Re: IN-GAME THREAD: PARTE PRIMUS

The Manhunter:
"That will not happen," Manhunter replied. Doom had possibly made a tactical error here. While they could not face down his entire army, the three of them together could certainly face down Doom himself. The only problem was that Doom had arrived in an instant without them even noticing, and thus could probably remove himself from the field of battle if he chose.

Thus, the heroes needed to strike quickly.

The Manhunter rolled 15 using 2d6+3 ((6,6)).
--Hit Hard
--Avoid Retaliation

The Manhunter rolled 10 using 3d3,d4 ((2,1,3,4)).

The Manhunter flies straight at Von Doom-- and bounces off an invisible field.

"By the eye of Shuma-Gorath!" roars Von Doom. "You caused my sphere of magical protection to fail-- in just one attempt!" He taps on some jewels on his right bracer... A bubble of light green energy re-forms around him-- and then disappears again. "And I cannot re-form it! What power! You have impressed the monarch of Latveria, warrior-- and have earned his full attention! Doomata! Attack! Target the green flyer-- and the amazon! I must have that book!"

"YES MASTER" all the Doommata respond, and they move forward, firing beams of energy from their gauntlets.

They're terrible shots, though-- no one is hit in their first assault...

Although the Stranger gasps-- some of those beams are hitting the bubble around Black Adam-- it's likely he'll break free soon...

Von Doom himself levitates upward, and forward-- great, he can fly, too. Terrific.

The Rider leaps into the air, and his burning dead steed forms under him from the earth. It rides up the side of one of the buildings, and he lashes out with his firey chain at the doombots. Trying to stop the energy beams seeking to free Black Adam from his binding.

OOC:

Regen 1 HP.

15:33, Today: The Rider rolled 7 using 1d6+2 with rolls of 5.  Damage.

15:32, Today: The Rider rolled 14 using 2d6+2 with rolls of 6,6.  Volley on the back of the burning steed.

The doomata army takes casualties. Some of them get back up, damaged (missing an arm, or having both arms but no longer firing beams of magical energy). Some of them don't get back up at all. Two or three are crawling now. The ones that can, though, still keep coming...

"Flight does not impress me," the Manhunter said plainly as he too took to the air. "Let us test your metal against my mettle and see who emerges victorious."

Of course, Manhunter was already quite wounded; this was far from an even battle. But he had never backed down from a righteous cause before, and he wasn't about to begin. If he went down, he would go down fighting.

Without another word he flew directly at Doom, and struck for all he could.

Von Doom flies backward, clearly shaken, and lands among his Doomata.

The problem is, now it's hard to spot him...

The Rider proceeds to act like his namesake. Using his burning steed and fiery chain to trample, strike, and melt any of the flase doom constructs that remain. Only when they are finished will he turn his attension to the real Doom. Assuming he can even tell the difference.

ooc: 23:12, Today: The Rider rolled 7,4 using 1d6+2,1d4 with rolls of 5,4.  Damage. Total damage=11

23:11, Today: The Rider rolled 9 using 2d6+3 with rolls of 2,4.  Its clobbering time remaining doombots. Gets extra +1d4 damage.

Wonder Woman was wrong about which Doom was Von Doom... But the Doomata are all either destroyed, or else they're damaged beyond being able to continue the fight.

Von Doom tries a desperate attempt-- he targets the bubble of energy around Black Adam.

(11:53, Today: Von Doom rolled 8 using 2d6+1 ((3,4)).)

Black Adam is freed! But it takes a few seconds, so he doesn't quite have time to do anything before the heroes do...

(I have chosen a Doom portrait, but I'm not happy with it. Can anyone find me a Doomier Doom portrait?

Also: By my count, Pyro is up but scared, Metallo and Weather Wizard are both out. Correct?)

Black Adam was a dangerous foe, but Doom was the true menace here. Removing him from the field of battle might make Adam simply quit, even. So the Manhunter used all of the strength he could muster to strike at Doom first.

Doom is staggered, forced to the ground, reeling, one hand to his head, trying to refocus...

Black Adam, sensing things aren't going his team's way, tries for the book...

(GM rolls dice... nope. Black Adam fail.

Diana, narrate how you are able to keep Black Adam from taking the book from you, please...)

Black Adam flew toward Wonder Woman with the speed of his gods. However, the Speed of Hermès enabled the Amazon to use his momentum in a  defensive throw. It wouldn’t hurt Adam, but it bought Diana time. “You cannot have the Tome, Adam.”

OOC:

Re: IN-GAME THREAD: PARTE PRIMUS

(HUH. Didn't expect you to ROLL for that, Diana, since I already told you Black Adam tried something and failed his roll... BUT you did, so you get 1 new xp...)

The Rider yanks Black Adam to him. Black Adam struggles to punch The Rider, but the chains weaken his blow.

(The Rider takes 3 new damage, but Black Adam is immobilized for the moment.)

Von Doom, however, is the first to realize: While dealing with Black Adam, Diana has dropped the book!

"The book!" Von Doom shouts...

Energy flows from his gauntlets past The Manhunter to pull the book to him.

(15:27, Today: Von Doom rolled 8 using 2d6+1 ((5,2)).)

He fails, but it skitters and slides away from Diana and comes to rest in the middle of the campus-plaza-turned-battlefield.

(Anyone who tries to grab the book now must roll Agile.

10 or higher gets the book. Lower than 10, let me narrate what happens...

This is true for
--Doom, but it's not his turn
--Black Adam, but he's tied up right now
--Pyro, but he's not jumping in the middle of this (at this time, anyway)

So it's one (just one please) of you guys' call... First come first serve...

--Manhunter: it'll risk turning your back on Doom
--Rider: it'll risk helping Black Adam get free)

Everyone turned to see where the book came to rest. It would be a mad scramble to get to it faster than Doom's magics could, but someone needed to keep control over the tome. Manhunter lunged for it.

The Manhunter rolled 3 using 2d6+1 ((1,1)).

Oy vey.

The Manhunter grabs for the book... but he has to avoid a bolt of energy from Von Doom at the same time-- and he does but the grab turns into just sort of slapping the book--

--it lands at Von Doom's feet. "Yes!"

(The Manhunter gets 1 new xp point.)

Von Doom snatches up the book and begins to read some arcane words that hurt the ears to hear. (Except for The Rider, he's fine.)

There is a huge column of dark green smoke... that gets wider... and wider... and then...

(13:45, Today: Von Doom rolled 5 using 2d6-1 ((2,4)).

Von Doom, in his hurry, has not done the best job of accomplishing what he wanted to accomplish.)

"WHO DARES AWAKEN ME FROM MY SLUMBER?!?" roars the form that emerges from the smoke as it slowly dissipates.

"WHO DARES AWAKEN... FIN FANG FOOM...?!?"

(Though he doesn't know it yet, Von Doom is not in control of the giant monster that he has summoned. Everybody may now officially freak out.)

Re: IN-GAME THREAD: PARTE PRIMUS

This was bad. This was very bad. Fighting a dragon was not supposed to be on the agenda. They were supposed to deliver a book, that was all. And gods help the Manhunter if this thing breathed fire.

It was angry. It seemed to be angry at Doom as well, or even especially so. It was all the Manhunter could do to keep himself from shouting "Doom did it!" but he managed. That was just not the way he wanted to comport himself even if he feared for his life.

He forced himself to remain calm.

It was not easy.

Black Adam, although still chained, flies over Von Doom's head, and then back down, completing a wide circle... And then he yanks on the chains himself, and The Rider goes spinning around...

Before he can complete half a circle, however, there's a wall that breaks his arc.

Down on the ground, even Doom appears a bit taken aback//nonplussed for the moment...

Black Adam starts freeing himself from his chains...

No one's really watching Pyro, so he's keeping his head down and not causing any trouble as yet...

Von Doom is immediately upset that he's lost the book. He looks up at Fin Fang Foom... but then there's the problem of the other dragon... A wave of pain causes Von Doom to wince. He casts some sort of spell to rejuvenate himself slightly from his injuries...

Meanwhile, in the silence, Fin Fang Foom himself is studying the other dragon, his eyes narrowed, trying to figure out what's going on here...
