Alright everyone, feel free to put your character concepts in here. It'd be better to put them in here, due to point two from the expectations thread:

quote:
2. All game materials must be accessible on this platform. The idea is that everything is accessible right here on the site. That means you'll be maintaining your character sheet here on the site, your rolls will be performed through the on-site dice roller, and any truly important messages should be left here on the OOC thread, rather than in our discord.

If you put character concepts in here, we can reference them without wading through a sea of messages reading "I posted." :)

I'll finish the lore stuff tomorrow.

Transgender Character?

Hey, so I know I said I was going to make my character a possible Devlin Clone? Well I came up with a really great "defect" in their design - that is, their chromosomes were set up wrong, accidentally giving them assets they weren't too happy with when they were ejected from the test-tube. Basically what I'm saying is that this clone would be a transgender woman, which I think would be pretty neat.

Occult Skill

I also wanna ask, unrelated to the last post I made - is the Occult Skill basically your knowledge of magic and weird shit? Or is it more like the COC Occult Skill where it's more just folk-knowledge and hear-say.

Occult skill would cover both of these things, and will be the skill for your powers.

I answered some questions for you on the Discord, and I'll append some additional clarifications here:

-You can absolutely play a trans character, and I encourage that. Various genetic alterations were produced in the clones, which could include or induce such a thing.
-You were educated by a computer which uploaded data into your brain while you were in suspended animation.
-Your knowledge base only covers up to shortly before the bombs fell, at which point the computer ceased receiving updates. (Due to the bombs and ensuing conflict, all facilities were left unattended.)
-You could carry a (ghost-steel?) data slug or data pad containing the program which taught you, if you want. It wouldn't be AI, but it could be sentimental.
-You could have implanted Sybil Rose Devlin memories, if you want.
-You probably have a higher-than-average knowledge of Pentacorp and its pre-war inner workings, which could prove valuable in some circumstances.
-Witches technically have standard trappings for certain powers, but for others you should feel free to come up with your own as needed.
-It's pretty likely that on some level you'll be multifaceted. Think about what your character will do, other than "being a badass witch lady." This could even take on some character-building relevance
-I'll try to include a summary of the Devlin plotline for your benefit in the loredump.
-Keep in mind that in Deadlands we play heroic characters, so the Devlin witches kind of takes on a sort of tragic aspect, since Mina Devlin and all of her descendants until now have basically been straightforwardly evil, Mina herself having become one of the most brutal and notorious Rail Barons to establish her family's fortune.

If you have some familiarity with the broader world of Savage Worlds, you can feel free to snag Edges out of SWADE or the newer Deadlands: The Weird West as well (just let me know which ones).

For Aisling, I could see these archetypes:

Adventurer, law dog, postman, road warrior (if you're willing to diversify and add some cars into the mix here), "savage," scavenger, or a tale teller (if you're willing to diversify into social skills).

If you really want to put a weird twist on the Certified Punch Queen™ you could be a Librarian, Cyborg, Doomsayer, Ravenite, Syker, or Toxic Shaman. The game's flexible enough to allow you to go in 2 directions at once.

You'll likely want to pick up Martial Artist or Brawler at creation and the other later on, at any rate.

Re: OOC

Hearing that Finn's looking at bein' an old-fashioned GUN-SLANGER, and Julio's looking at playin' an old-fashioned SLUDGE GUY.

Er, sorry, TOXIC SHAMAN is the type of character.

Or maybe a ROAD WARRIOR, which is just another kind of SLUDGE GUY, if you think about it.

question: does "clothes on back" for gear during character creation ... can that include Clothes that are in the Gears List or do I have to buy items if they are on that gear list if I imagine my character has them?

You'd have to buy anything you get a benefit from, but regular clothes are for free.

One problem I've picked up on is that some of y'all missed my note in the Character Creation thread about the skills. Basically, I'd like to have y'all use the SWADE skills, because they make more sense than the Deluxe edition skills in Hell on Earth Reloaded.

See this here:

The Skills Thing:
Note that Psionics and Weird Science are skills in Hell on Earth Reloaded.

Note, also, that some skills from the previous edition of Savage Worlds have been folded into other skills. Therefore, the full skill list for the game is this:

  • Academics (Smarts)
  • Athletics (Agility)
  • Battle (Smarts)
  • Boating (Agility)
  • Common Knowledge (Smarts) [This is a Core Skill, meaning you start with a d4]
  • Driving (Agility)
  • Fighting (Agility)
  • Gambling (Smarts)
  • Healing (Smarts)
  • Intimidation (Spirit)
  • Notice (Smarts)
  • Occult (Smarts)
  • Performance (Spirit)
  • Persuasion (Spirit)
  • Repair (Smarts)
  • Research (Smarts)
  • Riding (Agility)
  • Shooting (Agility)
  • Stealth (Agility)
  • Survival (Smarts)
  • Taunt (Smarts)
  • Thievery (Agility)

And these additional skills:

  • Psionics (Smarts)
  • Weird Science (Smarts)
  • Faith (Spirit)

I made one mistake, which is that I didn't originally include Faith, the standard arcane skill for cleric-y type characters like the Toxic Shaman. For this reason, Julio, you will need to essentially do a full rebuild of your character to make them tenable.

Check the lore thread. Ghost steel is derived from ghost rock, which is a mineral that changed the history of technology from the time of its discovery in the 19th century.

Same as regular steel, actually. A lot of people imagined ghost rock as "green," but actually it resembled coal with white veins in it.

For some reason I imagined Ghost Rock was teal and Ghost Steel as like shiny white. Now I'm imagining Ghost Steel looking like Damascus Steel.
