House History

There has been three historical events in the House's past.

Glory, Madness, and Glory.

We have had some broad ideas about what they were, but it might be a good idea to specify what happened.

The first Glory was during the Andal Invasion and the first head of the house did some really good things and was given lands and title.

At some later date, there was Madness, perhaps because of mixing blood with the Targaryens. It resulted in our domain becoming more lawless and in a substantial loss of troops.

And most recently, during Robert's Rebellion, the house is back in Glory because of one of the Uncles.

There has been previous discussion about this, but it may be good go into greater detail regarding what happened.

Do you think that uncle saving the life of Jon Arryn in a spectacular way at some moment during the Robert's Rebellion would constitute enough for Glory?

If it was done with conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty, then yes that could be the very thing to give the house its second Glory.

Event 3: Robert’s Rebellion
I concur and it would loosely tie us to our liege. Probably not enough to have a lot of sway but a bit...
Perhaps Jon Arryn was surrounded and our uncle breached that part of the battle with his troops? Could be when attacking a castle or even a bandit outpost.

I suppose this would be the better place to actually talk about the lore and history between our house and the banner house. My apologies.

I get the impression that Silverswift is the name of our house everyone wants, or has it just been a sort of "working title" till we have more of a discussion on the matter?

The name hasn't been decided yet as we're not at that part of the house version yet. Some players seem to have adopted that name as they work on their characters.

Popkin tablet,  autocorrect atrocious.

Ah, I did not realize that choosing a name came from a specific step. My apologies.

That's what I recall, bit I couldn't do bad the specifics. I know it hasn't been decided that it actually is the family name.

Tablet. Bad autocorrect. Sorry.

Autocorrect comes after us all, it's all good.

As far as my character (assuming I go with the knightly uncle) having potentially saved Jon Arryn during the war, I am game for that if everyone else is. Maybe I could take Famous or something for him as well.

Gray,  if you choose to be that uncle you would definitely need Famous. Or out could be a different uncle. IIRC Brown was married to a now deceased uncle, so there are a few around.

Yes, choosing the name is specific step, however in most game it gets decided earlier, for it doesn't affect anything else mechanically.

House History

We seem to have moved past the history of the House, so I'm setting it to:

* Glory: The Founder performed acts of heroism during the Andal Invasion, but everyone tells a different story. Everyone seems to know what he did, but the only thing everyone agrees on is that it was glorious.

* Madness: One Head of House married a Targaryen daughter about a generation before Aegon's Conquest. And the oldest son, and new Head of House, was hit by the family madness. And if Aegon could have two wives, so could he. So he stole a woman of the Hill Tribes, the daughter of a Clan Chief, and made her his second wife. And suddenly everyone hated him. The Church, his first wife's House, his second wife's clan. Everybody. And though some didn't say it, they all wanted his head on a spike. Unfortunately for them, he was a brilliant strategist and despite heavy losses of troops and his lands descending into lawlessness, he still retained control of all of his lands. Until his younger brother sued for peace behind his back and turned his Lord over to the enemy. And they got the head on the spike they desired. And as history is written by the winners, no blemish has ever been placed on the younger brother.

* Glory: A brother of a Head of House saved the life of Jon Arryn showing conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty during Robert's Rebellion where the brother single-handedly slew a number of Targaryen forces who had surrounded his liege and killed the troops that were protecting him.

Which seems to include all the suggestions I could find.

Sounds great to me. We should just work out some names once we have our House name figured out.

I was thinking we get to the House name as soon as we have decided where the House is located.

I feel like a broken record bringing up the house name. I am sorry for that, it's not intentional.

I am not sure if this would be the best thread for this or not, but should we consider some of the NPCs of our House while we are building it?  What is the kids' mother like (assuming she is still alive)? Any other noteworthy family, house members, or retainers?  What about our fair hamlet, should it have name? Any fine folk who might stand out from there? for comparison, a hamlet is only like 100 people or less.

We get to the NPCs in the same step we get to the PCs, so yes we will cover those too.
