Elizabeth put her phone down and fell asleep.

Her siblings were underfoot as always; it also appeared that a bag with something in it had been hung on the doorknob of the front door.

Elizabeth opened the bag to see what was in there.

...pastries, oddly.  Fairly nice ones, too.

That was odd. Did they look okay or that there was something wrong with them?

There were no signs of problems with them.

Elizabeth tried one.

...peach flavored, apparently.  Good quality, too.

Elizabeth decided to hide them until she was sure they were 100% safe for the rest of the family.

Perhaps that was a wise decision.  And her siblings were stirring...

Elizabeth began to make some breakfast.

They came thundering downstairs.

"...what smells like peaches?" one asked.

"I don't know what you mean," Elizabeth said. "I'm making bacon and eggs."

"Yay, bacon!" said Alex, but Samantha was still looking around suspiciously.

"Something wring?" Elizabeth asked her.

"...just thought I smelled fruit," said Samantha.  "Kids need fruit and veggies, you know."

"Sadly, not today. You can have an apple if you want," Elizabeth said.

She sighed dramatically, but ate the apple with great enthusiasm.

"Your lunches are made and everything as usual," Elizabeth said. "Can I trust you two to lock up?"

"All right," said Samantha.  Clearly she intended to take charge of her brother for this purpose.

"I'm heading to school early, so be good you two," Elizabeth said.

"We will!" Samantha promised.  Her intentions were good, at least...

Elizabeth headed to school.
