It wasn't the biggest church, but wow, it really looked the part.  Big old stone crosses and everything... and just being near it was uncomfortable for Elizabeth.

"I can definitely feel something and it isn't good," Elizabeth said.

"Well, can you use your powers?  Or are you gonna pass out?" Carly asked.  "How bad is it?"

"It's just uncomfortable," Elizabeth said, "Like I really don't belong here, but I'll try using my powers to teleport."

She grit her teeth and tried.

"Nothing."

"Okay," said Carly.  "So, not joining the choir, then."

"Yeah, maybe getting them here to talk would work, or at least show I'm serious," Elizabeth said,

"It sure would look like you don't have an ambush planned," said Carly.  "I hope you'd be able to talk fast, though..."

"It would have to be the reasonable ones," Elizabeth said.

"Oh, sure," said Carly.  "Pick and choose for now."

"Thanks for your support, Carly. It means a lot to me," Elizabeth said.

"Sure, no problem," said Carly.  "Hey, do you want me to try and set up a meeting?  I'll bet that they'll talk to me more easily."

"I'd be worried they'd go after you," Elizabeth said,

"I don't think I'm in that much danger," said Carly.  "I'll talk to them while other people are around."

"Okay, I guess that could work," Elizabeth said.

"Cool," said Carly.  "So, meet you here, when?"

"Here at eight pm should work," Elizabeth said.

"All right," said Carly.  "Make sure you're ready to look innocent and helpless, OK?"

"I feel plenty helpless in this dress," Elizabeth said.

Carly looked it over.

"...Well, I suppose," she said.  "But SELL it!"

"I'm trying my best," Elizabeth said.

"Absolutely," said Carly.  "So, I'll get this thing set up for you.  I'm sure you can handle it."

"Thanks, I should be getting home and get things ready for tomorrow," Elizabeth said.

"Cool," said Carly.  "And good luck!"

"Thanks, see you tomorrow!" Elizabeth said as she left.

Well, there was the church.  And it was dark-- no one was around, apparently.

"It's pretty creepy at night," Elizabeth said.

"Who's there?" a voice called, moving through the darkness.

"It's Elizabeth," Elizabeth said.

...Apparently, Carly had found the Dragon Girl!

"...So you really did show up here," she said, her voice wary.  Still, this was better than last time.  She hadn't attacked yet.

"I did, I wanted to try talking to you in a place that would show I was serious," Elizabeth said. "My other self told me what she had done to you and I want to apologize."

She approached Elizabeth.

"So why should I trust you?" she asked.

"I'm not looking for trust at this point. I'm just looking to talk," Elizabeth said.

"...all right," she said.  "But you'd better have a good story."

"I don't have any of her memories," Elizabeth said. "What ever happened has left her as something occupying part of my mind, but not a part of me."

"...Interesting, but you're still a demon," she said.  "Trusting you doesn't come naturally, you know."

"I mean, yes, technically," Elizabeth said. "But how many would be willing to meet you on hallowed ground?"

"Meaning what, exactly?" she asked.

"Uhhh...that I can't use any of my powers," Elizabeth said.

She advanced on Elizabeth.

"...I still have mine," she observed, lashing her tail.  "So... you're helpless right now?  You couldn't stop me if I attacked you?"

"No, but there's no need for that, this was to be a show of good faith," Elizabeth said.

She kept coming... and stopped, perhaps two inches from Elizabeth.

"...it's really true," she said.  "You made yourself vulnerable like this.  Trusting me to not hurt you.  Wow."

"I-I was hoping that it would show you I was serious," Elizabeth said.

"...Okay, it did," she said.  She hadn't moved back.  "Did not expect that out of you.  Kinda trying to process this."

"I want to try and heal the damage, her, I mean I did," Elizabeth said.

She looked Elizabeth over.

"Seriously?" she said.  "You still look like a demon, you know.  That's going to make it very hard on you."

"I know I look like that, but I don't feel like it," Elizabeth said,

The girl looked her over.

"...well, like this, it's actually kind of a cute look, anyway," she said.  "Better than the tail I've got."

"Thanks, your tail looks good," Elizabeth said.

"...you think so?" she said, dubiously.  "It's strong, but not really cute."

"Sure, but you are powerful," Elizabeth said.

"I guess so?" she said.  "...I'm working on control, too.  See?"

She demonstrated by wrapping her tail around Elizabeth's legs.  It was a very strong grip, but applied gently.

"That is impressive," Elizabeth said.

"Thanks," she said.  Abruptly she pulled Elizabeth closer.

"Uh...hi," Elizabeth said, unsure of what to do now.

"...So you seriously don't have powers here," she said.  "And you aren't even fighting... wow. Okay."

She released Elizabeth.

"I really don't want to fight you," Elizabeth said. "It wouldn't help anything."

"Yeah, but you weren't even trying to get away," she said.  "Didn't see that coming.  So... yeah.  Uh, my name is Dakota.  What's yours?"

"Elizabeth," Elizabeth said. "Have you been in contact with the other ones? I only know about one other."

"No, can't say that I have," she said.  "There are others?"

"There's a girl at school with wings that I didn't get the name of," Elizabeth said.

"I haven't seen her," said Dakota.  "Have you noticed that people are kinda bad about noticing these changes?"

"Yeah, I don't understand it," Elizabeth said. "It's not exactly subtle."

"...makes me wonder if I'm missing even more of them," said Dakota.  "I never spotted the winged girl at all."

"I don't know, that's all I've seen," Elizabeth said.

"Well, keep your eyes open, I guess," said Dakota.  "The next one might be even less reasonable."

"Do you know how many get reborn?" Elizabeth asked.

"No idea," said Dakota.  "Might be a bunch."

"Yeah. So,  um, thanks for listening," Elizabeth said.

"Sure," said Dakota.  "...I guess I'll see you around."

"I'll see you tomorrow," Elizabeth said, before heading home.
