OOC Thread...

Haven't forgotten about you... just needed to take today easy, breathe deep, and do some rules clarification...

Tomorrow I need to add a "So you just lost your last HP..." move...

Then spend a little more time working on the plot/details of the first adventure... maybe Tuesday I'll post an ad for other players.

Their TRUE form is more lizard, less man. But this can be a form he shows the public when adventuring.

Real lizardmen see The Manhunter (and his ring) as a very disturbing relic of a time ages past, like if Genghis Khan rode up to your picnic holding a huge bloody axe... but way worse than that. (More like if Conan rode up to your picnic holding a glowing skull that he was looking to get rid of somewhere?)  So he feels closer, emotionally, to humans (even though he would freak them out almost as much if they saw his true form, and even though he doesn't feel that close to anyone in the present really).

Okay, I've added a "so your last hp is gone" move and even a "so you want to try to bring a hero back from the dead" move...

And I've got some ideas for the first adventure...

...Anything I should do before I place an ad for more players...?

Yeah, most of what I know about Spider-Man is from the 90's cartoon and Tobey Maguire movies. Or the first two movies anyway, the third one doesn't exist in my opinion. But even with that limited knowledge of him, he's still my favorite comic book superhero.

Re: OOC Thread

The Justice League cartoons provided the best “voice” for J’onn, imo. Luckily, he’s also on Supergirl if you want to diversify your inspiration. The JL runs by Giffen/DeMatteis and Grant Morrison also gave him some great characterization.

I love Tom Holland’s Spidey!

Which other heroes would you all like to see in this game? For me:

Batman
Batgirl
Nightwing
Black Canary
Green Arrow
Zatanna
Flash
Green Lantern
The Shining Knight
Vixen
Poison Ivy
Harley Quinn
Catwoman
Starfire
Beast Boy
Raven

Captain America
Thor
Dr. Strange
Storm
Wolverine
Colossus
Nightcrawler
Phoenix (Rachel, huh? I’m down!)
The Fantastic Four
She-Hulk
Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers AND/OR Billy Batson)
Firestar
Rogue
Iron Man
Spider-Woman
Red Sonja

Also (see above), everyone put your hp and sp in your bio lines, like this:

hp: 18/18 || sp: 12/12        (or whatever they are.)

If there's room, you might want to keep track of your xp that way, too:

xp: 0

Otherwise, just get ready to keep track of xp on your character sheet (it's your responsibility)!

Since I don't know the parameters your 'innocent blood radar' scans for, I can't reliably answer that.

The location he's tied to is a castle (former apartment building) where he is the dungeon master (apartment manager) tending to maintaining and stocking it for visiting heroes. He's not interested in really harming folks, but does need suffering for his own food and tries to cultivate a reputation as being far more monstrous of a person than he actually is.

So even if they blame you for getting thier husbands killed, and even if they polt to harm you, it's not 'vengence'. Due to the fact you are not directly responsible-the rider cannot be called to destroy you.

I'm sure they have lots of others who would gladly do soemthing awful however...

...Ohhhhhh. So that's what you meant in your backstory. I did sort of wonder what you were talking about...

...I don't... think the world changed, like that.

I was just referring to the Kulan Gath storyline to give the idea of "characters you know, but translated into sword-and-sorcery."

...I don't think I want it to have worked that way.

I think this world has just always been like this.

...I... can't really... I mean... I guess... What could even... I guess the Infinity Gauntlet could do it? I guess?

Jeepers, did someone hand Conan the Infinity Gauntlet? (...And a really big keg of very hard liquour?)

I guess I could barely believe in that...

Also, looking Kulan Gath up... Selene issued a warning in one of his early appearances that, if not reversed quickly, his spell would spread to engulf the entire planet.

Also, it seems that his transformation to sword & sorcery does not work on aliens (Warlock was entirely immune), and skilled mages can resist it (Strange and Selene both did).

What is the 'tech level' of this world? Middle ages, or 17th-19th century? Steampunk?

A little closer to typical fantasy than bronze age. Middle ages is closer, I would say.

We don't have plumbing, but the rich (and wizards) have simple telescopes.

Wizards and the like know about clockwork gears, but actual clocks are expensive and primitive. People do know about the existence of automata-- such as little birds that move and sing if you wind them up gently-- music boxes exist, though they're quite expensive-- but if you really want to make the inanimate move with style, it's a lot simpler to go to a wizard or something.

We haven't quite worked out the printing press yet.

Does that more or less fill you in...?

Afraid so.

Wizards and mages, of course, may have worked out some other system for the use of their residences, but there are no plumbers, as such.

A given castle, designed to withstand siege, may have garderobes, where a hole leads down to a sewer system or something. Orrr it may not.

Correction (sorry I didn't catch the misapprehension sooner):

The two men Jhonen is talking to are not the dangerous ones.

The two men Jhonen is talking to are actual village constables.

The constable directs Jhonen's attention to those two men STANDING RIGHT OVER THERE (and says that there are two more inside that building that they're standing in front of who are currently questioning some old farmer).

Just telling you in case that changes anything (I can well believe it might).

Interesting idea, but no. You could TOTALLY attempt to undo something like that-- but not before it actually happens.

Yes, we are definitely getting confused between Johan and Jhonen. (It's not at all surprising, is it?)

I said initially that the Manhunter's name would be J'Onn J'Onzz, but then the Manhunter's player changed it to something else, and then Johan showed up.

So before we do anything else (like, me edit and change what happened): How are we going to keep from getting confused between Johan and Jhonen? Because if we don't think of some sort of solution, I'm going to keep confusing them, and I probably won't be the only one.

Yeah, for every single roll for which the final result ends up being 6 or lower, one gets an xp point, even if I don't say so (which, if and when that happens, will be accidental on my part).

Recasting modern life into medieval can be unusual at times...

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I beg of thee, pray take not my lord
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I fear, from thee, ‘twould take naught but a word
Thy beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Thy smile is like a breath of Spring
Thy voice is soft like Summer rain
And I cannot compete with thee
Jolene
He talketh of thee in his sleep
And alas, I cannot keep
From weeping when I hear thy name
Jolene
Although it is so plain to see
How little he doth mean to thee
My love for him is boundless as the sea
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I beg of thee, oh please take not my lord
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I fear, from you, ‘twould take naught but a word
Thou couldst have thy choice of men
But I could never love again
He is the only one for me
Jolene
I would risk both life and limb
To spend my only days with him
My happiness is at thy whim,
Jolene
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I beg of thee, pray take not my lord
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I fear, from thee, ‘twould take naught but a word

A very good question, but no, because:

quote:
AID
--When you help another character, roll a d6; they can use this roll in lieu of one of their own roll's dice. (If more than one player helps them, they can only keep the best 1 die from amongst all dice rolled). You are exposed to any risks, consequences or costs of their move, even if they didn’t use your die.
--If you roll a 1, the GM will probably put you at risk, make trouble for you, or make things worse in general, even if the GM can't think of any way for you to share the same problems as the character you tried to help.

So basically, it's specifically meant to be part of a specific MOVE, not rolling for damage.

Someone asked Xavier something, or did they?

1. It is my conception that Malkos is in charge of, as it were, the Danger Dungeon, and I keep thinking "why don't we just toss prisoners in there?"

2. People keep wondering "why don't we just mindwipe our prisoners," and I feel like Xavier has moral scruples against that, and if y'all want to do that, just make the Manhunter do it...

So if Xavier seems evasive about the prisoners, those are why...

Just what the who?

A) Manhunter has scruples about this sort of thing, too. It would take a lot of convincing.

B) Nobody makes the Manhunter do anything.

C) I didn't actually know I had that ability anyway.

Malkos' reasons for his reluctance has to do with the normal functions and purpose of his dungeon. Not a strain on his magic. But if the archmage (as he sees Xavier) wishes it, he will do it. Likewise if the group feels it needful for our mutual task.

Hmmmmmm...

I'll let you try it... but with an individual roll for each.

First state what order you will try to heal them in.

Second, roll for each in that order.

If you utterly fail at any point, then people at the back of the line might not get healed at all, so I would start with the most-wounded.

EDIT: I'll move the story forward after you post about this... first I wanna see how this turns out...

Very fortunate rolls. The only one under 10 was that third one...

I'll say that on the third, Malkos senses that he can only use the spell one more time today.

Does he still want to do the fourth heal?

Did you change the rules on us without mentioning it before?

quote:
Casting Spells:
When you unleash a spell, roll 2d6 and then add your Confident modifier (or Insightful, if you are a Wizard or a Bard):

• On a 10+ the the spell is successfully cast, and the targets gets 1d6 health back. You may cast it again, later (the next round, if you want).

• On a 7 through 9, the spell is cast, but choose one:
--You draw unwelcome attention or put yourself in a spot. The GM will tell you how.
--Your casting wears you out a little; take -1 ongoing to cast any spell until the next time you rest for at least an hour.
--After it is cast, you cannot cast that particular spell again until you rest for at least an hour.
--The spell is somehow less effective than it was supposed to be, or has some other unexpected side effect (the GM will tell you exactly what).

• On a 6 or below, the spell is cast, but the GM will choose one:
--You draw unwelcome attention or put yourself in a spot. The GM will tell you how.
--Your casting wears you out a little; take -1 ongoing to cast any spell until the next time you rest for at least an hour.
--After it is cast, you cannot cast that particular spell again until you rest for at least an hour.
--The spell is somehow less effective than it was supposed to be, or has some other unexpected side effect (the GM will tell you exactly what).

On a 7 to 9, it sounds like I get to choose which side effect happens, and I choose that it wears me out a bit (take -1 ongoing to cast until rested).

As I understand that part of the system, please correct me if I am mistaken, it's when the roll is 6 or below that the GM chooses. I'd wondered a bit about that when you overruled my selection in Knickerbock (retrieving Manhunter to the carriage) and bumped the result down into the 6 range, but didn't speak up seeing it as GM fiat for possible plot reasons.

"Your casting wears you out a little; take -1 ongoing to cast any spell until the next time you rest for at least an hour."

Which I had already factored into the 4th casting (note the +1 as opposed to the +2 of the first 3).

I'm unsure how much rest we got inside the carriage on the trip from the mansion to the city gates. *shrugs*

Mokay.

Yeah, it took an hour, but you haven't really gotten rest out of it-- the carriage rattles and shakes, and sitting in the little (for your frame) carriage is distracting.

But yeah, I can live with it just fine.

Re: OOC Thread

Since we haven't used it much yet, I want to replace the old REST move with one that makes more sense to me, below:

--Rest:
When you rest for a few hours (at least 4), you may roll 2d6 plus your Forceful modifier.
--10 or better: You get 2d4+1 HP back
--7-9: You get 1d4+1 HP back
--6 or lower: you get 1 HP back

Getting STRESS damage back for the same rest period is rolled separately, using your Confident modifier:
--10 or better: You get half your total stress back.
--7-9: You get 1d4+1 stress back.
--6 or lower: You get 1d2 stress back.

Anyone wanna stop me...?

"WHY ARE YOU HAVING TROUBLE TODAY, GM?"

Besides atmospheric conditions of a hurricane pushing a few million pounds per square inch (distributed over hundreds of miles, of course) around half the country, a family member isn't feeling well today (I think there's a connection, really), and I'm trying to keep them entertained.

Tomorrow... seems more likely for me to finish catching up...? Maybe...

Okay the thing is I came here and posted initially with the expectation of closing this down (because if y'all were gonna post why wouldn't you've by now).

I... do sort of like finishing what I start, it's true...

But I also have a new thing about to start, and I was looking to clean up just to get more efficient.

An old game resuming again was NOT my expectation.

So...

...I guess we can start again and at least finish this chapter's/mission's big climax... and then see how things go...

...But be prepared for me maybe being kinda irregular, me-schedule-time-wise...

Anyway... and it's hard to stress this enough... it's y'all's turn.

Is it too late to do a defend action rather than a forceful move? Reading it over now, grappling without causing your foe harm sounds more like a defend. Plus it can also be rolled using forceful.

quote:
Defend
When you stand in defense of a location, item, or person (including yourself), roll+Forceful.
On a 10+, hold 3.
On a 7-9, hold 1.

As long as you stand in defense, when you or the thing you defend is attacked you may spend your hold, 1-for-1, to choose an option from the list below:
■ Redirect the attack from who/what you're guarding to yourself.
■ Halve the attack’s effect or damage.
■ Grant an ally +1 forward against this enemy.
■ Deal half your damage (rounded up).
■ Hold them back
■ Draw all attention from your ward to yourself
When you go on the offense, cease to focus on defense, or the danger passes, lose any Readiness that you hold.

In this case, I could take all 4 damage and instead select the 'Hold them back' result, showing my success at holding Black Adam.

Does the Rider's post mean I didn't take that point of damage...?

"The Rider steps in front of the Manhunter"

I'm... a little perplexed myself. When I read The Rider's Defend post, I thought of him being between Diana and Von Doom. My understanding was/is that the Manhunter is floating way up in the air... So I kind of disregarded the Defend for the moment.

...Was I wrong? If so, how/why?

Re: OOC Thread

Hmm.

He scrambled for the book on the ground, and failed. I don't see any 'stage directions' for the character following that, so I'd have to assume he was still at ground level.

In reply to The GM (msg # 338):

I stated I was between the villians and the heroes. If the Manhunter was flying I could just lash out with my chain, wrap it around Doom's wrist to pull him towards me, causing him to harm me and burn his armor at the same time.

Sigh.

Then I guess no damage was taken.

I'm willing to keep going. Blaze is just waiting for a change of scene so we can go to a bar.

Okay kids, since that line of questioning produced no responses, I'm closin' up shop here. This is the "week's notice."

...Any of you ever played any of the Fallout line of video games...?
