Everyone let me know when you are ready to kick off. Anybody want to share their background with me is alright.

Re: OOC Chatter (1)

I think I'm essentially ready.  Starting on Dain soon-ish (unless my wife decides we're leaving).

Re: OOC Chatter (1)

As for my characters, at first level I don't have much background. Ulli seems to be a caveman of some sort. Piestar was raised in an odd temple that taught both the faith and spells. Unless you want more, that will probably be it.

Re: OOC Chatter (1)

I saw that weapon specialization is allowed.  Is double specialization?  (I ask because not all GMs allow double.)

Re: OOC Chatter (1)

Curious, as a multi-class character, can I be a specialist mage as well? Not sure if I want to, but I don't want to dig into it if I can't do it.

Going to look into Ulle being specialized in a weapon, as well.

Be nice if he used a bow, instead of a rock and a club as weapons.

Bump.

Also, if so, can one double spec at the start?  As you might expect, a guy named Dain Strongaxe cares a lot about axes. :)

Where is that? Double Specialization? UA? I'll have to break down and read it.

If anybody is looking for something Greyhawk info wise, ask. I might not know the answer, but I know who does!

Despite kicking around on RPoL for several years, I haven't played in a Greyhawk setting in . . . let's see. . . 40 years?  I've forgotten too much to really be considered knowledgable.

In other words: I'm about as good as someone who's never heard of it.

In 40 years! Wow!, I've been playing in Greyhawk the last 12, my roommate is one of 3 or 4 Greyhawk experts! He knows everything, used to write for the wiki. Until it got political.

Re: OOC Chatter (1)

I started playing in the early 90s.   Greyhawk was a setting some people spoke of, and took pieces from, but didn't use a lot as a whole.   I kind of/sort of briefly played in it, then not again till an Rpol game I joined this year. (The one where I met this GM, in fact.)

I think it's a pretty good setting - more so than some contemporary ones, like Golarion, that try to pack in every last little thing.

So are you allowing multi class mages to specialize?   Because I'll happily lose my lightning bolts later, for more sleep & charm magic now!

Re: OOC Chatter (1)

Yes, you can specialize, use the 2nd edition opposition schools if you do. I always play Birahu as a universalist because I won't give up a school, but getting extra spells makes it intriguing indeed.

Birahu will make appearances every now and then, if you choose to be one of his apprentices he might make it worth your while as we go.

Re: OOC Chatter (1)

Wow, so Birahu's sort of like our game's Bigby, then?  That's cool!   I'll be one of Birahu's apprentices.   I've got to get a Sith hood, like he's got!

I prefer specializing, as an RP angle, even with school restrictions.

And yes, it'll cost me the evocation magic -- but it's okay.   Sometimes damage isn't the answer, and there's many other choices to be had in place.

I'm a blaster wizard, it depends on your style. Some like to buff their allies, or control their opponents.

Re: OOC Chatter (1)

The languages in Greyhawk are important. Suel, or Ancient Suloise, was a language from the old Suel Empire and it's wizards. Their key rivals were the ancient Baklunish, They fought until they destroyed each other a thousand years ago during the Twin Cataclysm. The Baklunish, in the end called down the Rain of Colorless Fire in retribution for deadly magic from the Suel against them. Their land became a vast desert of dust and ash. The Oeridian and the Flan also had their own magic. The greatest Flan wizard was Vecna, an evil priest and wizard who became a lesser god. He was Ur-Flan.

For more info check the Greyhawk wiki, it can be enlightening. I'm sure I missed stuff.

Different countries have their own language too, Keolandish is spoken in the Kingdom of Keoland. Everyone will get a national language and possibly a racial language.

Re: OOC Chatter (1)

What about those of us who are not human?

Astrid is from the Vesve woods, originally, I have no doubt she's fluent in Elvish.  Demi humans usually get a slew of other race languages, which I've never grasped;  does every elf and dwarf really learn orcish?   But, it's what the book says.

She has a strong interest in human culture, and has been away from the woods and mixing in human society for years now.  Probably, the Suel and their wizard empire are an area of interest.    If we are using nwps, I may back that up with history skill.

Oh wait; if nwps in use, that determines languages too, then..
