Her brother was around, checking the news on his phone.

"Woah," he said.  "All kinds of people got shot last night!"

"This city," Zoey said. "What happened?"

"I dunno," he said.  "Something about some dude and a politician and evil campaign buttons, I think."

"Sounds like more evil scientists," Zoey said. "Are there evil science classes at the local university or something?"

"I think it's, like, a focus when you study engineering or something," her brother suggested.  "So you study radio waves, or black holes, or evil."

"I need some coffee," Zoey said seeing what was in the fridge to eat.

Leftover Chinese was available.  Depending on how hot it was, of course, which wasn't obvious.

Zoey smelled it to see if it was still okay.

It was fine, if maybe a little heavy in spices and soy sauce.

Zoey put it in the microwave as she made some coffee.

Soon hot food and coffee were improving her day.

"So, want to tell me more about it?" her brother asked.

"When I went out again, I spotted a bunch of equipment from one of that organization's labs being loaded into a truck. So, I snuck on top of it and then into their base. It turned out that it wasn't the group that mutated me, it was some other group that was stealing tech from other groups.I got out and hide under a truck and that ended up at the motel. I was interrogating one of the guys from the truck when the place blew up," Zoey said.

"So do you think that, like, they didn't want those guys talking?" her brother said.  "They probably had that bomb set up.  Uh, it was kind of in the news, actually..."

"I'm not surprised," Zoey said. ""But it could be that or it could be some group they stole from paying them back as well. Either way it leaves me with no leads."

"Well, what about, like, detective work?" her brother asked.  "Maybe those guys who got blown up had an employer.  Maybe you can figure out who rented out those hotel rooms, or who owns that place outside the city that you found."

"Well, I'll start by searching out stuff on the net," Zoey said.

Well, it was possible, as it turned out, to determine that TriChi Industries owned the land that the mysterious warehouse that all the technology had been stored in was located.

Zoey looked for other locations they owned.

There were a few, apparently uninteresting office buildings and warehouses.  Of course, "apparently" was significant...

Zoey made note of the warehouses and where they were. The offices two, but she was less sure about those.

It was quickly done.  But where would she go, and when?

Zoey decided to hang out at home until it was dark and then she was checking out the warehouses, starting with the closest.

Eventually, it grew deark...
