OOC: Journeys

A place to make rolls and discuss options, encounters and other JOURNEY related mechanics outside of I.C. scope.

First thing is to determine who would be best placed to be the Pathfinder, Lookout etc..

So, the Pathfinder LEADS THE WAY, using their Survival skill (aided by the Pathfinder Talent if they have it.) So, an adventurer with a high WITS would be best for this.

A Lookout KEEPS WATCH (or STANDS GUARD in CAMP) while everyone HIKES or when camp has been made. The Scouting skill is used for this, but you can't KEEP WATCH and LEAD THE WAY, so this has to be another adventurer, as before a high WITS is good, along with Talents that aid Scouting checks.

FORAGING, HUNTING and FISHING are all separate activities used to find food, but can't be done while also HIKING.

MAKING CAMP is done by a single adventurer, but others can help. A Survival check, modified by the Quartermaster Talent is made, again a good WITS helps.

It's two hexes directly south, then one to the south-west to the suspected orc camp.

Assuming no mishaps, the two hexes can be done in a Quarter day.

Someone needs to lead the way (Harinder I think has best stats/skills, but is he with you :)? )

So it's Quarter 1, Day 2.

If we're assuming Harinder is here with the group and Leading the Way, I'll make the necessary roll for him. Everyone else will be Hiking, with one of you (your choice) Keeping Watch as you go.

Let me know who's doing that and make a Scouting Roll please.

How about I grab the excess studded leather for Harinder? And two silver exchanged from HArinder to Lothar. We can assume the exchange happening in the background.

My initial idea was to dress up the half-elves to appear less elvish when dealing with the orcs, but on second thought -  they dont hate elves more than humans, right, GM?
And the frailers are already in armor.

Re: OOC: Journeys

Just realized I created a stablemaster NPC friend and left town without any horse ><
Harinder could not afford it, anyways.

@Caile - thanks. That made perfect sense, but the mistake is mine - theres only one studded leather, which Lothar dons.
quote:
Okay, so I'd say there a couple (2) of suits of leather armour, 1 studded leather along with (3) leather caps...

That what he got away with from the tent. Harinder takes one leather armor, but cant carry the second. There are also 3 leather caps ... or two?

@Brevis - I took the liberty of updating the range of throwing axe from Short to Long in your sheet, or was it meant to use in melee?

@Lothar - Gave 1 silver from Harinder to Lothar on the sheet, for the extra studded leather.

@Eins, if GM rules there are more armors from the stolen gear still around, I suggest Eins carry them (1 leather armor, 2 leather caps - assuming Lothar took one cap).

Re: OOC: Journeys

So, while there were more items available Lothar managed to pick up 2 studded leather and 2 leather caps.

(yes, I know that contradicts what was posted earlier, but that's my bad...)

Lothar is currently wearing 1 of each, leaving 1 of each to give to someone.

If @Harinder is taking those (which I imagine was the whole point of taking more than one) then he has given Lothar 1 silver as compensation for his efforts.

He could use the time that Brevis and Caile are talking to the orc and elf to change into the leathers.

So it still stands that Harinder donning the studded leather would push him past his encumbrance limit. If we pause and chat with the duelants for a while, or maybe later when we set up camp for the night, Harinder and Caile could switch armors since Caile would be able to shoulder the load? Unless Harinder wants to unload something else to get below his limit or carry on encumbered, of course.

I suggest there is no need to oeverplay swapping of gear between us. Can we just assume the exchange was made back before they left the village, behind the scene? Caile getting studded leather, and Harinder has leather. I supose the caps (2 leather caps, then?) Lothar got away with.

Yeah, Im assuming he is half-orc, or a female? Its up to GM to decide on what specifics this instance of the Forbidden Lands hold. It is also likely his tusks are cut, perhaps common among the Urhur clan, as they seem to want to be more human-like than other orcs.

Just started two new jobs, so I might be a bit inactive for a while. Just so you know where I'm at.

As for the extra successes; in some cases and for some skills you can use additional successes to make up for the failure of others. But Forced March is not one of those cases. Everyone makes a roll, if you fail you have overexerted yourself, suffer 1 damage to AGI and must rest/sleep.

And as for the rules; when you want to push a skill roll you re-roll all dice that don't show a symbol, be they attribute, skill, bonus, gear or artifact dice. So if the dice isn't showing skulls (1s on attribute and gear dice) or swords (6s on attribute, skill, bonus and gear dice and 6-12s on artifact dice) you must/may re-roll them if you push the roll.

So re-rolling for more successes doesnt matter in this case, if the success cant be shared, because Harinder is not pressing ahead unless all succeed in following.

Right the skill rolls can be successes upon pushing, but don't have skulls! (And gear skulls damage the gear). I'll remember to re-roll all non-skulls next time.

@dave any result on that Scouting? I feel we are standing still.

Heldemin and Alachran have made camp, so no need to roll those. But if anyone wants to Forage for food or Water, then you need to make a Survival roll. Each success for Food foraging gives you a unit of food, if you successfully find water, then everyone can fill their waterskins to d12 units.

Hunting for food will need a Survival roll to find prey, then some other rolls to kill it..

If everyone lets me know what they want to do.. Though both Caile and Brevis need to Rest to recover their AGI.

Okay, give me a Survival roll. You can Push if you wish.. each success gives a unit of vegetables.. if you get no successes, you suffer a mishap. (GM rolls on mishap table.)

The vegetables can be eaten raw, lasting 1 day before they spoil, or they can be cooked by someone with the Chef talent.

Those are +1 and -1 so they equal each  other out?

16:52, Today: Eyrar rolled 1 success using 4d6 with the Target Number system with a target of 6.  Searching for water.

So when successful in finding water everyone can fill their waterskin, bumping the water dice up t a D12. (If memory servers me right.)

With Path of the Hymn, rank 1 can only be used if the target has been Broken unfortunately. You would need Rank 2 in order to heal un-Broken injury.

Okay, so someone needs to make a Crafting roll, I'm guessing maybe Alachran or Brevis as they are both waving their axes around...

You can have up to 3 people helping out for a +3 (skill die) to the die rolled.

(so would be STR die + Crafting skill die + 1(max 3) skill die for helpers.)

Updated the initiative.

For the skill roll:

NEGATIVE DICE:  If, after modifications, you end  up  with  exactly  zero  Skill  Dice,  you  just roll your Base Dice (and any applicable Gear Dice).  If  you  go  below  zero,  you must  roll  this negative number of Skill Dice. These dice are called  negative  dice. Any x  on negative dice eliminate an equal number of x  on Base or Gear Dice. If you push your roll you must reroll negative Skill Dice too (except the ones showing x of course).

Good news for me. I take the bite but my constitution, bolstered by years on the streets, shrugs off rabies like it's nothin'!

Character sheet is now updated.  Should anyone feel like administering health, consider my hand in the air :)

Re: OOC: Journeys

In reply to Brevis (msg # 127):

Does Brevis have a sense of how much damage the hound seems to have taken?  Does it seem to be very badly injured or did it largely shrug off his attack?

Also, if I attack now will I be able to dodge?

Re: OOC: Journeys

You've done 2 points of damage and it's got a  pretty nasty looking gash across its flank.

With Brevis having thrown his axe, he'll need to Ready another weapon (Fast action) before attacking (slow action). If he does that, he'll not have an action left to Dodge or Parry.

Re: OOC: Journeys

Yes, but also the others are able to act too, such as Harinder, Caile and Alachran.
