"Where am I?" Zoey demanded as she struggled to both get lose and a good look around at the lab.

She was laying on a table; her gear was stashed tantalizingly nearby to her.  There were several guards at doorways, and one scientist present.  Along with a variety of surgical equipment that failed to be reassuring in any way whatsoever.

The snake-woman was there, too, and she seemed... upset.  Almost angry.  But she stood there... sat there... whatever it was... with her arms folded.

"You're the organization that mutated me in the first place, aren't you?" Zoey asked as she examined her restraints.

"Subject has regained consciousness faster than anticipated," said the scientist into a small recorder.  "This suggests great powers of recovery.  Proceeding with examination..."

His hand drifted over a wide array of tools and instruments.

Zoey grit her teeth, trying to control her temper as she slowly and stealthily tried to cut her restraints.

Success!  The scientist was distracted-- the snake-woman was saying something in a lower voice, something urgent-- and the guards were focused on that.  Zoey was free!

...But surrounded.  And hurt.

Zoey surged up and grabbed at the scientist.

"You people aren't as smart as you think."

The guards froze.

"GET HER, you idiot!" the scientist shouted to the snake-woman.

"...Now, that'sss an interessting idea," she replied.  "What if she cutsss your throat if I try?  Thisss is down to your failure to resstrain her, you know.  And you haven't given me my payment, now, have you?"

"You know what I did last time I broke out," Zoey hissed at the man. "Maybe your death would finally get it through the bigwigs that they are to leave me alone."

"...but he hasssn't paid for bringing you here," said the snake-lady.  "How'sss this ssound?  I get my payment, now, and I sstop her from killing you.  I think that'sss more than fair.  Cat-girl, thisss isn't persssonal.  I need that payment, and I don't care if you essscape.  That'ss hiss problem."

"I do take it personally, funnily enough. I don't intend to be an experiment again," Zoey said, bring her claws in closer on the man's neck. "I could just kill him when you make a move,"

The snake's eyes narrowed.

"...Maybe," she said, but something in her tone sounded confident.  But:

"But thiss issn't about you, now," she continued.  "What do you ssay, old man?  Payment in advancce, and I ssave your life.  I think she'll kill you.  I would.  You know I would.  Ssso... what will it be?"

The scientist squirmed around, trying to pull free, but couldn't manage to do so.

This wasn't good. Zoey looked over to her equipment to try and judge the time she'd need to get it if the snake made a move.

If she shifted over, just slightly, she'd have the scientist between her and the snake, and be able to dive for her gear and then make for a window.  There were the guards, but they'd probably hesitate with the scientist there.

Zoey did so. The snake wasn't trustworthy, and could easily be paid to come after her again.

Agility check

Zoey waited. She waited to see what the snake and scientist would do.

"My payment!" the Snake-Lady insisted.  "Let her go, or I swear, if the cat doesn't kill you, I will, no matter what!  You've delayed me too long!"

"Why so quiet?" Zoey asked, giving the man a shake. "Answer her!"

"...fine," said the scientist.  "I need my phone."

He gestured to a cell phone on the table.

"Fine," Zoey said, nodding to the snake, indicating she should toss it over. "If you try anything, you may have some problems breathing."

With a pointed grin, the snake-lady did so.  The scientist sent a text, and shortly thereafter, another phone rang.

The snake answered it.

"All right," she said.  "You paid, finally.  I'll get you away from the cat."

And she moved in, slowly... Zoey certainly had a good chance to grab her gear and run, even if the snake charged.

Zoey pushed the man away, went for her gear before leaping out the window.

(OOC: Agility check - Zoey Greer rolled 12 using 1d20+8. I would argue that I could use acrobatics for the roll, which owuld push it to 17.)

Zoey was vaguely aware that her dive looked a little bit more awkward than necessary, but she still managed to somehow grab her gear and get out the window!

From behind her, the scientist was shouting "GET HER!"

And a softer, sibilant voice saying, "Why?"

Zoey quickly scrambled up a wall and left the area as quick as she could.

"This whole day has sucked and I need some money for pizza and beer. Might as well as find some not-so-friendly local drug dealers." she thought as she went.
