Prenumbra - Back to Work

The "back office" becomes apparent as you ghost around the room.  The set of steps in the back you saw early lead up to a closed door.  The door is marked 'private, employees only'.  As you make your way there, you hit the same 'slowness' that you felt outside.  But where that seemed like mud, this feels like webs; all around you, not just pulling at you feet.

[OOC] 9 OV/RV for the barrier.

Prenumbra - Back to Work

... damn... what the hell are they doing here?...

20:45, Today: Penumbra rolled 13 using 2d10 with rolls of 5,8.  Private Party Peeker.

Penumbra's sheer will managed to overcome the counter-force into this area. He had never experienced this before. It was fascinating. But he would have to explore it at a later moment.

Right now, he needed to pay attention.

Edit: AV/EV of 10

Prenumbra - Back to Work

You push through and can view into the office.  You see a man at a large dark wood desk, in a large back leather chair.  The room seems much like the club; candles, old/odd brikabrak, the smell of incense, and a lot of dark tones (crimson, black, silver).  The man stops what he is doing and puts down his pen.  He sits up straight and starts to look around the room.

OOC: Oh great! It's Spike! In Sarah Michelle Gellar's voice: "Spike! What do you want?"

... hmm... can he sense the fact that I am looking in?...

Penumbra pulls his senses out the room. He then proceeds to climb up through the walls and to the office, looking for a place behind the man's desk from where he can observe what he's doing.

Prenumbra - Back to Work

OOC:

He's not actually entering his office. He's using his darkness form while being dispersed (insubstantial) to travel along the walls. He will peek out a bit here and there to get his bearings, so he can end up behind him peeking out a bit from the wall.

If he was to actually enter the office, he would most likely be spotted immediately, something he would not like to happen.

He is trusting that while being "dispersed", since he has no contact with anything, he will be very silent. If that is not the case, let me know. =)

Prenumbra - Back to Work

The man at the desk turns a few pages on his desk over.  He stands up and walks around to the front of his desk.  As he does, you see he has a metal and black leather brace on his right leg; his steps are stiff.  He walks around to the front of his desk and then slowly leans back against it.  Looking around the room, he closes his eyes and takes a deep breath, "I know you are still here.  I can feel you around the office.  Either come in or leave, but I will not tolerate spying."  He picks up a small crimson shot glass.

"I am looking for information, Mr. Thorne. A couple of patrons of yours were found deceased a short while ago. I am following a lead that brings me here.

James and Johanna Wertz.

Do you know of them?"

Henry doesn't give any indication that the "threat" of security is having any impact on him.

He looks you straight in the face, "No.  I have no idea who they are.  And now that I know you're one of Chicago's gnats, I suggest you leave.  You and you're kind are not welcome here and have no authority."

As you are standing there, he presents the crimson shot glass to you and it is pulsing faintly, "This is my alarm that you are here.  They will escort you out when they get here."

He tilts his head, "Who are you?"

OOC: I am not familiar enough with the system. Is there a particular way to tell is someone's possibly lying, like in D20s 'insight' skill?

I don't see anything like that among the skills, except for the possible implication of Charisma.

Perhaps it is just a 'power'? I haven't checked on the powers list yet, but I think I may be able to in a short while.

Well, powers didn't give me any options, but I checked on the last thing I thought might apply and I think you might be able to modify it based on which OV/RV values you use: check on Perception rolls, on page 157.

It might help on the "mood or emotional" options, like someone trying to stay calm and collected while lying to another person.

Just an idea. =)

Re: Prenumbra - Back to Work

The Game Master:
He tilts his head, "Who are you?"

"An interested third party."

Looking at the glass in his hand, he adds,

"That's a mighty fine toy you have there. It does seem to work well at ... glowing... real nice."

Henry takes a few steps around the office.

"I do apologize for intruding like this. Perhaps it was somewhat ... disrespectful. But if you were to suspect my visit, you might have behaved differently. Either way, we are now making introductions. You can call me Penumbra."

As he walks around, he takes a good look at everything. His detective eye is looking for anything out of the ordinary.

OOC: Perception or Detective roll for checking the office out?

Re: Prenumbra - Back to Work

As you are walking around the office, one of the bouncers walks into the office and closes the door behind him.  He is built huge and you can see the telling bump of a gun under his jacked.  As he does, Damian sets down the shot glass.  "The glass did what it was supposed to do.  All of my staff now knows something is up and I don't think you will like the results if you test them."

They both watch you as you walk around the room.  "Do not presume that you have free range of my office.  You are here un-invited and illegally here as this is a non-public area and you are now being notified of trespassing.  I can call the police on you and maybe signal for one of the other happy vigilantes in the town to escort you out."

[OOC]  You suddenly note, upon closer inspection, there is a lot of morbid stuff in the office; a stuffed crow, a dry bar with old red glasses and large decanters (the red crystal makes the contents look like blood), a ventriloquist dummy, urns, a few Gothic prints, a ton of candles in different colors, and a cigarette ashtray in the shape of a old lantern.  The more modern technology in the room is out of place (newer is relative, technology from the 80's is still technology).

Detective - 9 RV/OV

[OOC]  OK...you go ahead and roll it.  I'll only keep certain rolls secret (the last one the rules even said to).

As an add on, you see a old school safe out in the open; the top has candles on it.  I forgot to add that to the things you see.

OOC: Ok. I only mentioned the HP in case we started a bidding auction.

I can see why the safe might have been easy to miss with all that black around it.

21:43, Today: Penumbra rolled 15 using 2d10 with rolls of 5,10.

Very nice roll. I might be barking up the wrong tree here, but it is a nice roll. =)

Re: Prenumbra - Back to Work

[OOC]The safe was my miss; I should have mentioned it with the other items.

There is no counter bidding.  Your investigation is focusing on the room and not the people.  Correct me if I am wrong....

1) In your current physical state, you didn't realize it at first, but the room is very dark for somebody to be doing paperwork/reading.
2) There is a coat of arms hanging on the back wall; dark wood with a dragon on the shield.  There are two wavy knives mounted/thrust behind the shield.  There are scratches going along the blade path.
3) There is a painting on the wall of a Victorian man.  The features, if not hair, are much like Damian's.  There is not a name plaque on the frame.
4) There is a antique mirror on the wall, and you do see Damian's reflection.
5) There is an antique revolver on a stand, on top of a book case.  There are six bullets up-right on the bottom of the stand.  This would not have been seen from the front door.
6) The books on the shelves (of which there are about 15) are old, do not generally have lettering on the spines, and the ones that do are in foreign languages.  These are not paperbacks.
7) The book case also holds what look to be old cigar cases; dark wood, double or triple the height of a normal box, with locks.

[IC]
Both of them follow you around the room with their eyes.  Their anger is easily seen.  "I hope you are done and ready to go.  Your presence is not wanted.  I assure you, there is nothing illegal here...not that you represent law and order anyway."

Re: Prenumbra - Back to Work

"Yes. You are correct. I apologize. This has been ill-conceived of me, and I must hold myself responsible for the consequences. You have a wonderful office, with...", he looks at the small shot glass in Damien's hand, "... remarkable devices."

He bows formally to Damien, and turns towards the office door, where the security guard came through.

"I am grateful for your patience, and for your generosity. As a return favor, I would like to let you know that there is a small but thriving trade in illicit chemicals on your dance floor, cleverly kept away from your staff's eyes. Now, I am not one to judge in any way, to each their own, but, personally, I would not want to see any harm to any of your patrons. They seem like a nice crowd."

Watching for a moment to see Damien's reaction, Penumbra then teleports out of the office and back to the alley. From there, he will teleport away, via several long-range jumps, back to his apartment.

He'll begin a quiet investigation into Damien Thorne's business and person the next day, to see if there is anything he can learn about him or his establishment.

... hmm... I believe this warrants a second visit, at a more opportune time ...

Damian stiffens as you talk, but his looke of anger does not change.  The bouncer goes to move from in front of the door, and then you disappear.

"DAMN IT.  Check the doors, the video cameras and with the others.  Get what you can on him and what he did while here..I doubt if it will be much.  Then we will pump up the defenses.  Grrrrr...They are like roaches. "

OOC: Funny! Looks like Damian has "other" visitors. Too bad Henry didn't hear any of that.

We can move on to the next day, if you like. Unless something else happens, he'll be waiting for the forensic reports, and any other details the detectives report.
