=== In of the Golden Lion ===

When Tyrol reaches the end of the tunnel, he can see that it opens into the common room of an inn. The room isn't well lit, nor is it particularly populated at this time, which is how the tunnel can appear and go unnoticed.

Other than the innkeeper, Tyrol can only see three people in there, sitting at the bar, drinking ales and lamenting over something.

There are a number of animal heads stuffed and mounted on the walls. He can also see a set of wooden steps leading up to a balcony where there are three doors.

Tyrol looks behind him to see if Vogh has followed him through the tunnel. If not, he'll go back and report what he's seen. Then he'll return to the other end and step out into the tavern.

He'll wait until the bartender is looking the other way, then he'll slip over towards the door, open it and close it and the walk to the bar.

"I'll have an ale," he says to the bartender, "if it's cold. Otherwise, just some water. Ale don't go down too well for me if it ain't cold," he explains.

"I'm looking for Eustace. I was told I could find him here. Of course, I could be early. Lose track of time on those dusty trails."

Vogh came through the portal shortly after Tyrol and looked about the tavern.  It was pretty dead inside and honestly, Vogh was surprised that there weren't any looks their way as they came through the portal.

"I will have an ale as well, thank you!"  Vogh said right after Tyrol.

The bartender pours two ales and then picks up a metal rod from the somewhere behind the bar, sticks it in each ale and swirls it around a few times.

He then hands the ales to Tyrol and Vogh. They find the ale quite chilled.

"Don't know of anyone named Eustace," the bartender replies to Tyrol. "Does he live around here? Or were you just meeting him here on the way to somewhere else?"

A few heads did turn to look at Tyrol as he 'didn't' come through the door, but his presence didn't seem to interest them.

"How about that?" Tyrol says to Vogh as they drink their ales. "A chilzle stick! We've got them back where I come from. It's a simple little enchanted item with Prestidigitation. As you saw, you just stir it into a liquid to chill the it. The more you stir, the colder it gets. But... it won't freeze. The spell can't do that."

"We also have sizzle sticks that heat the item. Again, though, not enough to where the liquid is hot enough to burn you."

"I wonder who made this one? Is it local? Or did some traveler trade it for a drink or food?"

Turning back to the bartender, he adds, "Don't think Eustace lives around here, and if you've never heard of him, he probably doesn't, since he's never met a tavern that he didn't like! Nope, we was just meeting him here."

"I figured he'd already be here by now and be several drinks ahead of us. Is there any place else he might be waiting for us, you think?"

It was his subtle way of asking where they were and what else was around here. Were they in a town? Or was this just a way station somewhere in the area? He couldn't very well ask what other buildings were here in case there weren't any--after all, he just walked in through the front door, right? He would have seen anything else outside. Heck, for that matter, was there even an outside? They might be underground for all he knew. Nope, nope, nope... they weren't. A bit of sunlight (?) had come through the door when he opened it and pretended to walk in.

Vogh hadn't actually seen such a trick on the stick that the bartender had used to chill the ale.  "That is a very interesting idea, one I will have to find for myself as it is a great idea."  She turned to the bartender and asked, "You wouldn't happen to have one of those for sale would you?"

Vogh let Tyrol do the talking as she could see where he was heading with his line of questions.

"This is a very small village, a hamlet, you might call it," the bartender replied to Tyrol. "This is the only tavern. Nowhere else your friend is going to go."

"It's possible that the hasn't arrived yet. You can wait for him here."

He then turns to Vogh.

"It's the only one I have, but it hasn't exactly caught on in popularity yet. I expect I'll miss it for... oh, 50 days or so. I could let you have it for 50 gold royals. I figure, if I count one gold coin per day, by the time I get to the last coin, I won't miss it any more."

Thinking it a good enough deal for her, Vogh grabs her pouch and begins to sort out 50 gold pieces for the man.  "The price is a bit high for me, but since it is a novel thing and you only have one, I will give you 50 for it.  Thank you!"

Vogh then moves away while asking Tyrol to follow.  Once away from earshot she asks, "Well, what do you want to do now?  We certainly aren't waiting for someone so we need to figure out what to do.  Do we wait for the place to close for the night and then reenter? Or do you have another plan?"

"Plan? Yes, I can see how you'd think that since I'm an alchemist," Tyrol replies, "but, no, I don't have a plan. I make it up as I go."

"For all I knew, this could have been an abandoned tavern."

"I suppose we could just tell the bartender that we're the Green Stars, and see what that accomplishes. If it doesn't do anything, we could try to come back after it closes. Did it look like anyone lives here when it's closed?"

With a bit of a giggle Vogh says, "Hahaha wonderful.  I am a lot of the same way.  Perhaps we should have had a planner with us!  haha"

Vogh then moves back to the bar and asked the bartender, "Does a green star mean anything to you or have you seen such a symbol around here?"
