THE WORLD

The World:

Cities:
--NEW YORK CITY (Size: Super Huge. A coastal city.)
--It is divided into three districts:
----Northside (vaguely middle-class. X-Men show up here, sometimes alone, sometimes as a group.)
----Hell's Kitchen (in the middle, lower-class)
----Southside (vaguely upper-class. Avengers territory.)

About 75 miles south of that is
--METROPOLIS (Size: Huge. Also a costal city.)

Just over 20 miles south of that is
--GOTHAM (Size: Huge. Also a costal city.)

OTHER PLACES:

West of Gotham is Mount Eternity, a miles-high mountain so huge that after about 3 in the afternoon Gotham is in deep shadow.

West of Mount Eternity is Latveria, the small country where the mage-knight Victor Von Doom plots against the Avengers.

--Westchester: a smallish-medium town northwest of New York City

--Bludhaven: a medium-size town just south of Gotham

--Knickerbock: a tiny town north of Westchester

--Deerfield: A small-medium town to the west of NYC's south side

--Hub City: a large town to the south of Gotham and Bludhaven

--Ivy Town: a small town that used to be home to The Invisible College, a university for mages of various types, although the new sister campus in New York's Southside is much better-known now.

Rumors about Ivy Town's Invisible College:
--It's not just a college for mages, but also admits those who major in being assassins
--Its library still contains many forbidden and powerful books (in other words, they weren't all moved to the NYC campus)

Midvale: smallish-medium
--The invisible college (of mages)

Apocalypse and Armaghetto: Apocalypse is the name of the volcano, far to the east, under the shadow of which lies Armaghetto, the city where Darkseid rules. (Darkseid is a very, VERY powerful earth elemental who has mastered a lot of black magic. Darkseid is not his actual name, but is more of a title that his minions are allowed to call him.)

WHOM DO AVERAGE CITIZENS TALK ABOUT THE MOST?

--IN NEW YORK CITY:
----THE AVENGERS:
-----Spider-Man: a rogue who sometimes patrols Hell's Kitchen
-----Iron Man: a knight with magical armor
-----Captain America: a fighter who uses a round shield with a star on it
-----Black Widow: a rogue
-----Hawkeye: an archer

--Also:
----Daredevil: wears red, including a horned helmet. (Hell's Kitchen)
----Punisher: a fighter wearing black with a white skull on his breastplate. (Hell's Kitchen)

We do not talk about the X-Men... but Storm is whispered about with respect.

--IN METROPOLIS:
----THE JUSTICE LEAGUE:
------Superman: wears a dragon ring (see post right after this one). Flying, tough, strong, heat vision
------Wonder Woman: wears a dragon ring. Flying, tough, strong
------Flash: Haste spell at will
------Green Lantern: wears a dragon ring
------Mister Miracle: Rogue specializing in escaping from anything
------Big Barda: fighter with a magic mace-rod thing
------Cyborg: dangerously magical prosthetic body parts-- strength, toughness, other stuff

--IN GOTHAM:
--THE JUSTICE LEAGUE:
----Batman: he's the Batman
----Zatanna: a mage
----Hawkman: reincarnated Aaracokra fighter who remembers his past lives
----Green Arrow: an archer

WHOM ELSE DO THE PEOPLE TALK ABOUT (THE MOST)?

NEW YORK:
--Galactus: a very powerful and magical giant, lives on a big cloud. Threatened New York City once. His plans were stopped, but it was really scary
--Thanos: a big strong fighter with an agenda that involves finding REALLY powerful magic items. Nearly destroyed New York a few times
--Juggernaut: avatar of Cyttorak. Rampages through Southside now and then
--Baron Mordo: a powerful mage. Has threatened New York (mostly Southside) more than once. Some other mage always shows up and stops him (so far)

METROPOLIS AND GOTHAM:
--Joker: a very dangerous insane rogue (Gotham)
--Brainiac: a very weird mage. Nearly cast a Reduce spell on Metropolis one time
--Giganta: can cast Enlarge spell on herself at will. You don't forget a giant woman walking through your city (Metropolis)
--Mr. Mxyzptlk: very powerful mischief-maker from the fairy realms. Likes to visit Metropolis and mess with Superman

THE WORLD

Avatars: Some characters have been granted power by gods or cosmic forces. The one everyone always thinks of is the Juggernaut. Others are suspected of being avatars, such as Storm, Rachel "Phoenix" Summers, and even Spider-Man, but no one's as sure about them as they are about Juggernaut.

Dragon Rings: Long ago, the Dragon Rings were made by lizardmen (kinda of synonymous with "dragonborn," though no one calls them that). There's all sorts of lizardy-dragony magic still around. Putting one a dragon ring turns one into a living weapon, usually capable of flight, super-strength, and super-toughness, and often more abilities... but there are sometimes extra consequences. On the other hand, some dragon rings are cracked, meaning they don't work the way they were designed to work. On the third hand, some are uncracked, but cursed.

--Rogue: her ring steals the power, health, and minds of others... but it's cursed. She can't remove it, nor turn its power off...
--Namor: sea-dragon ring. Normal powers, plus he's even stronger in the water, and he can't drown.
--Cannonball: his ring is cracked. His flight is hard to maneuver, and he's only invulnerable while flying. Still, it's a lot better than nothing.
--Superman: a much stronger than average ring. Flight, strength, toughness, and heat vision, too.
--Wonder Woman: A slightly stronger than average ring.
--Green Lantern: An uncracked ring. Flight. Toughness, as long as he concentrates... but he can also pick things up with it, or make solid shapes (as long as he concentrates). Doesn't work against things that are yellow nor gold. Needs to be charged against a magic lantern that he can make invisible.
--The Manhunter: a lizardman from ancient times who was brought to this era. His (cracked) dragon ring gives him the abilities of flight, strength, toughness, and he can read minds, create mental illusions... but is very vulnerable to fire
--Captain Marvel: Flight, strength, toughness... and wisdom
--Power Girl: cracked ring. The normal powers, but it depends on her stamina. The more tired she is, the less the ring works.
--Sinestro: A special dragon ring, made to counter Green Lantern's ring. Recharges based on the power of his ring and/or his lantern.
--Black Adam: dragon ring, normal powers.
