster and posting an introductory thread by Friday at the latest to get us rolling.

I'm taking a holiday overnight Wednesday just so you know I won't be able to see or respond from our campgrounds. Feel free to chat and make some characters until then.

For my added players, brainstorm some equipment you'd like to bring, could be anything personal or utilitarian so long as it conforms to the 1908 era and your character could carry it or pack it without much trouble. As this first expedition will take us into the Siberian Taiga forests.

Out of Character Banter

Greetings and Salutations fellow believers!

My character goes by the name Asar Uludu in the states. He learned English in Britain so he doesn't sound like an American. On top of that, English is not his native language and he speaks with an accent that nobody seems to be able to place. Asar is most likely to be along as an expert in Antiquities and the Paranormal. There does not seem to be an ounce of fat on Asar and his muscles ripple on his 6'6" frame even if he does look like he is in his 50's. It is hard to accurately gauge his age due to his very full beard. He prefers to oil the beard to make it very curly and narrow, but that is not always available in the wild.

Things to bring:
Full camping kit, Forensics Kit, ropes and harness, telescope, signaling mirrors, journal, cracker tins, large peanut butter jar, condensed milk, spare pair of boots, extra undergarments and socks, and cold weather gear.....AND mules (and fodder)!

I’m playing Ms. Sanderson, based on an actual historical character. I am going to be making her pretty cool marvel comics version of the original person.

In reply to Ms. Sanderson (msg # 6):

Looking forward to seeing that. According to the link, she was pretty damn cool already.

As for me, I'll be joining you as Hiram Brull, or Roach as he's been called more often the last few years on account of him being almost frighteningly Good at surviving hardship despite having the general temperament and demeanor of a shy cockerspaniel. He's about as threatening as one too.
He is tall and lanky if not quite gaunt with a tendency to hunch over, and somehow manages to seem scruffy Even if cleaned up and put in Nice clothing. He has perpetually shaggy, unruly hair and the beginnings of a five o clock shadow within hours after shaving.
All in all, he neither looks nor acts like someone Even remotely qualified for this sort of work we're getting into.

So well met all :)

EDIT: oh, and as for what our character Will be bringing, Hiram will have little to nothing. Partly because, as a homeless man he has nothing, partly because his powers leaves him not needing a lot of the ammenities, strictly speaking. But mostly because he, again, is woefully unqualified and has no idea what's Best to bring.

If Ace fixes automobiles then he is VERY rare indeed. The year the game starts is also the year that Ford started mass producing the Model-T :-).

This is going to be a VERY odd group that is for sure! Looking forward to it certainly.

Yes, I look forward to how things progress with this group. I actually took automobile engineering as well, so we may even get to develop our own vehicles at some point.

I REALLY thought about it, but I've made random characters in this system before, sometimes they are wonderful but most of the time they are just...all over the place with weird abilities that don't mesh together, heh. I mean, the source of my character's powers could easily explain the randomness, but I meh. =)

And my character's Talents are not all combat related.

Re: Out of Character Banter

I rolled My character just for the heck of it. Ended up with stats ranging from Good to Amazing. Only Psyche is below typical, and ended up Poor.
As for Powers, I got Animal mimicry, digestive adaptability and berserker. An Odd mix, but one I could fit into My character concept of a homeless Guy stress-mutating to adapt to hardships.
As for Talents, I rolled stealth, and only got a second one because I lowered My Resources from Poor to feeble, as one can do. That talent is Languages, because it fit into My backstory, and can be situationally useful.

So I was pretty Lucky with the randomizer.

Whereas I, on the other hand, just now rolled up a random character on the dice roller and got an Animal with 11 powers ranging from Matter Conversion powers to Mental Enhancement powers, and a few things in between, lol.

Re: Out of Character Banter

Animal mimicry will be useful around you!

Great concepts so far. I'm not sure if there will be a brief dossier on expedition members, but if so...

The expedition notes explain that "Miss Silina" is a lecturer at a college for young women in Washington, DC, where she teaches languages and psychology. She is fluent in Russian and will be the expedition's translator. She also distinguished herself recently by solving an outstanding U.S. government cryptography challenge. Her surname is inconsistent in the notes. Usually, it is written as Silina, which is a Russian surname; in one section, it is Miss Silver.

She is bringing basic outdoor supplies, lightly packed, likely with the intention of acquiring heavier winter gear upon arrival. She is taking a few articles of clothing and other personal effects, all chosen more for efficiency than sentiment.

I rolled randomly.  It was a very creative experience.

Yeah, I went point buy this time around. The animal was just a test to see if my random character luck holds, and it did, lol.

Re: Out of Character Banter

Point buy for me, I wanted to see how it works since I have never used the point buy system. It did take multiple drafts of the character before the GM and I settled on the final form.

I think that making a random character would be eminently more fun if players had say 100 points to modify their rolls. If you rolled a Vegetable for Physical Form, but you thought playing a Changeling would be more fun, you could put 9 points to make that roll a 100 or reduce that roll by 9 points and be a human shaped robot. This way you get to effect things a little bit to make things not be completely random.

Re: Out of Character Banter

No leaving anything to those dirty chances for me. I selected Telekinesis and Force Field to last as long as I possibly can.

For a fun side adventure, maybe the GM will take us all to another dimension where we will face nemeses that we have randomly rolled. I look forward to battling a sentient pork chop with reality alteration powers.

Hey, that's a great idea! LOL

Anyway, I'm back finally (thanks for everyone's patience), we now have our roster! Excelsior and Salutations true believers! I'll try to get an introductory thread up today yet to get us started on our expeditions. Once I get it going, feel free to post an introduction and full description for everyone to imagine as you enter the room! I'll try to be available for the next couple days to reply as often as I can to get us rolling fast. ^_^

Can you make a separate thread for all the pics? I can’t read the writing, it’s too tiny and I’m too ancient. =-D
