Galad is impressively built and stands a shade over six and an half feet tall and strikes an imposing figure on the battlefield when decked out in battle array. His blue eyes and blonde hair denote an Andal ancestry, as is common to many of his brethren among the Vale Knights.
He is competent at court, presenting himself politely, even assertively among the nobility, though he lacks the true refinement of the heirs and lords of great houses. He is literate, and versed in the standard reading of a Vale Nobleman – military histories and the Seven-Pointed Star. He is even a competent baritone singer, and has been known to lend his voice to rousing choruses at feasts and marching songs.
Despite this, Galad is more at home on the battlefield than at court. He wields a great-sword one handed and often fights with a huge tower shield in his other hand. He rides a huge white destrier and has shown some promise in the tournament lists, though he has yet to win a tournament.
Background
Galad is the only son of Ser Eustace Hunter, Grandson to Lord Eon Hunter “Old Lord Hunter”. As his father’s brothers are on bad terms, there was little opportunity for advancement in Longbow Hall, and Ser Eon arranged to have Galad squired out to House Sylvayn.
He earned his knighthood ten years ago, at seventeen, after a brutal and protracted battle with the mountain clans during which he was badly wounded - though he recovered quickly.
-Maeve and Rose-
At 16 he caused a minor scandal at House Sylvayn when Galad sought Lord Sylvayn’s permission to marry – a lowborn and orphaned servant of the house known for her beautiful silver hair. Lord Sylvayn granted permission on the basis that the girl, Maeve, was pregnant, though his father Ser Eustace was most wroth and refused to attend to small ceremony.
Maeve gave birth to a darling child named Rose who had her father’s hair and eyes, and her mother’s petite figure. However, within the month Maeve caught a chill and within two weeks she had died, leaving the infant in the care of a father barely out of adolescence.
House Sylvayn showed great magnanimity with Galad during this time, fostering his infant daughter within the keep while he completed his training and earned his knighthood. Rose now serves as a young handmaid to the ladies of House Sylvayn and is well-loved by smallfolk retainers throughout the keep. A rumour holds that her mother Maeve may have been a bastard of House Sylvayn but this remains unconfirmed.
