Prenumbra - The Investigation Continues
"I suppose that's possible, but the clean nature of the hit is far too sophisticated to just be a drug turf war. I'd think something like that would be expensive. You don't get such an operation without paying.. well... not that I've ever paid for one... but I am thinking 'you get what you pay for'."
Henry takes a moment to think.
"If it was only a drug hit, and it was expensive, then it would have had to be a huge quantity, lots of money. But if that is so, then we should be getting news of more activity. Maybe more people involved, more hits on distributors, dealers, suppliers. But who bothers with small time dealers?
While drugs might be the simplest answer, somehow I think this has more in it than meets the eye. I want to take a look at the interviews and the electronics brought in. You know, the usual: who they talked to, who they keep on speed dial, things like that. To be hit in their home means whoever was after them went out of their way to find them. I agree: it wasn't a murder at a deal, or some sort of sale gone wrong.
But you know, it doesn't actually help to speculate too much, or we begin to color our conclusions and might begin to miss clues we may normally follow. Let's spend some time on the gathered evidence, and follow any leads. We may learn something new."
Henry takes a moment to look at the 'old man'. His questions were not unusual for an experienced officer, but his sudden change of attitude towards him from the last time they spoke felt a bit contrived.
Was the old man trying to pump him for information? Or was he really concerned and taking the time to bounce ideas off of him?
