Re: OOC - God Talk with your host, The Almighty
Hi
So right now none of you have connected with a familiar but some of you have asked about it and some are about to connect with one. I have to admit that the question as to whether a familiar can be connected with without KILLING it has come up and originally I said no to that but the more I thought about it the question became: Why not?
The monster system as it is is going to stay as it is part of the whole story set up BUT familiars I found could be expanded upon.
So before anyone gets a familiar, here is the new rule concerning them:
1) A Familiar can be connected with via a monsters soul or by BINDING with the soul of a living monster.
2) Binding with a LIVING Monster will have an essence charge of 250 Essence as it requires effort to bind the divinity and the living soul together. This cost is doubled if the binding of a LIVING MONSTER is done with a MORTAL.
3) Binding a MONSTER SOUL (so a dead monster) with a Divinity costs nothing. Binding it with a mortal is as described in the rules
4) Binding ANY monster (living or dead) to another (Divinity or Mortal) follows the rules of INCARNATION as to how much free will the monster has (One gains a +2 for a dead monsters soul being bound vs a living monster). If the monsters can resist the divinity and chooses to do so (unwillingly bound, to strong willed to submit etc) it will remain as such until such time as the divinity is able to suppress its urges to diverge from the Divinities will and begin the bonding process and becoming one with the Divinity. If it can resist and chooses to resist it will be able to act of its own accord but can always be removed from the physical world by the Divinity as its soul remains bound to that of the Divinity/Mortal.
Now basically what this means:
Familiars can be bound through willing live ones without having to kill them. They do have a chance to act of their own free will but if they connect willingly they will normally begin to take on the properties of the domain of the deity as well as his temperment more quickly. While they may retain some autonomy if they are strong willed (See Incarnation rules), willing souls will normally act to the gods benefit.
A familiar bound that is strong willing (see incarnation rules) and not controlled by the deity may act of their own accord, sometimes to the detriment of the deity/mortal that called them forth. Such souls will normally not progress in rank as they cannot grow stronger than what they are unless fully bounded with the divine/mortal and work as one. Thus over time the deity is sure to overpower the soul of the monster and once that happens the familiar will become one with the divine and become aligned and grow from there.
Choosing a powerful monster soul/living monster as a familiar has its perks but its dangers as well.
Note that familiars will grow in strength, once aligned with the deity/mortal. Once aligned a familiar will not deviate from the deities will/wants as they will be one and the same.
