The Tunguska Mission

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...0%93Siberian_Railway
November 1908, Team Assigned to investigate an explosive event over
the Siberian region known as Tunguska. The train will go from an
adjoining train meeting in Moscow and heading East. The plan is to
disembark just past Krasnoyarsk before the rail line heads south.
From there your Russian porter(Dimitri Krasnov) hired by the General
will take the team to Vanavara Trading Post, which is NNE 620km across
simple wagon trails from your disembarkment. From there, the blast
is 25km due North.

The explosion registered at seismic stations across Eurasia, and
airwaves from the blast were detected in Germany, Denmark, Croatia,
the United Kingdom, and as far away as Batavia and Washington, D.C.
It is estimated that, in some places, the resulting shock wave was
equivalent to an earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter magnitude
scale. Over the next few days, night skies in Asia and Europe
were aglow, with contemporaneous reports of photographs being
successfully taken at midnight in Sweden and Scotland. In the
United States, a Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory program
at the Mount Wilson Observatory in California observed a months-long
decrease in atmospheric transparency consistent with an increase
in suspended dust particles. This appears to have been the primary
source of the recent emergence of powers but cannot be verified
until the expedition can unearth the reality of the situation...

-General Sawyer, US Office of Expeditionary Operations or USOEO.

-Penny Roberts, British Intelligence

-Ms.Sanderson, British Intelligence agent

-Dimitri Krasnov, a porter hired to escort the team, translate and provide transport when needed.

-The Mauretania: Largest steam ship of it's day, the ship the team is using to cross the Atlantic towards the goal.

(Just to note this is an actual event that happened, with some creative liberty of course. It's so interesting and still a bit of a mystery as to what it actually was but suffice to say much of my info here is actual data from the time.)
