OOC: Oof, that's true--I was struggling to think who to target on the dice rolling screen, and completely forgot what I had just read here. I suppose the target would be, uh, the swordswoman, then.

Re: A1: Slave Pits of the Undercity

10:00, Today: Dungeon Master, for the NPC Swordswoman, rolled 11 using 1d20.  Save vs Spell.

Falan's spell entangles both the orcs and the swordswoman. They struggle to break free, but the silky strands are too strong. The fight is over, and they are at your mercy.
The orcs scream in terror, but the swordswoman keeps a fiery look in her eyes and curses, angry that she's been bested in 'such an underhanded way'.
The slave merchant, who'd been backing up slowly as the fight built up, now turns and flees running for the exit on the opposite end of the room. To run after him you'd need to go past the web spell, which could prove tricky.

OOC: I'd like to point out that some of you are dangerously low on hit points if my records are correct. Check the 'Quick Reference' thread.

"Underhanded?" Bernhard says to the swordswoman. "Winning is winning."

"Quit your complaining!" he says to the orcs in orcish. "Drop your weapons and don't try anything and we'll let you go when this is finished."

Bernhard turns to their new friend.

"Who is she?" he asks pointing to the swordswoman. "I assume she's dangerous."

Re: A1: Slave Pits of the Undercity

The orcs that still uselessly clutched their weapons even in their entanglement drop them. One of them points at a metallic ring on the ground - it is a set of keys, one for each of the cells. About time! I was beginning to think I was going to rot in this cell forever. Wait... Limos, is that you? The spy quickly moves up to the cell and kneels. "Lady Alina! I've gathered these men to rescue you. Forgive the delay, but as you've surely seen, the enemies in our way were numerous. But you need not fear, these brave knights slew them all! With haste, now, open the cell."

The swordswoman mutters something. "Well, I don't know the details, but I think she was a gladiatorial champion of some kind", the slaver says. "Killed a manticore with her bare hands, or so they said."

"What are you doing working for these scum?" Bernhard asks the swordwoman. "Someone of your talent could earn a lot more tearing down their empire than they'll ever pay you."

Bernhard pulls a gem from his belt pouch to show her.

"Plenty more where that came from."

Thorik likes how Bernhard is thinking, the more swords the better and one that has fought in the pits might prove very helpful.

"A gem? You attempt to bribe me with petty riches?" The swordswoman spits at your feet. "A true warrior fights not for money, but for honor! You, who resort to cheap tricks, have none. And I would lose mine if I gave up my loyalty, forged in fire and blood, for the mere promise of coin. Were I not bound by these webs, I would show you what a true fighting spirit really is!"

Mercenary Lady:
"A true warrior fights not for money, but for honor!"

Ronan's eyes had settled on the webbed woman long enough before Falan's blade had pierced her heart for him to castigate her: "True, you're a swearer of vows and no breaker of oaths. You've chained yourself to ideas, and in doing so, you're no more than a slave yourself, a heartless slave to your principles."

He observes Falan drawing his sword and moving near her.

"Let us remind you where it is and what it is to feel it."

Re: A1: Slave Pits of the Undercity

The swordswoman stares Falan in the face as the steel saps her life's blood. The light fades from her eyes, and her body hangs limp from the webs. The orcs watch in horror, probably thinking they're also going to be summarily executed.

A crowd of slaves forms in the center of the room as you open the cells and release captives. They're malnourished, hurt and scared, but something in them still  yearns for freedom. Unsure of what destiny has yet in store for them, they look to you for guidance.

"Whether sellswords or noble knights, you have performed a great deed today. I will make sure that my father rewards you accordingly when we reach our lands," Lady Alina says. "Until then, we have a long road ahead of ourselves. Lead the way, friends", adds Limos, the spy.

Thorik takes off his waterskin and takes out the bulk of his rations and walks over the Lady,

"No one can travel on the dreams of freedom alone, parse this out amongst the others, they will need energy to journey".

He looks around at the rest of the group to see if others will join in sharing with this weakened people.  Thorik is decent enough but the gesture isn't uncalculated, trying to escape with a bunch of weakened slaves isn't good strategy.

Re: A1: Slave Pits of the Undercity

The food and drink does the slaves well. They begin to regain some of their strength and vitality. You even catch a glimp of what might be determination and the sprouting seeds of courage.

The charmed slaver clicks his tongue. "We might go that way, but the path passes through the aspis caves. Or if you went through the pits instead, you'd take the longer road; you see, over there," he points to the exit at the other end of the room," is a hidden passage. We take it and we'll get through the sewers faster than you can say 'indentured servitude'."
