OOC: Game Themes, Party Goals

So, someone mentioned if looting places would be a focus of the game... I think that brings up the more general question of what you as players want to focus on.

So, this thread is for you to throw some ideas out about what direction you want the game to take. Do you want lots of focus on building a stronghold, dungeon crawls, social interactions, going out into the wilds and exploring....

Up to you. Fire away with ideas.

I'd go for basically anything. A mix would be nice, though I'm particularly interested in exploration and dungeon crawling with a sprinkle of stronghold-mechanics.

Agree with Gorm.  Especially considering I've not played RPoL before, not sure I have a preferred aspect.  Would certainly like to work toward a stronghold as long as it makes sense in our story.

By the way, any red flags or taboos to avoid? Being a goblin Gorm may cross some boundaries, like eating the flesh of other sentient beings and generally being unencumbered by social etiquette and rules. Just want to know what is OK and what to avoid.

In reply to Gorm (msg # 4):

I'm okay with most stuff as long as it's part of telling an interesting character or story.  Chaotic evil simply for the sake of being chaotic (frequently taking a dump on the floor because "it's funny") is the kind of stuff I enjoy the least.

The game is tagged as Mature Audience. I'm fine with flesh eating and most stuff. Just stay clear of any sexual content/violence and the usual racist & homophobic crap.

Re: OOC: Game Themes, Party Goals

Suggesting starting with basic setting and rules, go into more advanced over time and also having a finish line where bitter reach could be applied to continiue on (if we want, at thst point). It would be nice to have a limited scope and an end within sight. A planned end to the adventure.

A planned end in a sandbox adventure / campign can be a world event, political, for example, or a nature disaster, or ... a war catalyst? Something marking impact in history.

I am also putting my vote on official adventure places! Rather than not, actually.

Part of my reason joining is to practice the different aspects of the game for playing solo and GMing later.

Something like a doomsday clock? Like the broken water chip in Fallout 1?

Not played it.

But I think we can work with something like Harinder suggested.

I'll be buying Raven's Purge at some point in the next few months and Bitter Reach when it comes out too.

In reply to Narrator (msg # 12):

I think I have both as PDFs. Not sure about the Bitter Reach though, might be in Swedish only. But Raven's Purge I know that I have in both languages.

I've got the pdf, but much prefer reading the books.

Ravens purge seems like a better horizon goal to get into, then.

Now that we're leaving Runething, I'd like to suggest we use this section to make sure we're all helping with common goals.  It's easy for me to lose track of that sort of thing on account of the distanced play and speed of posting.

Sounds like a plan.

So from what I recall, the most immediate goal is to investigate Grindbone to see if there are any among the slaves there that you recognise.

As a means to achieving that goal, you have decided all to head to the suspected orc encampment on the edge of the Arina Forest, which is on the way to Grindbone.
