And so it began:

OOC: All of you who have your character at least mostly ready have received an intro blurb. You are all free to share any or all of that information, but it is your characters' choice, not mine. Obviously, those of you who traveled together share that information amongst yourselves.

You have been drawn to this land once called "Ohio", each for your own reasons. The group has been functioning quite well, transporting needed goods to resistance communities inside the invasion zone. You have noticed that some of those places have lost what little connection they were holding on to the USA and this Earth, though others have held strong. You are hopeful that this will build and allow a swift victory against the invaders.

OOC: if you have received a message explaining your arrival, you are now free to Role-play.  The adventure should start over the weekend.

And so it began:

Sapphire decided that she she didn't like trucks. Jason's Deuce and a half was shaking her around. Her stomach was permanently lurching, her skin felt cold and clammy, and she just wanted to be sick. Sure it traveled perhaps half again as fast as a Pegasus, but why would anyone voluntarily choose to move around in one of these?

As they stopped for the evening, without any of her usual grace she almost hobbled out of the car, stood against a wall on the side of the road and took lots of deep breaths. At least she had managed to hold it together and not throw up. She hadn't thrown up in public in two hundred years, and she wasn't going to start now!

"It all seems very alien" she said between the deep breaths she was taking to help her settle her stomach "I've never seen such a green desert before. Each place .. you said they were called 'fields' right? ...  seems to just have 'one thing' growing in it" she tapped the tarmac with her foot"This seems endless. Like the path of ... " she was struggling to find a description, it was so strange "like ... a giant snail that has hardened. It's like a scar that prevents all life growing where it has passed. How was it laid?" she had learnt enough about core earth to realise it wasn't some demon whose passage corrupted the land, but she couldn't imagine how so many hundreds of miles of 'just the same' could be made

And so it began:

Pierre gave the elf a reassuring smile to assure her that yes, car-sickness did pass. Pausing to incant a quick spell when she started talking, he shrugged in reply. "Machines madame." he said in poor but recognizable Elven. "Machines to dig gravel, more to crush it, yet more to mix it with pitch made by yet more machines, yet others to lay, flatten and smooth it. Many machines."

And so it began:

Sapphire gave a 'thank you' smile at Pierre. She obviously appreciated the effort to have a learnt such a useful cantrip, and the kind gesture. She continued in English though because if other people didn't understand, she didn't want to be rude to them.

"Machines you say" she commented "The last time I saw such a thing it was a giant slug thing, that crawled through the forest. Perhaps thirty feet long. Nothing grew where it had been. Weapons dissolved when they hit it's body. It reacted badly to fire though: exploding when fireballed. The Loremasters struggled to categorise it. While clearly an Entity because it was inimical to life,  it didn't require stolen life force to live, so probably not some sort of higher undead. It didn't seem to hate life, and seek to corrupt people, so probably not a demon. In the end it was deemed to be 'just been a chaotic anomaly'"

"Nothing grew in the path where it had been. In the end my Mother covered it: causing the local plant life to shred the path, and pull the remnants deep in the earth. It was a great effort taking her days."

"So where are you from ... Pierre is it ... I was given to understand that people in this land don't cast magic, but instead"
she waved her hand at the scene "use 'machines' to create vistas like this"

And so it began:

Ben enjoyed the ride, moving form a place to place on an army truck was one of the more mundane experiences he had. He still couldn't believe that less then a year ago he was a regular soldier in mandatory service and now he was ... living in a novel?

It wasn't just him everything went crazy, Ben served time in Cairo and Paris, they were altered but still looked like urban centers, Cairo had a feel of Mystery Men novel while Paris looked like someone copied whole chapters from a Gibson book. The US was different, Ben heard rumors it was hit hard but the he didn't imagined the level of destruction until he got here. Whole teeming urban centered devastated turned into wild land... millions missing or dead... it was a global scale disaster.

Of course it wasn't just the world, Ben was also altered, he could do thinks with his mind. Once he manifested his power they stuck him into a sensaory deprivation tank for a whole week. Other people might have been broken but it opened in Ben unknown abilities, his third eye as Matthew called it.

Now he was here, in what was once Ohio, sharing a truck with an elf taken straight from a Tolkien book and with other not less strange companions.

"We use this to grow food, plow fields as large as nations..." he added with a thick accented English. "There are... were billions of people on Earth and you need to feed them somehow." he explained.
